    ikernel.exe

I am trying to uninstall a Sony application called ImageStation. It's no longer supported by Sony and I never used it anyway. But I get "Error installing ikernel.exe(0x10000) when I try to uninstall it. I get this error if I use the control panel or the uninstaller in CCleaner. A forum search on ikernel did not yield any results. A google search wasn't any help either as most of the hits were for other cleaners. Anyone know how to fix this?
  2. I bought a Linksys model WRT54GS router a couple of months ago and am pleased with it so far. Had a little trouble on the installation but the telephone support was very good and they talked me through it. The problem was most probably me, as I had never installed a wireless network before. I bought it mainly to connect my Wii game console to the internet and it required a G type router. I plan to add to the network eventually. Even though my present printers and scanner are working fine, much to my wife's dismay, I am already checking out wireless models to eliminate the cables.
  3. CeeCee, Thanks for the feedback. For now I will just de-select any issues with the security software. I'll check it again with a new CCleaner version.
  4. I ran into a problem with the Registry Cleaner and AT&T Internet Security Suite. Seems to be a false issue report. I ran the registry function and got the following issue: Problem Data Registry Key Obsolete Software Key Antivirus HKLM\Software\Antivirus I backed up the entry and had CCleaner fix the issue. The next time I booted my system, the antivirus part of the AT&T Security Suite did not start. I merged the backup file, rebooted and all was OK. The backup file contained: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Antivirus] @="" I am using windows XP Home SP2 and CCleaner ver 2.03.532 Is this a problem with CCleaner or the AT&T software. BTW, CCleaner is a great program. Kudos to the developers.
  5. Tony, Your instructions worked perfectly. The right click now shows the merge option. Many thanks for the help. larry
  6. Tony, Sorry, I forgot to mention it but I did try the double right click but I get the same results as a single right click. A single or double left click brings the file up in notepad. All the properties seem to identify it as a 'register entries' file. I have not tried the import function in reg editor since I am only checking out the merge procedure. To be candid, my knees get a little weak when I think of messing around with the reg editor.
  7. Hi from Larry 39 I'm not sure if this should be tacked on to this trread or not but since it is on the same topic.... I am also having a problem with the merge function. When I right click on the registry backup file, there is no merge option even though the file type is .reg. The Properties tab shows it to be registry entries and that it opens with note pad. When I click on change to select something other than notepad, I don.t see anything in the pick list that seems appropriate. To What program should I change the opens with. I am using windows xp with all updates and the latest version of CCleaner. The registry backup file is located in 'my documents' folder and the latest one is named cc_20071116_1003.reg I have never had to merge one yet but I was checking out the restore procedure when I found there was no merge option on the right click. Any help is appreciated since I am reluctant to use CCleaner's registry function until I know I can restore. Thanks, Larry39
  8. I realize that the ultimate decision to delete a startup file entry lies with the user but if CCleaner could give a brief description of the function of each file. it would really help less knowledgeble users like myself. Some filenames are easy, some are cryptic. An internet search of these filenames sometimes give conflicting reports. For example, CCleaner listed cfmon.exe in my startup applications. Some websites say this is bad, others say its ok if its in the sytem directory. Since CCleaner has proven to be reliable, I would put more faith in its description if the program provided it. I would be interested in other opinions or suggestions on what is safe to delete or keep in the startup files.
