  1. As said above it has already been brought to their attention. How high a priority it is will be a question for their manager to decide. But as it's only ocassionally causing that 'error writing file', which is easily cured by trying again, then it"s more of an annoyance than a big problem and I don't suppose it will be high up the job list.
  2. Well a restore point was further than I was going to try - but it does point up that it's CFA that has changed and not anything that CCleaner is doing. As for the question as to whether you should have CFA/Windows Ransomware Protection on or off - it is off by default, you have to turn it on yourself. That says to me that Microsoft know it can frequently be wrong; otherwise it would be on by default. Think about it logically, ransomware sounds scary and makes headlimes - but it is targeted at big business not home users. Companies have the money to pay so they are the target. If you have a backup of your files then you are not bothered about ransomware encrypting them, you simply clear the ransomwate and restore the backup. But big companies do many transactions in a short space of time and physically their backup systems can"t keep up.
  3. To add to the above: This blocking behaviour by Controlled Folder Access is reproducable with every version of CCleaner that I have tried, right back to the 'Sunset' v5.64 for XP/Vista. So it would definitely appear to be something in the Controlled Folder Access that has changed, and not something in CCleaner.

  5. I can replicate this 'blocking' issue and I've been doing some testing. (It doesn't actually stop CCleaner from running). Having Skip UAC on or off makes no difference to the CFA blocking. (Neither does enabling/disabling the Performance Optimizer trial which was another thought that I had). You can be sure that if I can track down just why CFA is doing this I'll let people know.
  6. Just to note that I can now replicate this here, and am doing a bit of testing to see if I can find exactly what is causing it. CCleaner still runs fine for me despite the CFA warning, and TBH I'm not particulary worried about it just a bit puzzled as to why CFA is doing this.
  7. It's unclear just what is causing some users to get this, or similar, notifications but Controlled Folder Access says/thinks that it is CCleaner64.exe As only seems to have started recently (although there may be some older related reports) then it has to be suspected that something had changed with either Windows Defender/Controlled Folder Access or with CCleaner itself. One question that has been raised as a possible cause - Do you have "Skip User Account Control warning" enabled in CCleaners Advanced settings? (If so then you could try turning it off to see if that stops the notifications). It is very unlikely to be malware masquerading as CCleaner. (But of course some malwares do pretend to be genuine apps). You should run regular scans with Defender or whichever AntiVirus you use anyway, I scan at least weekly with both Defender and Malwarebytes free version. If you are concerned then I'd suggest temporarily uninstalling CCleaner, and seeing if the notifications stop. If you still get the notification without CCleaner even being on the machine then it can't be CCleaner triggering it.
  8. There does appear to be something going on with Controlled Folder Access for a very small number of users. We now have 3 recent reports of similar notifications from CFA, which isn't a lot when you consider the number of CCleaner users that there are around the world but it is still puzzling. I'll flag it to the staff to see if they can find why this may be happening for just a few users. As it's only happening for a few users then it may be machine or Windows version/settings specific. Could you say what make of machine you have and what Windows version/build you are running?

  10. Controlled Folder Access is not about 'memory' or system files. It is about protecting your own files from ransomware. It is found in Windows Security, Virus and Threat protection, Ransomware protection. It provides an additional layer of protection when programs try to make changes to files in your personal data folders, like your Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders. The only thing that I am aware of that CCleaner would put in any of those folders is a registry backup if you tell the Registry Cleaner to make one. Obviously that would not be happening if you didn't have CCleaner open and run the registry cleaner. Why CFA is being triggered at startup by CCleaner (or what it thinks is CCleaner) I have no idea, but CFA does get things wrong and can be overzealous. (Microsoft admit so themselves). I think that the first thing I would do is a Restart (not a shutdown) of your computer and see if that stops the notifications. Sometimes things Windows can get 'stuck' and carried across Shutdown/Boot - A Restart can clear these. If that still doesn't work then I'd uninstall CCleaner, Restart, and reinstall CCleaner. And as a precaution you may want to run a virus/malware scan on your computer just to make sure that it isn't something else pretending to be CCleaner, although that's unlikely some malwares do like to pretend that they are well known apps. For info what is your Windows version/build? I assume that your CCleaner is installed at the Standard Location- "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\....".
  11. Try this: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204210674-Why-is-Chrome-cleaning-being-skipped-#why-is-chrome-cleaning-being-skipped--0-0
  12. See the third section of this about Controlled Folder Access:
  13. Also - Don't forget to cancel any recurring payment you may have set up in Paypal as well, or Paypal will still take it even though you have cancelled it with CCleaner.
  14. As you have found the preview/trial of the new Perfomance Optimizer does not currently work properly. It's one reason for doing a preview rather than a full release, to catch any 'late' bugs. They have identified one problem and will fix it for May's update to CCleaner. However yours is slightly different to what we have so far seen, what we have seen is that it runs but just gives a blank screen instead of any results. What you are seeing may be because you have Windows 11, but when you installed/updated CCleaner did you do it as an Admin or as a standard user? I also note that you are using different languages for the admin/non-admin users, I'm not sure if that could be relevant or not. I'll pass this on to the staff, but all we can do is wait for the next update to CCleaner.
  15. I doubt Win 10 will be going out of use for another 10 years or more. Yes it is slated to become EOL in October 2025, but Win 7 and even XP are EOL and many still use them. Because of the hardware requirements for Win 11, I suspect that Win 10 will be in use for even longer. PS. I've got a Windows 98SE machine that I still use for CAD work, building/extension plans for friends mainly. It's also useful to use it's printer now and again. Amazingly the 20 year old Adobe on it can still open modern PDFs to print them. It doesn't go near the internet of course, it won't even connect since I pulled the dial up modem card.
  16. We often see cases where the wrong name or key is being tried, usually it's just a typing mistake, or mistaking a letter with a number in the key. (1 & I, 5 & S, etc.) We have even seen some where the customer had spelled their own name wrongly when purchasing, so has to then spell it wrongly again to register the key. You have to use the name exactly as it was given when registering. Your Purchase confirmation email (not the invoices) should contain the registered name and key so you can copy/paste them from there into the registration boxes in the app(s). Here is the support page about registering, which gives advice on common errors: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional#do-i-need-to-register-my-ccleaner-professional--0-1 Note that with a Pro Plus bundle you have to register each product/app that you want to use within the product/app itself, using the same name/key each time.
  17. CCleaner do run such offers now and again. (I assume CCleaner offered it and not some other website?) Apparently there was an error in the offer and the offer should have said 90 days. (It's now been corrected). If you have cancelled any subscription in the way linked here then Cleverbridge/CCleaner will not take any more. https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020674812-How-do-I-manage-my-CCleaner-subscription-#how-to-cancel-your-subscription--0-3 However - If you paid using PayPal then I would also check that PayPal have not set up a subscription to themselves; and if they have then cancel that as well. We have seen it happen recently where people have cancelled a subscription with Cleverbridge/CCleaner, but PayPal has still taken it.
  18. Good to hear that a reinstall corrected things for you. From the odd text in that screenshot it does look as if the previous install may have been faulty. C'est bon d'entendre qu'une réinstallation a corrigé les choses pour vous. D'après le texte étrange de cette capture d'écran, il semble que l'installation précédente ait été défectueuse.
  19. Defraggler shouldn't have created any temporary files that the built in Windows Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) would then remove. It is possible to get temporary files left behind if your computer crashed or was turned off during the defag. But if that happens then you usually have to remove them manually yourself, Disk Cleanup doesn't know what they are to remove them.. Oh well, as long as Disk Cleanup removed whatever was taking the 120GB then you are good.
  20. You may need to pin its icon to the toolbar, see this:
  21. It will revert to the Free version after 14 days of the free trial. If you don't want/need the Pro features during those 14 days then simply don't use them. https://www.ccleaner.com/download If you don't want CCleaner at all, not even the Free version, then simply uninstall it like any other app.
  22. Firstly I note that your CCleaner is out of date, you should update it to v5.92.9652 Is you CCleaner installed at the default path: C:\Program Files\CCleaner or have you installed it somewhere else? PS. Your screenshot looks unusual - there is text on the Health Check and Custom Clean icons that I have never seen before. Does your CCleaner always look like that?
  23. You may need to 'pin' the icon for the extension to the bar, Chromium based browsers can have a habit of hiding them unless they are pinned. I don't have CCleaner Browser installed here, but there should be a popup menu similar to this where you can pin/unpin them:
  24. That's a typical helpdesk/helper kind of advice when they come across an app that they don't know about - they don't know what CCleaner Browser is/does so 'advise' you to replace it with something more bog-standard eg. Chrome, Firefox or even Edge Chromium. As you have found that is not always the best thing that you can do. (A worse one is that I regularly see 'helpers' on certain other fora 'advising' people to remove particular apps for no other reason than the 'helper' personally doesn't like them). If you do want to use the standard Chrome then I'd advise that you install the free MalwareBytes Browser Guard add-on/extension to it, that will block ads and nasties to keep your browsing safer. There are also versions for Firefox, and Edge Chromium, and for Safari on a Mac. https://www.malwarebytes.com/browserguard
  25. Ah I see. It looks like a display glitch, I do note that there is a blue tick showing as well even though it says '0' and isn't showing any particular driver. I'd try the 'Scan Again' button and if it doesn't change i'd just ignore it. You could try the 'Update All' button - but that's a risk as you don't know just what it might update. If it has found a driver to update then it should be showing you what it has found. I'll point the staff to this post so that the developers can take a look.
