  1. That's a SSC (Site Security Certificate) error, they are not that uncommon. Your browser (or a browser security add-on, or browser protection in your AV - but it's usually the browser itself) is blocking the site because it cannot verify it's SSC. As said that happens sometimes, and is often simply a sign that someone has forgotten to renew the certificate. However checking that particular sites' certificate it was renewed on 5th August 2022. Had you perhaps used an old bookmark/link? Try putting the URL directly into your browsers address bar. I can get to it no problem in both Firefox and Edge Chromium. If you trust the site then usually clicking the 'Learn More' will give you an option to continue to the site. TBH though if it's happening for you on more than one website then I'd have to suspect that it's probably a Win 7 issue, because Win 7 is EOL and so no longer getting security updates.
  2. Sounds like a con to me. But those who have deleted/lost important data will clutch at straws if they think someone might be able to get it back; he's obviously preying on that. The only reliable defence against losing data (on any kind of drive) is to make regular backups to a different drive. (Preferably more than one).
  3. I've seen recovery companies say they might be able to recover from a SSD, you'll even see other recovery apps saying they can in some circumstances. But they are very limited circumstances - and once a TRIM has zeroed the SSD drive all bets are off. For example one recovery app I looked at tells you ('hidden' in the middle of a big block of text): and then says to to disable TRIM before trying to recover, in other words it can't recover anything from a SSD that has already been TRIM'ed. Another app also makes the point (this one in a highlighted box) of saying: but it then goes on anyway to tell you how to try and recover using their app as if they hadn't just said that. Of course they are hoping that you are desperate enough to ignore the warnings, in the vague hope of recovering something by buying their software. To me that's just raising false hopes.
  4. AFAIK just for the offers. Not all cookies are 'bad', in fact most are harmless and helpful, and some you do want - hence the 'cookies to keep' option. But many have got used to throwing all the good cookies away just in case there may be a 'bad' one lurking somewhere. It's a bit like throwing out perfectly good food (cookies maybe?) just because it's reached a 'best before' date. Either one is an easy option 'just in case', although when you stop and think about it then its overkill - but people still do it anyway.
  5. Simply move them out of the cookies to keep list. (I did it years ago). Have 'Save all settings to INI file' enabled in Options>Advanced and they won't get put back after an update. However: As that article says the cookies store if a user of CCleaner Free has been shown a particular offer, and if they have then it won't show it again for a number of months. So if you delete those cookies you will get shown more offers in Free because it won't know that you've already seen them. There are many posts on this forum from people complaining they see too many offers, when checked it's almost always because they are removing cookies (and sometimes registry entries for the Pro version) that would prevent the offers being shown again (and again). In the end it's your choice, but be aware that if you do remove them then you may see pop up offers more frequently.
  6. That's good then. You may still want to consider using Custom Clean rather than Health Check, most more advanced users do for the extra control that it gives.
  7. Nmap is a Network Mapping tool. Is this a computer on a company network? Or maybe a large home network? Nmap isn't installed in Windows as standard, it's a tool that has to be downloaded and installed. (It may get installed as part of a Network Management application). From your screenshot that's the software updater section of Health Check, so it's trying to update Nmap but Nmap isn't letting it. Try using Tools>Software Updater to see more information, see if it finds Nmap as an application to be updated and what version it says you currently have. (You will/should get the same error if you then try to update it). There have been issues in the past with the Software Updater giving the wrong version number for Nmap and so trying to update it when no update is needed. However Nmap did have an update recently, to v7.93, but you may have to update it yourself outside of CCleaner. https://nmap.org/changelog#7.93 If you don't want to update it then you can either: Use Custom Clean not Health Check. Custom Clean does not automatically run Software Updater. Click OK and ignore that warning. It should just leave Nmap alone, but you will keep getting that warning next time. Disconnect from the internet when running Health Check. That will disable/prevent the Software Updater running in Health Check. Using Custom Clean is usually the better option of the 3, it also give you much more control over what is or isn't cleaned. You can set Custom Clean to be the default that CCleaner shows you, Options>Settings>CCleaner Home Screen.
  8. It's working OK here. I see you have the ini file selected, it maybe something to do with that? (Although creating an ini here I can't see any setting for skip UAC, I think it may be a registry entry). The best I can suggest is uninstalling Speccy, do a 'Restart' of the computer (not a shutdown), and then reinstall Speccy from scratch.   9. Agreed, although all the other circumstances (especially combined) would have reduced the chances of recovery from a HDD - if it's an SSD then the files have been zeroed anyway.
  10. They are usually pretty quick, (usually the same day) - but I believe that they have a lot of requests to deal with at the moment so it can be taking a number of days. I'd avoid sending more emails and just wait for their reply. (I'm not sure about CCleaner but I know that with some other softwares support services if you send another then the automated queueing system will assume it's an addition to the original and will merge both together and send them to the back of the queue as one new request. It does that to avoid 'queue jumpers').
  11. First question - Were the deleted original files not in your recycle bin? (Are they in there still?) It isn't at all clear here just what you actually did. For example: "I first copied them ,,," - copied them from where? From you own hard drive to a different folder on the same drive, or to a different drive? Or maybe from the web to your HD? (Maybe from dropbox or similar?) Were you using File Explorer to copy the files, or some other app? Is your drive (either drive if you used more than one to copy) a HDD or SSD? What Windows version are you using? And then: Was that a pending Windows Update? Did it say pending download, or pending installation? Were you on a metered connection until you got home? (That is usually what causes an update to be 'pending'). If it was then it would have started downloading/installing as soon as you rebooted at home (on a non-metered connection), overwriting the disc space where the deleted data may have been. (Which is probably why Recuva then couldn't find it again after the update had finished downloading/installing). Finally: Can your friend not simply send them to you again?

  14. You do see that occasionally if/when the licence server or system is busy or is undergoing checks/maintenance. I know that there has been a glitch with the online 'Licence Lookup' service recently, so it may be maintenance related to fixing that. As it says there: Try again in a couple of hours and if it's still not accessible by this evening please let us know. In the meantime you can still use CCleaner in Free mode.

  16. Yes. Speccy has not had a functional update since 2018, so newer technology may not be recognised properly. (The update a few months ago was to do with licencing, not functions).
  17. So it's the old document that you have lost. Of course when writing something is as important as a book you should have been making (multiple) regular backups of you files on other, external, discs. Just in case something like this should happen, or the drive should fail, or ..... (I guess you'll be doing that from now). Was the drive that is was saved on a HDD or SSD? (There is little chance of recovering anything from a SSD except maybe the filename but no contents). But first things first, there are a few things to try before resorting to Recovery software. When you overwrote the file with the new one did Office create a backup of the old one? (it should have done unless you have deliberately turned backups off). Look in file explorer, it will have the same name but will be a .bak rather than a .doc or .docx. Of course if you have saved the new one more than once then the .bak will just be a version of the new one. If there is then rename it to something else and change the .bak extension back to .dox (or .doc) - Word will then be able to open it. If there isn't a .bak, or it's the new file, then try right clicking on the .doc/.docx and selecting "Restore previous versions". You should get something like this, and if you are lucky it will be the file that you are looking for. Note the date on this previous version of cake recipes, it's from last February (UK style dating). It did open in my word processor with no problem: If there are more then one then select and 'Open' them one at once to see if it is what you want, They will open in Word. If it is the file you want then save it with a new name. Another possible option: Do you have OneDrive turned on?   18. @B Jones As you are not using Avira then I have split your issue into it's own thread. (To avoid any confusion in that Avira thread). It does sound more as if yours is/was a file system corruption problem and reinstalling Windows 11 should have corrected any corrupted system files. There is also a possibility that it may be a fault with the hard drive, so I would suggest that you run the built in diagnostic tool CHKDSK. You may also want to double check the system files by running SFC, and maybe DISM. For safety you should make a backup of your files before runnning the diagnostics. This explains what each of these 3 diagnostic tools do, and gives a step-by-step if you are not familiar with them, it was written for Win 10 but they are the same in Win 11: https://www.makeuseof.com/difference-between-chkdsk-sfc-and-dism-in-windows-10/ Note that most such guides suggest running SFC first ,and only using DISM if you have to. As you have only just reinstalled Win 11 then DISM is probably not necessary. Many techies though always run DISM first to make sure that SFC is using a valid system image, of course doing it that way round does take longer.
  19. @B Jones Are you using Avira Free Security? - This thread is about a known issue with that particular antivirus app. EDIT - This is a different issue so has now been split to it's own thread. If you are not using Avira Free Security then you have a different issue, which will have a different solution. (from your screenshots it may be a user permissions error?) As said above the issue is known of executables becoming unusable if you use ANY cleaning utility (not just CCleaner) when you have installed installing or updated to to Avira Free Security Version 1.1.69.29688. It is not something that CCleaner or any other cleaning utility can fix - only Avira can fix it. If you are affected by it then you have 3 options: Make the folder "C:\Windows\Temp\sentry_temp" an exception in CCleaner or whatever other cleaning utility you are using so that folder doesn't get cleared. or: Stop using Avira (uninstall) it); at least till Avira fix the problem. or: Stop using any junk file cleaner until Avira fix the problem.
  20. To use the online licence lookup you have to give the same email address that you used when purchasing CCleaner. If you no longer have access to that email address then you will need to contact support and ask them to look your licence up for you. You can use any email adress to sent them an email to support@ccleaner.com If you can tell them what email that it was that you used when purchasing CCleaner then they can look it up easily for you. If you can't even remember what your old email was then they will need more details in order to find your original purchase.   21. OK then, let's do the update a different way. Go to this page and download the installer from there: https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/builds Your browser should ask you if you want to save it, click 'Save File' and that should put 'spsetup132.exe' into your 'Downloads' folder. (You can see from the screenshot below that I've just done it here about 8 minutes ago, I was checking if it was downloading as it should). Double-click on that downloaded setup file to install the new version, there's no need to uninstall the old one first it will just replace it. (I also reinstalled it here to check that too). You can delete the setup file from the Downloads folder, if you want to, once the new version of Speccy has been installed.
  22. I updated mine some time ago without any problem. What is happening when you click the 'Yes' button to install? If it's downloading 'spsetup132.exe' sucessfully then double click that downloaded file to do the actual install. PS. This update did not change anything functional in Speccy, it was all about licence keys.
  23. Yes, that is what I said above. When CCleaner is running at startup it is clearing those logins. Untick 'Session' for the browsers that you use and then you can still have CCleaner run at startup, but it will no longer clear the logins.
  24. When you say that you "lose some passwords" do you actually mean that you are logged out of some websites in your browser and have to log into them again? I assume that you are using Custom Clean, or have Smart Cleaning enabled. If you want to stop it logging you out of websites then untick 'Session' for the browser(s) that you use, eg.
