  1. Honestly, I don't know what to think at this point. It would be beneficial to hear from Piriform.
  2. Very strange. As you can see, I still have it.
  3. @nukecad -- I am very much concerned about the questions you are raising and agree an explanation is needed. Is the Software Updater physically gone from the tools section of your CCleaner Free version? Mine still has it.
  4. Good to know. It's worth a try. Thanks!
  5. @nukecad -- Thanks for explanation. Last night, the Updater in the Free version was showing error 26. In another post somewhere on the forum this morning, Piriform blamed that on a server problem which was reportedly fixed. Now, things are changing behind the scenes (which I greatly detest) and I get the feeling the entire program is turning into one massive mess. I dumped CCleaner last October out of frustration but decided recently to give it another chance. I'm starting to regret it.
  6. @nukecad -- As of this writing, Updater is still showing in my CCleaner Free v5.55. However, what showed in my screenshot posted above is now missing and all I get is a constantly spinning blue circle. I'm inclined to agree with you -- something is being done remotely, regardless of user settings.
  7. Oops. Sorry. My bad. I appreciate the clarification.
  8. And why, as Stephen says it's Windows Media Player displaying incorrectly, does it show on your CCleaner as needing an update while on mine, it shows it as up-to-date and I'm on the exact same Win 10 version you are?
  9. CCleaner version 5.54 and Windows 10 1809 OS build 17763.348 -- bug is still present, at least on my machine. "Fair Play" message has come up three times in the last two days -- once while just using the computer, twice within minutes after a reboot. EDIT: Just restarted computer, "Fair Play" message popped-up again -- fourth time in two days. I uninstalled CCleaner last October for reasons scattered all over the forums. I wanted to give it another chance. Doesn't look promising.
  10. Issue continues -- not fixed. First reported in October and Piriform said they were working on a fix. Hasn't happened. See this Piriform announcement to get around it (if you want) by group policy (Win 10 Pro) or registry editing (Win 10 Home). https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/troubleshooting/how-to-disable-pre-launching-and-pre-loading-so-ccleaner-can-fully-clean-edge Also note -- new version of CCleaner will notify cleaning is needed after you reach 1GB of junk files. Threshold used to be half of that -- 0.5GB.
  11. CCleaner also used to clean the Windows 10 Reliability Monitor. That stopped as well when 1809 came out. May as well wait. In a few months there'll be another Windows 10 Feature Update to mess everything up.
  12. Starting with CCleaner 5.47.6716, every version has been partially broken by Windows 10 1809. I posted the following in October and in the thread, Piriform said they were working on a fix. It still hasn't happened. And yes, it does not clean the event log.
  13. I was going to start a thread similar to this one but decided I'm just going to agree with @Aethernaut and the other comments above. Since Avast took over, I've lived with borked builds, impossible to delete ad cookies, invasive ads, data mining, etc. The 'summer sales' ad was bad enough. The one going around now shows up every time I turn on my computer or restart. It even comes up occasionally while I'm actually doing some work on my computer. I know how to block internet access but I'm not going to jump through hoops to make a product work and this is something no one should have to do. Still, I stuck in there with CCleaner and even filed a bug thread when it didn't work properly with the paused Windows 10 1809. I used to love CCleaner but it has turned into crap -- it should delete itself. I'm sorry I feel this way but the info collecting is out of hand and out of control. No more. I'm done. CCleaner is off my system and I'm moving on. I will check in every so often to the forums but I'm done with it. Should CCleaner ever return to the excellent tool it used to be, I might come back. Good luck to all.
  14. Nice information to have. I have Cortana disabled but there are many things going on behind the scenes. It is a bit of a pain but I do understand CCleaner can't do its thing if Edge is running. We will have to see what Piriform can come up with.
  15. Please see this thread I started in the 'bug' section. Issue has been reported to Piriform and they're working on a fix for this as well as other issues. EDIT: @nukecad is entirely correct. Many Windows background processes use Edge and Internet Explorer even if you've never opened those browsers. Example -- restart your computer and if you do not open Edge, you will find that it is running. Adding to this issue, especially on Windows 10, the feature and cumulative updates change the paths that CCleaner uses. Makes things difficult for Piriform to keep up with and when you get Windows updates that break things or get suspended or pulled, that delays bug fixes as well.
  16. I'm on the same build you are and have not had any issues. The only glitches -- the timestamp for Windows Defender definitions is off by several hours on the user interface (but not on Windows Update) and CCleaner's inability to clean everything that's checked (stems from 1809 and I reported that in the 'bug' section. Piriform is working on a fix).
  17. I've blocked CCleaner access to the internet so I'm not bothered. Three people I know are complaining that they've started getting a pop-up ad for 40% off CCleaner Pro. I showed them how to block it. No idea how intrusive this one is.
  18. NOTE: For anyone following this thread -- as of this writing, Microsoft has pulled Windows 10 1809 ….. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619 Read "known issues" https://betanews.com/2018/10/06/problematic-windows-10-october-2018-update-pulled/ https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-has-pulled-windows-10-october-2018-update-users-files-go-missing
  19. @Stephen Piriform -- I appreciate your prompt reply. Should I find anything else, I will post the information.
  20. @hazelnut -- many thanks once again! Seems to be a lot of stuff that needs sorting out with 1809.
  21. @hazelnut -- I appreciate the advice regarding the registry cleaner. You make some excellent points. Do you think the devs would look at the other issues?
  22. UPDATE: Neighbor updated to Win 10 1809 earlier today. Same issues as above with CCleaner 5.47.6716. Developers probably need to take a look.
  23. My Windows 10 desktop updated to version 1809 last night -- the new official October Feature Update. CCleaner 5.47.6716 no longer cleans the following: 1. Recent files/documents in File Explorer 2. Reliability History 3. Windows Event Logs (CCleaner shows they're cleaned but they're still there) 4. Registry Cleaner keeps finding the same Application Paths Issue after every reboot (System32\DriverStore\FileRepository) 5. CCleaner must force close Edge browser prior to every cleaning, even if the browser has been closed (not that big a deal to me) There may be more but that's what I've noticed so far. Thanks.
