  1. Just some simple little program that I can record some addresses and phone numbers in. Not a caller though. Thanks
  2. Hi. I am looking for a free program to record addresses and phone numbers, and I wonder if anyone knows where I could find one. Thanks.
  3. So they're making some progress with it. That's good to hear. However, I think that I'll wait for the final version before I switch again.
  4. I have been using this program for sometime now and think it is great. I use it mainly for the spread sheet. However, I have used the Writer (word program) and the presentation program (or powerpoint) and they are great. I'm sure that this package will suit the needs of most users.
  5. I tried IE7 Beta2 and then uninstalled it after two or three days. It is crap. I am now using IE6 again, and don't plan to try any more IE Betas any time soon.
  6. Hi Cowboy. There are folks here who will be able to respond to your question and provide better answers than I can, but I'll get the ball rolling. Firefox is a very easy program to download. It takes a lot less space than IE, and there are many people who will tell you that it is a lot safer to use than IE. As I understand it, IE is something like Norton software, a real space hog. You do not have to uninstall IE to have FF on your pc, and you can use both for web browsing, if you wish. FF will allow you to do searches, have a homepage, etc., but if you want to use it for e-mail, then you must download the FF companion, which is called Thunderbird. I have used both in the past and love it; however, my pc crashed last year (had nothing to do with FF or TB), but after that I started using IE again, and have simply been too lazy to switch back to Thunderbird. but I still sometimes use FF, though. FF is a great program, and I would suggest that you be brave and give it a try. Good luck. Joe

    Uninstalling IE7

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting rid of ths. I was able to delete this program by going to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and then uninstalling. After that, my IE6 was restored as it was before I made the foolish mistake of downloading IE7. This is a real crap program, and if anyone is toying with the idea of trying it, my advice is DON'T.
  8. Soybean said "Got Outlook? It has Notes, and they can be placed on the desktop." I have Outlook, but how is this done? Thanks.
  9. Thanks everybody. I appreciate the info., and I'm sure that I'll find something here that will do the trick. My apologies for being so vague.
  10. I was thinking of something like a note page that would sit on my desktop and I could place notes or reminders to myself.
  11. Hi I was wondering if anyone would know where I can get a free desktop notepad? Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the comments, everybody. I have downloaded the free version of MailWasher, and it seems to be working well. I am going to try it for awhile. It allows me to check e-mails while they are still on the ISP servicer. http://www.mailwasher.net/ I really appreciate the help.
  13. Thank you very much. I appreciate the help. I'll take a look at this.
  14. I have been getting a lot of annoying junk e-mails lately from outfits selling pills and shoddy investments. I have used the Block Message feature in Outlook, but these people are very creative and just use different sender names. Are there any free programs available to block this stuff? If I have to pay for a software program, first of all, are they worth the money, and does anybody know of a good one that I should consider? I have heard of fire trust MailWasher Pro. Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks.
  15. Somebody recommended it to me a little over a year ago, so I bought a one year subscription to try it out. Since then PC World has given it some excellent reviews and rates it as one of the best. However, I liked it so much that when my subscription expired last month, I renewed it again for two years. I don't think that you'll regret buying it. Good luck.

    Software Faq

I think that having an area for essential software is a great idea. Sometime ago I found Rainlendar on the Best Freeware link, at least I think that's where I found it. I think that it is a great little program, and I wouldn't want to be without it. Would you please consider adding it to your essential list? http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/ Thanks.
  17. I just want to thank TM for updating the Beginner's Guide. It is really nice to have, and we really appreciate all the effort that went into making it available. papajoe
  18. Where can I find this? I checked the program that I downloaded some time ago, and the OO website, but I can't find QuickStart. Thanks.
  19. I wonder how long it will be before there is a Google Operating System?
  20. I just downloaded this program, and I gotta tell you, I am quite impressed. It was real easy to download, and I had no problems with it at all. Based on a quick scan through it, it looks as though it will do everything that I need to do. The beauty of it is that I can save files to open in MS Word, Excel, etc., so I can work on docs at home and then open them up in the office. Great program. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
  21. Thank you very much for the info.
  22. I understand that Open Office is compatible with MS. I haven't downloaded it yet, but I have a question. If someone sends me an email with a Word attachment, what do I have to do to open it? Can I just click on the Word attachment to open it in OO, or do I have to open up OO to access it? Thanks.
  23. This looks great. Thanks for telling us about it. I hope that this one gets pinned.
  24. I was having trouble yesterday, but it seems to be working fine now.
