  1. Does anyone know know about e-mail encryption? Is it something we should have on our computers? Is it easy to use? Are there any free downloads? Thanks
  2. I have constantly been receiving e-mails with the title "No Subject". There is no message in the body of the e-mail and it's size is 28 KB. I also have marked them as spam but they continue to be received. Any idea what they are and who they are from? Thanks
  3. OK . . . it seems AVG is going by the way side and people are switching to either Avast or AntiVir. Questions: Pro and con for both . . . User friendly . . . Most secure . . . Less resources . . . and Which do you use. Thanks
  4. Does Avast scan e-mails also?
  5. I just ran Secunia and it found insecure versions of: Adobe Acrobat Flash Player 9.x Macromedia Flayer Player 7.x Sun Java JRE 1.6.x/6.x Does Secunia delete them? Is there a way I can delete them
  6. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Since downloading the latest version my delete time has drastically increased at start up. I've had no problems with past version with the time needed to analyze & delete. Now with the latest version it takes forever. I have always had secure delete with 7 passes and the time to analyze & delete was very quick. Not sure why this has happened. I haven't changed any settings since getting CC.
  7. Would you then recommend dumping SE Free and using the 2007 version? Does that update without doing it manually?
  8. I have SE Free and cannot get update to work. I get a message saying Ad Aware has not been updated for 31 days. I go to up date and I get an error message saying I cannot connect. What's up with that?
  9. It's not my at-home computer, but the one at work. We are a state agency which probably bought the lowest bid computers. And yes, Dell is a dud, dude! My home computer is a custom one and has served me well for quite a while, especially with using Mozilla, Thunderbird, all the anti-spyware and virus recommendations given here by many knowledgeable people. My motherboard was replaced today due to "bloated capacitors", but the computer is still running slow. Now what?
  10. I just had tech support at my office check out my CPU. He said I have some "bloated capacitators" which could cause my system to crash and may be the reason for the slowness. He is checking into Dell for any recall or may have to order new parts. Does this sound like it could be the reason for the slowness? Thanks
  11. How do I go about getting a screenshot of my task manager? I did open it up but there is very little running on it. Specs on CPU: Windows XP Pro Service pack 2 Pentium 4 CPU, 3 GHz 2.99 GHz 504MB of ram
  12. My computer has been operating very slowly. I've done all the virus/spyware scans, hijackthis, tweaking, etc. and no problems were found. My PC, however may be the culprit. I've noticed a loud "whirring" sound from the PC occasionally, almost like a jet taking off. I don't think that's a good thing. Could my PC be the problem for slow performance and not some virus/spyware? Thanks
  13. Wouldn't McAfee SiteAdvisor help with this?

    Java Update

XP There is a box with a check in it which states "check for updates automatically." Message in Update: On the 22 of each month Java Update will check for updates. An icon will appear in the system tray if an update is available. Move the cursor over the icon to see if an update is available. You will be notified before the update is down-loaded. I checked the link. I don't think I really need Java for what it is telling me, however I'm not sure if at some point I will need it. Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful. Thanks

    Java Update

Not being a computer expert I'm not sure about a JAVA update that automatically runs on my computer. Just what does/is Java and should I update? Thanks
  17. Is there any software (free) available that can hide your IP address? And are they safe to use, especially at work?
  18. I have Spybot & AVG Anti Spyware. Both have resident shield settings Spybot: Resident SD Helper & Resident Tea Timer AVG Resident Shield Should they have their resident shields active or just one of them? Or do I really need any of them both running at all?
  19. If I use another firewall do I have to disable the Windows Firewall? In addition, what's the easiest firewall to use for non-computer savvy folks?
  20. I have everything checked for Settings . . . On Advanced I have only Show Prompt to Backup Registry checked. Never had any problems with CC cleaning tracks before with dial up but since switching to DSL it's not cleaning. I have to do it manually.
  21. I finally was able to switch to DSL and love the speed. However, CC doesn't seem to be cleaning my internet use. I can do it manually, though. Any ideas?
  22. I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender, AVG Anti-Spyware, & Spyware Blaster. I haven't gotten any spyware so I'm assuming all these are doing their job . . . however . . . How much is "too much"?
  23. I'm using a new computer and CCleaner is not deleting: Recycle Bin Temp Internet Files History XP SP2 Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 502 MB Ram I can manually clean the history but CC is not doing it when shutting down. What's Up? Thanks TK
  24. Is there any free software that will open EPS files? I have Windows 98 and dial up! Thanks
