  1. From the looks of it, looks like its doing a chkdsk on the drive (ie. checking it for drive errors)
  2. on my computer, opera uses it...doesn't seem to affect much if i delete it, but it remakes itself so...
  3. it seems to stop instantly for me.... unless I'm processing a large file. But then, windows disk defragmenter also has a delay before stopping...

  7. if you aren't afraid to go through an initial period of answering prompts etc, in exchange for better protection, go for comodo. if you want it to just work out of the box, go for online armor. its also a powerful free firewall.
  8. I use registry cleaners, mostly after a reinstall because I delete files according to Bold Fortune's Slimming Down Windows Guide so lots of remnants exist and registry cleaning can fix a lot of problems while shrinking the registry size so the computer boots and runs faster. In my case, speed boosts are generous. I avoid very aggressive registry cleaners after the initial registry clean, sticking with CCleaner, regclean, and glarysoft registry repair. With defragmenters, I don't notice that big of a difference before and after running defragmenters, with the exception of a few apps running
  9. I agree to this as well. It would help me a LOT. As for the safety issue: if someone is using the commandline to run the registry cleaner in CCleaner, would it be safe to assume that person knows the risks of the registry cleaner? I'd think so, but... Please add the command line. And of course, add an option to make it silent so it can be incorporated into, for example, maintenance batch files.
  10. CCleaner alternative: Disk Cleaner (http://www.diskcleaner.nl/) It hasn't been updated in a while, but it is a nice supplement to CCleaner. It is also lightning fast and pretty comprehensive. Free and open source. Hijackthis alternative: Runscanner (http://www.runscanner.net/) Pretty much hijackthis+autoruns. Free and closed source. Antimalware: Winpooch (outdated, but still light and fast HIPS) http://www.winpooch.com/ Free and open source. Can integrate ClamAV. Maybe try AbiWord? (http://www.abisource.com) Also, I love this app: Launchy (http://www.launchy.net/) And of co
  11. Sumatra PDF Viewer: http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/ It's main advantages include its portability, small file size, little bloat, quick startup, and faster rendering. But what really bugs me is how it doesn't remember custom window sizes and it prints weird. ?
  12. Actually, I have a PII as well, running now I thought the same, except IE didn't run instantly. It just waited in the beginning a little and then showed content in a second. But then opera 9.5 alpha/beta came out. Then opera felt faster than IE by FAR.?
  13. As the title says, every once in a while after I defrag, Defraggler freezes the entire system. 14. Wouldn't the Windows Desktop Search be similar to Launchy, except it needs plugins to do what Launchy can do already? *shrug*
