7 ccleaner doesn't work and is making trouble in my firefox browser

the 7th one is a worse time {Censored} you have done, it only works online, you don’t download the whole program but only the startup program to install, and afterwards if it can’t get hold of their server it doesn’t work, who is the crazy lunatic who came up with that insane idea, it deletes links in my bookmarks line i.e. it deletes the content in the link so it doesn’t work and I now can’t remove the empty link, it has done that with several, for a few days all access to facebook was gone so I had to log in again from scratch, several others like the link to bing are gone, the link to youtube is gone, my access to my webmail is gone, all my cokkies that I save as access are gone, my backup that the browser makes every day of my links in the bookmarks menu is gone so you can’t go back and create what the insane program has deleted

Hi, moderator here, while i understand the anger and feel some of it myself, we run a clean ship here on this forum, I’ve edited out a swear word from your post, with millions of other words and phrases I’m sure you can come up with a more family friendly one.

no because I’m really crazy about this kind of junk, on top of running one of the old ones that worked, then it automatically updating it to the 7 junk

now I can spend hours finding them again, so far I have 16 links that are empty, they weren’t yesterday and I have to find 2 folders again it has to delete everything in which Microsoft stops junk in, good I have written down all my different passwords for various sites, I now have to find them again because they were in my cookies

I don’t know if you’ve manged to fix this but I had the same happen to me last night. There’s a youtube video that explains how to fix this. Quick and easy to do.. basically you have to to to C:/User/appdata/roaming/mozilla/ the ‘places.sq’ file rename it with the .old extension (FF closed) than open FF it will create a new ‘places.sq’ file. Close FF, delete the new file and remove the .old extension from the old ‘places.sq’ file. The video is “How I fixed Firefox the bookmarks and history system will not function… I am not sure I will renew my subscription to CC after this debacle since I am now afraid to use the cleaner.

now I use one of the old ones where you first download the whole program and then install it, I have blocked automatic updates, good thing I saved some of the old versions that worked

C:/User/appdata/roaming/mozilla/ the ‘places.sq’ does not exist on my pc, and that 7 s… has removed all old bookmarks in bookmarkbackups under profiles

Yes, that’s what it did to mine and I fixed it by following the Youtube instructions. Were you able to find the video? I can’t post a link to it but I gave the title. Maybe his instructions are better to understand than mine. Did you follow it all the way into the files? Close Firefox open file system folder in …..C:/User/appdate/roaming/mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/i………release-1…/places.sqlite rename this one to places.sqlite.old Leave the file folder open and reopen Firefox. it will make a new places.sqlite Close Firefox and Delete the new places.sqlite rename the sqlite.old back to it’s original name by deleting .old extension you added. Open Firefox and your profile and Bookmarks should be restored. Good luck.

found that video but it’s not quite like mine, running win 10 pro, but found under firefox - profiles a folder called numbers and letters . default- release- more numbers and more files places.sqlite with after .corrupt and .corrupt-shm and .corrupt-wal, they were tried removed, had no effect after ff restart, copied places.sqlite to another drive just to be safe, and gave it a new .old last name in c-….default-release, then ff makes a new one itself after starting ff, then the links that were empty were removed by ff.
so many thanks for the help

Glad you got it to work. I think it basically comes down to the places.sqlite folder getting somehow corrupted by CCleaner. Not sure how I feel about using CCleaner going forward after this. I looked at the settings for the browser cleaning and nothing obvious that would cause this.

This problem was reported during the beta version. How could it go to production?
Instead of running a clean ship, probably escalate the problem to the dev.

Does the moderator’s job is only to cleanup swear words, or actually help something?
If you are not helping do not moderate then, rather give this responsibility to IA.

yes as far as moderation goes, this and spam are our VOLUNTEER duties. In fact, we are just as upset over ccleaner 7 as you are. We also provide information that we know, as users of the product. We are not employed by Piriform/CCleaner except as the most basic definition of employed. They provided us with moderation badges but we are not company workers just average joes/jane users of ccleaner.
