100 hours to defrag a 2tb hard disk that is 90% "free" ?

I have a new 2tb HDD of which 180gb is used and 1.6tb is showing as free.

Defragger Analysis initially showed the HDD as 25% fragmented.

After 5 hours, the Defragger status has crept up from 0% to 5%. Presumably this means that the defragmentation process is now 5% complete. If progress continues at this rate, Defragger will take 100 hours to finish.

So I stopped Defragger in normal mode and have restarted it in "Quick" mode to see if it is any faster. Maybe then I can go back and restart Defragger as normal i.e. not in Quick mode.

Is this normal ?

I tried Windows Vista defrag last week and it was even slower - so I am trying Piriform.

Defraggler indicates that a specific folder on my PC, relating to a single application (car manuals & car parts catalogues)exceeds 10gb and that the folder and its sub folders are very heavily fragmented.

I will exclude this rarely used folder/files from the defrag process which may speed up the overall defrag process considerably.

Lets us know how it goes.

Is the hard drive light staying on steadily, or is it going out regularly? Is if off more than on? I am curious to find out if you are having the same issue that I am.
