  1. Is there a free alternative to Microsoft Office XP Publisher that is also compatable with it? PS: If I download Microsoft Version of Publisher that has a product key number on it that is not authorized to me, will I get caught?

    Free PDF Maker

Any suggestions for an easy to use free PDF maker? Foxit? Cute? PDFCreater? Others?
  4. Revo-Uninstaller? I checked out it's web site . . . looks interesting. Anybody have anything on this?
  5. The ask.com toolbar was not listed in my add/remove programs. Foxit Reader Toolbar was but it didn't indicate ask.com was in it until I deleted Foxit Reader Toolbar. I did finally realize Foxit reader is not part of Firefox. However, it is deceptive since "Fox" is in it's name . . . but again it's up to the operator to be more careful . . . which I was not at that time. Normally I am but I missed the ask.com check box because I was going to fast when downloading.
  6. I went back and did a "dry" install of Fox It Reader and there was the box checked with ask.com as default search engine. I apparently went to fast when I originally down -loaded and missed the checked box. Me bad!
  7. Since I'm not as knowledgable as you & others here regarding computers, how do I block Ask.com as you did? Thanks
  8. I guess I need to be a little more careful w/downloads. I usually am. Maybe I missed it during download but I can't remember seeing it listed when I downloaded.
  9. For some time now I've been trying to get rid of ask.com as my default search engine. Prior to that it was google.com. I tried all the fixes per Firefox forum and suggestions from the net. It would go away but every time I turned on the computer and put in a search title ask.com came up. I finally decided to remove some downloads and lo-and-behold when I removed Fox It Toolbar ask.com was hidden in it! Ask.com has not returned since. Is Mozilla part of this or did something else take place?
  10. What is the best version of Firefox to use? The one with the least problems, bugs, etc. Thanks
  11. Lately (after Windows update?) more times than not when I log onto my home page (MSN) it causes my computer to freeze up. I can't manually shut off the computer, I have to shut off the power unit then restart. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks
  12. Questions: Has anyone down loaded this . . . What is the benefit of having this on your system . . . Can a "non-computer" person use this easily without messy up the computer? Thanks

I downloaded the blocker but still keep getting the IE8 download update. Apparently I'm missing one of those server packs. How can I tell which one I need? I'm using XP.

I uninstalled IE8 and now have my "old" IE back. Things seem to be working quickly and efficiently. Thanks one and all.

    problem with IE8

I down loaded as your suggested. Do I now have to do anything else to keep IE8 from downloading?

    problem with IE8

This may be a stupid question: but how do you "uninstall" IE8? The normal way of add/remove programs?
  17. I downloaded IE8 and ever since the media player is hanging up after viewing a video. I have to click the "X" a number of times to get it to close and still get a message about sending a report to Microsoft. Any ideas on this?
  18. Hazelnut: Story of my life . . . a little behind the times . . . that's why I check in here to get caught up.
  19. Apparently MSN has a new search engine called "Bing" Sorta looked at it but didn't like the "look" of it. Bing? Sounds like a shortened version of "Ba-Da-Bing"
  20. My old "profile" stills has the Run CCleaner at Start Up box checked and stays checked. My new "profile" doesn't stay checked. Very confusing!
  21. A friend made a new profile for me due to some other issues which have now been resolved. However, since then the check mark does not to stay in the Run Cleaner at Start Up box and I have to manually run the CCleaner. Other than that there's been no changes.
  22. I've clicked the "Run Cleaner Box at Start Up" . . . but it won't stay clicked. I want CCleaner to clean my computer at start up. What to do?
  23. I upgraded to FF3 and it worked! And I got rid of the "awesome bar" In addition I was having a problem with ask.com showing up. It used to be google. I figured out how to get rid of that annoyance! I guess you need to stay on your toes at all times and be aware of what's going on with your computer! Thanks for the help
  24. I always check in every now and then and see what's the latest on security/spyware/software and whenever I have a question and/or issue with my computer this is the place to come to. Excellent advice and help from the "pros" who are always polite and understanding with us novices. I'll let everyone know how my download of FF3 went and any issues. Thanks every one!
