The main poster was linking a screenshot of an app that will create tinyurls without having to visit the site (saves time). Evey reply is about how they can be used to mask (hide) a link to an untrustworthy site and or a virus/spyware download.

It seems to be the ATI's that set it off mostly. But its also partly driver related, as it was working fine for me, when I had windows 7 auto detect and download the drivers. Both speccy versions showed my 4870 just fine, But since I visited the ATI site and manually installed the latest drivers, speccy stopped loading the details. According to the debug log (excerpt below) speccy seems to see the card, but is stuck in a loop..... The Admin indicated that the next version will feature more debugging to find the cause.

(another post resurrection, a few of these recently) Open Source is a nice idea and +1 to every company that does, but I don't see piriform doing this. Piriform is currently known to have a collection of comparably safe utilities, they will want to keep this view an not let unsafe addons or mods mar this view. I'm not against Recuva or the other programs going Open Source but understand why they may want to keep a tight hold on their hard work and programming.

Ahh you meant on a purchased system, then yes many big brand (hp, dell etc) have a reinstall partitions that has all their preconfigured settings and software. On a fresh install from original official windows cd wont create a recovery partition.

Well you should be able to send your .speccy file to your friend, and as long as they have speccy they should be able to use "load snapshot" to see you system for themselves. Most of us here would prefer that piriform don't force a proprietary format on release version as it would nullify some of its usefulness (as you have noticed).
