Yeah t's a bit tricky. This command will copy *.* from a folder I right-click on including subdirectories but it will not create the main directory; the "docs folder does not get created upon backup, just everything inside the folder.

I'm adding a backup option to my context menu. I want to make it so that whatever directory I'm in I can right-click on a file or folder and have it backed up to a certain location. This is the command I have so far: My question is: How do I maintain the same directory structure? If I want to backup c:\docs how can I make sure that they are copied to d:\Backups\docs? As it is right now the "docs" subdirectory does not get copied. Of course, this is just an example. Any ideas?

Here is a way you can add defragging capabilities to any file and/or folder via the context menu. This has been a much requested feature at the JKDefrag forum. Just copy the below text in a blank. txt file, give it a .reg extension, change the locations of you JKDefrag exe file (command line version), and import. The "Defrag File" entry in obviously for files and "Defrag Folder" is for folders. This works perfectly for me. Let me know if you have any trouble. If you want I can email you a customized version and all you have to do is import it.

You could try either GAIM or miranda. I personally use Miranda and like it very much.

There are three versions of the defragger with JKDefrag; the gui version, the command line version and the screensaver version. The command line version can easily be run by using bat files. Both the command lines version and the screensaver version allow for the use of switches, for instance: JkDefragCmd.exe [-a N] [-s N ] [-d N] [-l "filename"] [items] When I want to do a full optimization via the command lines version, I use these switches: -a 4 -d 1 But for the screensaver version I do not use the full optimization switch because it will wear out the drive faster. For that I use: -a 3 -d 1 Hope that helps clear thing up a bit.

Again, it's not as if you are defragging your entire drive every night. By running JKDefrag every night you are just defragging the files that have become fragmented since the last time it was ran. A regular once a month defrag can take hours which means there is a lot of reading and writing going on by the heads. But this is not occurring every night. There is no need to worry.

I guess I just don't see the point to using any other program. Here are it's upsides: 1. It only requires at most if you use all three versions of the program 800k, 2. It defrags when I'm not using my system anyway, 3. I don't have to wait to use my system; just move the mouse and I'm ready to go, 4. I can talk directly with the developer, 5. It's constantly updated, and oh yeah, 6. It's free. So if you think it's doing no good nor no harm, why not use it for the reasons I mentioned above. There are other resources to me that are valuable; ie. hard drive space. Every other defragger you could come up with required more space than that, which the exception of horrible ones like Contig and Buzzsaw. At this point, it just doesn't make sense you use anything else. Yes, as you might have guessed, I am very much a fan of command-line driven apps.

I must admit that I very much like JKdefrag. I have their forum bookmarked. I like the fact that you can easily talk directly with the developer if there are any issues. Some above posts mentioned that they think using the screensaver as a defrag is overkill which I disagree with. It's not as if you are defragging your entire drive every time the screesaver launches, just files that have become fragmented since the last times. It takes me an average of thirty seconds per partition because my drive is in good shape. Also, there are settings that you can use to control how often the screensaver defrags. I used to use MST Software Defrag HE, and really liked that too. But this way there are no processes running in the background that take up resources, it's working while the screensaver is on. With htis I can make sure my disk is in good shape without any hastle, without large programs, and without needing to devote hours to defragging.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but it might be a step in the right direction Look at Phantom's site here. There you can get both a secure recycle bin eraser and a folder/file eraser. Options for file/folder erasing are added to the context menu and can be changed by editing the reg file(s).

I'm sorry if this is getting off topic. But I would like to know more about this area. And I must admit I know very little of exact defragmentation procedures. Fiust off, thank you very much for comments regarding Defrag and the -d 5 switch. That was indeed the problem. I like Defrag very much but, this might just be pure curiosity, I am wondering as well about dirms. I have looked at all three, Contig, Defrag, and Dirms (Buzzsaw). As I understand it dirms has a commsnd line version as well as a giu/service driven version. How then is the CL version different from Defrag. I must admit I do prefer dirms cl version because it is easier to see what is going on. But is it as effective. I would think the advantage to using a defragmentation program via command line is that system resources are sparred. Would htat then not be the case using dirms' service driven product(s)? What then is the difference between Contig and Defrag 2.5? I know they are both command line application but what places one above the other? Defrag 2.5 is good but it creates a rather large log (400 meg +) each time. Contig does not do that.

Really so-pp4 is out already? Where? I just checked and the latest I can find is pp3. Maybe you mean that there is a patch for pp4. The installer that's out right now is only pp3. If I'm not wrong, pp4 will reflect changes made in openoffice 2.04; including pdf security features and update checking. If there is an integrated installer for pp4 please let me know.

That is nothing more than a rebranded OOpremium. It was good, but nothing special. It just included clipart, fonts, templates, etc. If I were you I would stay with StarOffice. BTW when does StarOffice release so-pp4?

What do you mean? If you are asking whether this is a problem for normal operation than no it is not. What OS are you running. If it is an NT based system and you wish to convert the FAT32 partition to an NTFS partition just: 1. Open the command promt (run < cmd) 2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

I noticed no one has added any entries for StarOffice 8 to the app2.ini. Has anyone created an entry for it? I would like to be able to use CCleaner to erase the list of last files used within SO.

If you like that than I'd recommend another product based on CDRTools (CDRTFE)...try it here I would like to point out that I have recently started having problem with that (new incompatable burner) and have swtich to O.N.E.S. here I have never had any problems with that and like it very much. There are other things to consider. Rule-based firewalls tend to use less resources, in every sense of the word, that "gui based." That being said, I use LNS and have never had to fiddle with my ruleset after I initially tweaked Phanton's v6. If you ask me, no software firewall can be a rule based firewall. Rule based firewalls, LNS, Kero 2.5, etc., are just plain better. They allow the experienced more control over what happening with their system. Others, ZA, Outpost, etc., tend to be more of a cookie-cutter firewall where one size fits all. Althought these firewall tend to be easier for the average user to use, which is why people use them. If Symantec has taught us anything don't just assume that just because I company has a better marketing department that it is a better product. Norton IS NOT the best product and yrt is is the best seller.

CCleaner seems to be causing a very minor yet annoying problem for me. If I set all a folder to 'view' > ''details,' then 'folder' < 'options' < 'view' < 'Apply to All Folders' then run CCleaner (and restart) that view scheme is reset for all folders. Any idea how to fix this? Is CC the problem?

You could always try Proxomitron which works by proxy. Then it wouldn't matter what browser you used as long as you set it up. Also, you could try AdMuncher, although it is not free. It works by hooks rather than proxies. They are both excellent.

I think that CCleaner is the reason for my problem. Ever since I installed the latest beta I've been having this issue. I have added NOD's setting registry keys to my exclusion list on my cleaner , so I know it is not the problem.
