I have to add that the issue only occurs when running ccleaner as a normal user.
Wen you are running ccleaner as an administrator the issue doesn´t occur.

Hello,
when I click on "check for update" in the ccleaner main window the main window closes.
Observed on WIndows 10, Build 19045.2311
Best regards

If you open CCleaner and click on 'Check for Updates' you should see this:
Click on 'Update Now' and it will update itself. (at no cost).
I think MrGiuis means somethink different. I can observe this behaviour as well.
When you klick on "search for update" for the first time everything is Ok, but when you click on search for update again only two or three seconds later
you get the message saying that ccleaner could not be updated and that you have to buy or register again. This bug exists since several versions of ccleaner. The bug doesn´t occur when you wait - let´s say - about 10 seconds after the first search.

Now version 5.76 is out, and these two annoying issues seem to be solved.

It´s Windows Version 10 20H2 Build 19042.685.
The restricted account I´m talking about is a normal user account without administrative privileges.
And even with the administrator account the .ini file is saved in the folder where ccleaner is installed,
but I still get both error messages Zslotkantor is talking about.

However further testing has shown that the 'save to .ini' setting is in fact being changed and saved when you tick or untick it.
No. It´s still not working at all when running under a restricted account.

Issue is still present in Version 5.75.0.8238

Thanks for this information. Since my Windows XP installation is running in a virtual machine without internet access I downloaded the intaller on a Windows 10 system
from here :https://www.ccleaner.com/de-de/ccleaner/download/standard
Will this bug be fixed in a later version, or do I have to use the slim version on WIndows XP from now on ?

I can confirm this bug. And the bug is still present in version 5.62
The Slim version is working without any problems on Win XP.
CCleaner 6.06 : Check for update not working any more

Hi Nukecad,
now I uninstalled ccleaner and installed it again as the admin user, ran ccleaner as admin user, but the issue for the normal user persists. Unfortunately.
Everything else besides "Check for update" seems to be working fine.
