  1. You're right hazelnut, the FW is not mentioned in the Spanish website.

Anyway, it's no big deal. I can live without this firewall. I was just a bit surprised by webroot's answer to my question, telling me to subscribe to spysweeper in order to get the firewall :o

    Thanks everybody.

  2. That's the very same link I tried to download from, login123. I fill in my personal details and click "submit", but I keep getting an error message (I've tried this on several computers: my home computer, my workplace, a friend's computer...) and I keep getting the same message. So I wrote to webroot for support and they told me I cannot install it unless I'm a subscriber of spysweeper with AV. That's what they told me. I don't know more.

Maybe this firewall is not available in my country (Spain).

  3. Today Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Premium keeps flagging CCleaner\uninst.exe as Trojan Downloader Zlob AADO.5. My question is: why today and not before? I've been using both Avira and CCleaner for some time, never got this warning till now.

  4. Back home.

I read all your links and tried what they suggested, and windows restore still didn't work. In the end, considering that my computer is new and there are not many things accumulated yet, I decided to make a clean re-install. Now everything is working again, but I've grown terribly suspicious of Vista if system restore breaks down so easily. I never had a problem with system restore in XP. Maybe you can recommend some good software that I can use instead of system restore. I used Paragon drive Backup in my old computer, but I never had the need to resort to it, windows XP system restore always did the trick.

    Thanks.

  5. Hello.

I've recently bought an AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor with 232 GB of hard-drive capacity and 187 GB of free space (whatever that means). I've just discovered that system restore doesn't seem to work in my Vista Home Premium edition. A couple of weeks ago I was able to restore my computer without problems but yesterday a program I was trialing didn't uninstall properly so I resorted to system restore again. To my surprise, I couldn't get past the "Please wait while your windows files and settings are being restored. System restore is initializing" screen. This screen:

After waiting for a couple of hours, I reset my computer and tried to restore from safe mode with the same results. I disabled my antivirus protection (I use McAfee virus scan plus) and chose another restoration point but same results again. I've tried different restoration points, none of them seem to work.

Does anybody know how to solve this? System restore is a very useful feature, I wouldn't like to do without it.

(Please, don't be too technical in your explanations, I don't know much about computers)

  6. Hello.

My brand-new Vista-Home-premium computer came with a pre-installed one-month trial version of Kaspersky. I deleted Kaspersky, used CCleaner to clean the registry and then installed McAfee. Now the security center tells me that both Kaspersky and McAfee are protecting my computer and warns me of possible conflicts. I've read that the solution to this problem in XP is stopping WMI and then delete the repository folder in C:\Windows\system32\wbem. I tried the same in Vista but it doesn't work. It tells me that the repository folder can't be deleted because another program opened it. Any solution to this?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Thanks

    But why is it free?????????

It's not the full commercial version despite what computeractive says. It's a limited, "special edition" so if you want the full features you have to pay. Some months ago I downloaded Paragon Drive BackUp 8 and it was also a "special edition". It didn't have the incremental backup option, for example. Anyway, I'm not complaining. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, you know.

  8. For 2 days now, when on the internet every so often I get a full page pop-up with the CA homepage telling me this.

I am now getting fed up with this as I do find this kind of notification intrusive.

Not only this, but the icon in the system tray continuously shows a yellow exclamation mark, which is not only annoying but also misleading, because it makes you think that AV is not updated or real-time protection is off or any such problem.

  9. The only thing I couldn't see was whether to install it over the top of the existing version. Anyone know?

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago. I was told by CA to uninstall the old version first.

By the way, the old version worked flawlessly in my computer, but scanning with the new version stalls forever at a particular file, namely: C:\Program Files\Microsoft AutoRoute\Data\Eurarts.its. I've solved the problem by adding this file to the ignore list, but I'm not very happy with this solution. New versions are expected to improve things, not make them worse.

  10. Hi:

I downloaded a free version of Paragon Exact Image 7 from computeractive. I regularly backup my data (files and photos and such), but I've never backed up my entire hard disk. I've read that this is important to prevent reinstallation of the OS in case of disaster. The help file in Paragon says that the easiest way to do this is to create a separate partition called the "backup capsule". It also says that once you create the partition "it will not be possible to undo the changes".

I don't know much about computers, so I don't know if creating such a partition will slow down my computer or prevent me from installing new software or something of the kind. The total size of my hard disk is 74,53 GB, with 33,23 GB of used space and 41,29 GB of free space. The estimated size of my hard drive image would be 23,27 GB using the best level of compression.

So, what do you think? Is it safe to create a backup capsule? Or is it better to backup on CDs/DVDs? Any piece of advice will be welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. I think it depends on what the virus is. Some can be removed while windows is running some cant(which would be the reason for the reboot)

    Thank you, rridgely.

My last reboot was due to the bitverify virus. Is it necessary to reboot for that one? I used Trend Micro's PC-Cillin suite before eTrust. Pc-Cillin didn't have to reboot to get rid of that virus.

  12. Are you frequently getting viruses? Maybe you should post a hijack this log.

(I have never had etrust tell me to reboot to remove a virus it finds. It just brings up a pop up that says what was cleaned.)

No, I don't usually get viruses, thank God. And my computer seems to be working fine, no problems. I regularly scan online with Panda and Housecall and BitDefender and everything comes clean. But once in a while I've stumbled against malicious websites (who hasn't?) and then eTrust pops up telling me to reboot to remove all viruses detected. This is what I find surprising. My previous antivirus used to quarantine all malware, whereas eTrust tells me to reboot. Is this normal behaviour in an antivirus?

  13. Hello:

I'm using CA's eTrust EZ Antivirus. Every time its real-time protection detects a virus, it tells me to reboot immediately. My previous AV didn't do that: it simply quarantined the virus.

So much rebooting can be a nuisance. Do I really have to do it? Am I in danger if I don't reboot immediately as instructed?

    Thank you.
