3 days and counting, avira in big server trouble.

Thanks. Got it. 3.5 minutes. :D

Well done, noknojon and login123! :D

Part of the update issue I suppose is people constantly trying to manually invoke the updates. If they'd instead let the antivirus auto-update itself once or however many times per day it performs an auto-update that would reduce requests to the server. Just a thought.

A fine point there. Avira's got a plan for things. No doubt.

Manual updates 28.6 MB that are no problem to download.

Auto updates 7.2 MB on this large release that are impossible to download.

Sounds like they should put the manual server on the job. ;)

No problem here from a long time Avira free AV fan.

In Avira's forums they write, that the servers are on German time. So updating late in the evening or in the middle of the night (still German time) should help the update. Time zones: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Yep. 02 October 09 downloaded the update manually. Later same day, went about updating a couple of other computers which were set to auto-update, and behold, they were already up to date.

Yes, it seems to be over now...

Looks like your not the only one:

http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=...amp;boardID=135

My current VDF is V7.01.06.114, 15/10/2009 (US date would be 10/15/2009)

of course not....plus manual update is corrupted....

Early in the morning I usually can overcome any server overload. It's 6am here and I cannot update.

I've aborted the update. Lots of unhappy people at your link Firery.

Yes I know it is free and hugely popular, but folk are starting to switch to another av because of this constant issue.

Manual update worked for me just a few minutes ago. :)

Tried again... still no joy. :(

Will try again later :)

Reports on the avira forum show it is a 5mb update this time that is causing the issue.

Also it seems Avira is using IVP6 addresses for the update which most xp users don't have.

See a post about that here

If you use a download manager and pause the download, the file can become corrupted since it's updated often.

It has been reported that problems installing happen without a download manager.

You can check here for the latest VDF Update Version with a link for download and QA Realtime Status.

Look in the lower right hand corner of the page. :)

you know....soemthing...hazelnuti read in their forum about IVP6 addresses but they refuse to admit it..

now you rad is a 5mb update...when i wento download the VDF...it was 29MB.... so they don't even post the date for it..they posted as a whole package.

they fixed the zip file this early morning...Jamin4you i can read many times their definitions,,but in download page the thing is different.

just updated to 7.01.06.116 using normal update.

A few errors in the log but ended up dl'ing fine
