Similar "analyze before optimizing" freeware is WinASO RegDefrag. With a good-looking interface and a good detailed report is the latest freeware product from Auslogic: Auslogics Registry Defrag - Screenshots.
  2. Some users have been to complain about a false positive in PC Tools AntiVirus: "winlogon.exe" file, with a dangerous repercussion if deleted by AV. The same to "Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 5.0".
  3. For that purpose I use Spamihilator, that is very capable. After you configure it the performance become effective. It's a good choice.
  4. The user uses if the settings allows that...
  5. Because the settings in Shortcut are erroneous. Try to change the settings like this: Right click in Shortcut icon > "Properties" > tab "Shortcut" > in "Target" box write "C:/Program Files/JK Defrag/JkDefragGui.exe" > in "Start in" box write "C:/Program Files/JK Defrag" > "Apply" > "OK" Now anymore the files are recreated in your "User Name" folder when you use the Shorcut! If "Start in" box is empty or with your "User Name" path the files are recreated again... A computer is like a woman: the problem are their settings...
  6. When you open "JkDefragGui.exe" some files are extracted to the same folder. If you open the Gui file in "C:/Documents and Settings/User Name" those files are extracted there. It seems that can there are a Shortcut'settings trouble in your case.
  7. Yeaph... And it's free... I'm thinking about... Thanks, I tried it. Better than RegEdit and it is ligth and nice. I chose RegCool (haven't undo'feature like Vilma) - but has a far more quick search than RegAlyzer. From their website: "Analyze an installation so it can be completely uninstalled (also supports reboots of the computer as the process is split into two: Before and after the installation)". If you use it you have less and less uninstall troubles and less junk in your PC (files) and Registry.
  8. I want to replace "Vilma Registry Explorer" for another Registry Editor. All of a sudden Vilma had been to give errors (I don't know why). I want a good Registry Editor - and, please, a freeware... I'll appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.
  9. Can we see 'TrendProtect' in Add/Remove programs? I ask this because some weeks ago I installed 'Transaction Guard' (from Trend Micro too) and I couldn't uninstall with add/remove. I was a lucky guy once again with previous ZSoft analyze.
  10. Did you tried to rename the "Catroot2" folder like explained in Microsft'link (my previous post)? And after that to reboot the PC?
  11. All defraggers use the Microsoft's defragmentation API. They need that to work in Windows. The problems that are discussed in the link that Anthony A provided comes out with Diskeeper'installation. When Diskeeper is installed the standard Windows defragger is replaced by Diskeeper. And related annoyances can arise when Diskeeper is uninstalled.
  12. This works perfectly to me also. And it's useful to use when we want to defrag the avi, iso or wav files.
  13. Same to me... I installed this firewall in my laptop (with ZoneAlarm and Comodo I pass in ShiedsUP'test). Maybe you can try their forum'suggestions - I'll try later... . See here.
  14. "RegCure is a rogue registry cleaning utility that gives the user false hopes in fixing the problems enumerated", said in Malwarebytes'RogueRemover application. RogueRemover is a utility that can remove various rogue antispyware, antivirus and hard drive cleaning utilities. You can use CCleaner to clean the registry and RegSeeker too. They work very well.
  15. When the user open any kind of executable file (.exe) the windows registry changes. It's enough to open Microsoft Excel or Word (excel.exe, winword.exe files) even as Windows Explorer (explorer.exe). You can test that with ZSoft Uninstaller (or Total Uninstall). It isn't a weird action - but really curious.
  16. BrownSugar, these programs can uninstall automatic upgrades'changes! You need to analyze before the upgrade and after installation'upgrade. Of course you stay tired to do that always... And I think that doesn't matter too much. I do that with those app. that are installed online (ActiveX based installation) - because many haven't uninstaller's... and modify too much...
  17. If you like MyUninstaller from NirSoft you can try PUI (Program Uninstallation Information) also. There are with installation and standalone. Screenshot.
  18. In general you are right! But think: his daughter isn't culprit by reason of to have such father...
  19. In fact Double Driver is good to backup/restore drivers. Useful and easy to use. I have been using it for that. BooZet's Free Software have useful app. like the good BeClean 1.4 (CCleaner is excellent...). However all projects are discontinued. And now their Page is a place to hackers. Something happened. It's sad. But... c'est la vie... If you have Windows XP/Vista you can try DriverMax (screenshots here). I didn't tried it (I use Win 2000) but it seems also good - freeware but you need a free registration.
  20. eDexter and Homer aren't what I want: 1) they work with images only (with very limitations); 2) worst, they need to run in a background processing. Definitively: it isn't interesting to me. It seems that there are a required condition: to handle and modify the "shdoclc.dll" file. I made that and when I try to open any site that are blocked by the host file and forwards to localhost 127.0.0.1, comes out the message that I want (replace previous "error" message). Now, the info message is customized.
  21. A large changelog's! Good news? Real features improvements? It seems the answer it must to be affirmative. At least: the screen saver mode make a much better job; this mode have more useful options; log file give us an accurate but a lot more clean info; a new optimization process; the GUI support taskscheduler now, bugs fixed. The changes are welcomed. P.S.: These applications are standalone - they don't need installation!
  22. Thanks Sputnik and TeeJay3800 for your suggestions. I'll try these applications. Afterwards I'll tell if it is the answer to my desire. Thanks again.
  23. An apology for my delayed reply. I have been entertained with the carnival'pleasures... And finishing the JkDefrag GUI'portuguese translation. Certainly you are sure of. English is not my native language and some rectifications are needed or even a misunderstanding can occur with. Your patience is appreciated... Thanks. Ooops!... I think TeeJay3800 understood what I wanted to mean! I hope... I made a HTLM document (not a Britney Spears'picture... ) and I want that this document (that it is saved in my PC - not in Web) comes out unlike "cannot display" message'page. My question is: How can I do that in the host file (or another place...)? hpHosts disable more cracks, spammers, rogue'sites. But it's normal (MVPS have about 14.000 items; hpHosts 57.000). However MVPS is an excellent choice. hpHosts is a personal option mine. You're right. But it isn't a weird behavior. Any protection have these annoyances. Notwithstanding in this uncomfortable situation I use HostsMan to delete the host'item that give rise to this bother. Also, e.g., if I use IE-SPYAD I can't download Spyware Terminator in their Home Page. To use SpwareBlaster is a good idea. Like using IE-SPYAD (AdvancedWindows Care'immunization is also good).
