I don't see why they can't send an acknowledgement that your request has been received and will be actioned

This is in place for customer support inquiries received email to support@ccleaner.com or via the customer support form - if sent as a customer support enquiry.  But ...

Have sent a couple of emails via the contact form

Safest to email support@ccleaner.com directly.  We have had cases of customers never getting their automatic response or their personalised followup due to either mistyping their email address in the form or spamfiltering our response.  I was able to find your ticket - just in case, the response from us was sent back to three different email addresses that you had previously provided.

But in answer to your question raised, as per my note here from July 9th, the time credited seems to have been applied some weeks ago.  You should be able to confirm your correct expiry dates at https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup (using the email address you used to purchase with)

So shouldn't you really be shouting at mozilla for changing things in the first place?

On the other hand it is up to CCleaner devs to check these things.

Well it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B.  Betas are quite the moving target, and we don't always get responses from the developers of the software that we are cleaning in a timely fashion to action appropriately on a monthly release cycle.

As mentioned previously, we're (still) looking at a rearchitecture of the way cleaning rules are delivered so that they can be served up a bit like Antivirus pattern files.  That way we can respond much faster to any changes, and we don't have to have the massive overhead of a complete rebuild and release every time a rule needs to be updated ... at least for people who aren't blocking CCleaner ;)

  3. All looks fine from here (Windows 10 1909 release on Facebook with Anti-phishing and CCleaner Browser's AdBlock enabled - seeing Facebook as I would normally expect).  Could you describe in greater detail what is happening?  Which version of Windows 10 you are using?  Are you using any additional Chromium extensions into CCleaner Browser?  What do you see when on https://www.facebook.com? Which settings do you have enabled in the Security and Privacy centre of CCleaner Browser:

    I resent that somewhat.

Was meant as a reflection of your debugging diligence, sir 🙂

I didn't 'find a way to break it' - it was broken at the server end.

Indeed, that remains our working hypothesis - one time brief server glitch.

    This would be handy.

    But also nope 😛

For paid users it will show their expiry status (so we don't need to pop-up to tell them about it all the time) and a 1-2 click path for expired to easily get back to the free version (vs the current uninstall/reinstall requirement) so they can stop being pestered that they have expired.

This is why Windows Defender has blocked CCleaner as PUA

The free installs of CCleaner, Recuva, Speccy and Defraggler were flagged as containing PUA (not being PUA) for the presence of the Chrome offer ... which has been in there since 2010 ...

Again, none of the offers are silent installs.  And the risk of the AV offers slipping through unnoticed due to client connection failures was eliminated in October of last year.  Since then only @nukecad seems to have found a way to break it - and even he hasn't been able to replicate how he did it.

I think it's more than just some "offer" in an antiquated build.

Nope.  The flagging by Defender is not of a "threat" but a "PUA" advisory that the free installer contained an offer for Chrome ... which had been there since CCleaner version 3 back in late 2010.   In other breaking news, Eyjafjallajoekull is disrupting air travel, they got the Chilean miners out, and Samsung and Apple have new phones out - but no way either of them could ever knock Nokia off their perch as the #1 mobile phone brand. 😉

I run win7 64 ultimate and I got the following message from ESET Internet Security a little while ago (see attachment).

@sotiris: AV engines often copy each other's homework so it is quite possible that is related.  Looks like that was from the original release though (judging by the age 1 week part).  What happens when you try the new repack build https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup569.exe  ?

Microsoft has updated the description of the PUA:Win32/CCleaner detection at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/threats/malware-encyclopedia-description?Name=PUA:Win32/CCleaner&ThreatID=277099

That article seems to have been written in haste and is riddled with errors.  Aside from calling us CCcleaner (with 3 "c"s 😉 ) they have a screenshot of an Avast offer with a checkbox that was discontinued back in October of last year in favour of the transparent accept/decline on a separate page:

    image.png

They have the correct screenshot of the AVG offer in the Technical Information section (same layout as above with two separate accept/decline buttons) but caption it referring to a "preselection" which would also suggest a lack of proofreading.  We've reached out to Microsoft suggesting that they might want to check their homework.

Their description of the Chrome precheck is accurate.  It's been that way since 2010 and most people are used to it by now, but as mentioned in previous posts here it has been on our "to-do" list for a while to try and get that into the same accept/decline presentation as well.

Hi, I'm a longtime pro user and have a serious issue that just started recently.  I am no longer able to access the CCleaner domain while connected thru NordVPN on Windows 10.  This means that the app also does not function properly (ie fails to check updates, recycle bin shortcut hangs app when running, etc.).  As soon as I disconnect from Nord the app functions as expected.

Are you all intentionally blocking Nord's servers from accessing your product(s)?  If so, I cannot continue to support this product as I'm not going to disconnect from my VPN provider every time I empty the bin or run the app.  I truly hope this is a temporary issue that will be resolved.

    Please advise...

We don't block NordVPN, or VPNs generally - indeed we think they're neat and spend a lot of time using them ourselves.  But it certainly sounds like something is amiss somewhere.

    • Usual debug questions - Windows Edition and build? Firewall and AV software?
    • Are there any entries in your c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file?  Especially anything referencing CCleaner domains?
    • Which browser were you using to access https://www.ccleaner.com? Do you have the same experience when using a different browser?  If the same problem, are there any plugins that you are using on both browsers?
    • I take it that you also have the same problem connecting to https://community.ccleaner.com and had to disconnect your VPN to post this?  With the VPN connected were you able to reach https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup569.exe or https://support.piriform.com ?
    • What message (if any) do you get when attempting to connect to www.ccleaner.com or checking for updates?
    • May I ask what countries you are emulating when connecting through the VPN and, if you do an IP lookup of yourself, what ISP they turn up as?
    • Are you always using the same VPN exit point?  Does your experience change when using different exit points?

If file puma has somehow taken over or hacked the downloads of Piriform, that's your problem to solve

No-one has touched our website - but everything you have described sounds like you have installed something else malicious on your computer that is interfering with its operation.  That is not something that we can help you with, but you really really need to get that checked out.

    and then opened filepuma.

Very bad idea to download CCleaner from anywhere other than our official website.  If for whatever reason you want to roll back to an older version you can pull it from https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup567.exe.

But now you are taken to File puma and it does the downloads. Why doesn't Piriform do their own downloading now?

We do.  The update alerts do go directly to CCleaner.com - either to https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/update or directly to https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download/standard.  I have no idea what filepuma is, but it is not related to us in any way.  If you were taken there directly from CCleaner then that sounds like you have some sort of link hijacker on your PC.  If you have picked up something untoward on your PC that might be causing some of your other problems.  I would recommend checking what extensions and toolbars you have in your browser and probably a comprehensive malware scan of your computer.

Windows Defender only marks the "Standard installer" version as a PUA

Indeed.  The paid versions and slim builds are not a problem.  At this point it would seem that Microsoft is not flagging CCleaner, as such, but the presence of an offer for a browser that competes with Edge.

    confirmed viruses

Absolutely not a virus - unfortunately most Windows Defender users will not be able to tell the difference 😞

  14. CCleaner is the product, Piriform is the company - more people know CCleaner, and got a bit confused by the extra corporate logoing, or kept clicking on the pear thinking it would change colours or otherwise do something magical.

We had to reorganise that top bar to make room for some more status information in an upcoming release - so with heavy hearts the corporate vanity logo was the thing to go.
