  1. This has already been covered in a couple of other threads. Short recap - it's a bug and there's a patch in the works now.
  2. After a bunch of bug reports this evening I think I now grasp your original point. For some reason, toggling autorenewal on in 5.74 also toggles on Smart Cleaning, which lets you know proactively when there is stuff to clean, rather than waiting for you to run it manually. Which means you have to go back and switch Smart Cleaning back off again - which is a pest if you did not want it on. While Smart Cleaning is not a privacy concern, having it on unexpectedly is a user experience issue, and a bug. We are working on a patch fix at the moment. in the meantime, to make deactivating Smart Cleaning stick, the work-around is: Unchecking all of the boxes on the Options > Smart Cleaning screen in CCleaner (going from top to bottom, as the "Enable Smart Cleaning" is greyed out if "Tell me when there are junk files to clean" is checked); and Unchecking the Options > Updates > Keep CCleaner updated automatically option.
  3. @balloon66: To confirm, did you mean to include an error message, or are you saying that you received the same error as TheOwner? I just tried this myself to deactivate Smart Cleaning on CCleaner Professional and it seemed to work as intended. When I disabled Smart Cleaning it popped up with the usual "are you sure" box, I confirmed and everything was unchecked on the Options > Smart Cleaning screen. When I closed CCleaner it disappeared from the task bar as would be expected if Smart Cleaning is switched off. When I restarted CCleaner and reopened Options > Smart Cleaning the options all remained unchecked as per the screenshot below. I tried this with an active licence that expires December 2020 and also a "legacy" licence (ie: it shows an expiry date in 2014 and is "Expired" but remains active) with the same experience for both. Although it did toggle Smart Cleaning back on when I reset and changed accounts, it seemed to stick properly for each specific account. Not sure what could be causing this experience for you, so please bear with us as we try to pinpoint what might be causing this: Is your copy of CCleaner showing itself as CCleaner Free or CCleaner Professional in the top left corner? If it is showing as CCleaner Professional, when you go to Options > About > License Information is it showing your current licence key as active and unexpired? If it is expired, what year does it show as the expiry year? 2012-2018? 2019-2020? Or 2000 (meaning that the licence was disabled) Have you changed licence key recently? Does this failure to deactivate happen more than once, or just the one time and it works on subsequent occasions?
  4. We have had a few requests for CCleaner to "clean the cloud", in addition to the cookie-cleaning, ad blocking and fingerprint blockings that our products already do. The challenge will be to do this while still adhering to our data principles of handling as little of your personal information as possible. We don't even want to know your email address unless we are obliged to for billing communications - we certainly don't want to go anywhere near your account passwords.
  5. The change is that as and when you run CCleaner, if there is a new version, instead of it popping up and requiring you to go on a journey to the website to download the new version to keep your cleaning up to date you have the option for the updates to happen automatically. If you are not running CCleaner continuously in the background then yes - it will not update until you run it. If you love manually updating software every month then that option remains available to you. If you have concerns about "monitoring" or "spyware" you should probably take a few minutes to read https://www.ccleaner.com/about/data-factsheet. We are nowhere near as interested in you as you might think. If you still have concerns, you can contact CCleaner support at support@ccleaner.com with a request for a copy of your data as per https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004083991-I-would-like-to-request-a-copy-of-the-data-that-you-hold-about-me-How-do-I-request-this-. You can also request that this data be deleted. Spoiler alert, however, is even if you are a paying subscriber, the entirety of the information held about you is little more than what you can retrieve yourself from https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup.
  6. I note that you posted this 6 times - presumably in error - so I took the liberty of deleting the duplicates. Could you elaborate on this please? CCleaner and CCleaner Browser are products of a UK company called Piriform. We are not owned by Microsoft and have no partnership relationship with them other than to use some Azure cloud services for hosting.
  7. Could you clarify what it is that you are trying to do? If you are trying to register your copy of CCleaner Professional on your PC that does not use your email address, but rather the name that you entered when you purchased CCleaner, and your licence key. If you are trying to recover your registration information, retrieve your download link or check your expiry date you can do so from https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup using only your email address. No password is required as the information is posted to your email address. If you are trying to contact customer support, their contact details were in the email received after you purchased - ie: support@ccleaner.com. Again, no password is required. Please note that this is a peer support forum, populated by fellow CCleaner users. If you need assistance specific to your account, the best course of action is to contact customer suport.
  8. A note of warning on comparison sites though is that: For any product, comparison websites monetise from sponsored advertising and affiliate commissions on a percentage of referred sales. Ranking, at last in the top 3-5, tends therefore to be based more on how much the site is given as a cut of sales, rather than actual product differentiation. Since CCleaner has a very popular free edition, I will let you draw your own conclusion on how that might play out. CCleaner has a user base larger than the population of most countries - which makes the search term "ccleaner" excellent clickbait for sites promoting products you have never heard of before. See point 1, above.
  9. Recovering deleted files never guarantees recovery of all of the content within - especially if the data has been overwritten or otherwise chewed prior to recovery. I think we used to recommend Irfanview (not sure if that is available for Mac or not) as an image viewer that was more tolerant to data corruption and would let you save whatever content was retrievable from the file that was recovered. Not sure if that is still the go-to these days though.
  10. Additional notes: The extra time credit will be applied within 15 working days (usually more like 5) if you renew at most 90 days before expiry and with the same account (ie: you purchase using the same email address as last time). If you purchase "incognito" with a different email address, or more than 3 months early, then the system won't automatically match the two licences - but under those circumstances you can contact support and they'll stitch it all together for you. Probably more detail that you need here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039530092-Will-I-lose-any-time-on-my-subscription-if-I-take-an-offer-to-renew-early-
  11. Sounds like you found the instructions for CCleaner Cloud (the business software) somehow? You don't need to log in to anything - if you want to put CCleaner Professional on a different computer and need a download link and/or to find your licence key, you can get those from https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup - just fill in your email address and it will post you the details.
  12. At around this time in your subscription you should get an occasional message about the benefits of renewing early and/or any deals that are on at the time. However these are set to only pop up about once every couple of weeks - certainly not every day. The most likely causes of getting more messages like this than you should would be: 1) If you are still on a version of CCleaner from before 5.54 (should not be the case as a paid user) 2) If you are using an expired licence instead of your current one. Do the pop-ups suggest that you "renew early", that you will "expire soon" or that you "have expired"? If you go to Options > About > License Information in your copy of CCleaner does it show your renewal date as being November 2020 or November 2019? 3) If your "I have already seen this message so I don't need to see it again" cookie is being wiped, which means that you are telling the messaging system that you haven't seen the notification yet, even though you have. Check Options > Cookies > Cookies to Keep in CCleaner and these four should appear at the top of the list to make sure that everything behaves itself. Let me know if any of them are missing. ... if you have checked all of these and none of them apply please let me know. We are always on the lookout for new bugs to swat!
  13. That sounds like a CCleaner for Windows error? https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional Can you screenshot please? Which MacOS version are you running, and which version of CCleaner please?
  14. Whenever I need to uninstall CCleaner (which I do on a fairly regular basis when uninstalling/reinstalling for testing) I use CCleaner's own Software uninstaller tool (under Tools > Uninstall)
  15. @Tobias1998: Can you confirm which antivirus software you are using? And also which version and build of Windows you are using please? You should be able to get that by typing "winver" from the Windows search bar. Mine is Windows 10 Version 1909, for example:
  16. Can you screenshot what you're seeing? Can you also confirm which version of CCleaner for Mac you are using (I assume the latest, 1.17) and your Mac OS version?
  17. @Hammerhead Shark: Garden variety temporary false positive, which MS fixed Saturday evening - see here for details:
  18. This has been confirmed as a false positive and had already sorted itself out Saturday afternoon (along with a Dr Web false positive as well). As of the time of writing, Windows Defender should now have no problems with the free version of CCleaner 5.70. We get this from time to time with new releases of CCleaner - an AV company's threat detection robots will observe that something they haven't seen before is suddenly getting millions of downloads in a day and they block it "just in case" until their analysts can take a look at it and mark it as safe. Some companies are more consistently on the ball than others when it comes to trying to avoid inconvenience to their users. As a general rule, if your AV is pinging false positives and you would rather not let your shields down then waiting 12-72 hours and trying again will generally do the trick.
  19. There is no Windows registry to clean on Macs. Being a different operating system environment, the Mac version and the Windows version of CCleaner have a number of differences (and both are, in turn, different from the Android version). Requests for assistance, refunds, etc for paid versions of CCleaner can be sent to support@ccleaner.com.
  20. @thomasdixonIf you have problems downloading CCleaner Professional from Cleverbridge you can always get it from here: Windows version: https://www.ccleaner.com/go/get_ccpro Mac version: https://www.ccleaner.com/go/get_ccmacpro ... and don't forget to register to get the Pro features working: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional
  21. Translation: "ccleaner deleted the files in my important google plugin The recovery software could not find the deleted files, please tell me how to recover"
  22. @Alejo2k: If this is the same issue as reported elsewhere, this should be fixed in CCleaner 5.70. Could you try updating and see if that solves the problem for you?
  23. @Ivan Belov: Have you updated to CCleaner 5.70? Did you find that solved your problem?
  24. Can also be done from a link in your Cleverbridge purchase or billing notification email - which stops future auto-extension but does not trigger a cancellation/refund of the licence itself: ... or inside CCleaner under Options > About > License Information > Manage Subscription ... ... and then click that Cancel button:
  25. That is in the process of being added to an errata note on the release notes, as we only spotted it ourselves after launch. These new settings weren't supposed to ship until a later version and got caught up in this build release - they are still in "draft mode" and not hooked up to anything at the back end yet. Absolutely not intended to be included without explanation - quite the contrary, the plan was to make a big headline noise about this when finally released. They slipped out early and incomplete in our haste to fix the Firefox issue. Once active, they will be part of a mechanism to allow free users greater control over their privacy to opt-out of seeing certain offers in the same manner that paying users currently enjoy - expanding privacy settings and certainly not curtailing them in any way.
