    You appear to be under the mistaken belief that I am an employee of Piriform/CCleaner.

    I am a user and my opinions are given as a user.

    Personally I don't care if anyone wants to use CCleaner or not.

    That's entirely your choice.

    I came here and remain here to try and help other users where I can with problems they may be having, not arguments about adverts.

  2. Try Irfanview and see if that will open them.
    Irfanview can often open damaged images that other viewers can't or won't open.

    Why do they waste their time complainging? just ignore it and move on, the same as with any other advertising.

    ALL PRODUCTS ADVERTISE, everything you own, everything you use, everything you eat or drink, it all has advertising.

    It's entirely your choice if you use a particuar product or not, and why.
    However you stop using every product that advertises, just because it advertises, then you are soon going to be cold and hungry.

    PS. Do you write a letter to the advertiser complaining about every piece of junk mail that comes to your house? Or every advert that you see on your TV? or even other advertising on your computer such as the stuff Microsoft bombards you with or the advertising in your browser.
    No, I thought not, just ignore ALL advertising and move on.

  4. If you have not had a trial or not activated Kamo before then I believe that you first have to go through the Kamo Tutorial and then enter the licence:

    Or have you done that and Kamo is still not accepting your licence key?
    If that's the case then does CCleaner itself accept the key?

    PS. Is there more than one key on your purchase confirmation email? (One for CCleaner and one for Kamo).
    I know that they used to have seperate keys for each, but thought they had now been combined to use the same key?

  5. If you look at the sizes of the 2 files then you can see that the "$" file is a tiny fraction of the size of the actual file. (0.006%).

    So obviously it cannot contain the contents of that file.

    A $ prefix usually indicates a temporary file that contains a record of changes made to a main file since that main file was opened.
    Once the file is saved again those changes get written to the main file, and a new $ file created for further changes.
    If no changes have been made then there is nothing to write.

    If you want more peace of mind then go ahead and recover that $Ben.docx so that you can open it and see exactly what it contains.

    If this files is as sensitive as you say to a works dispute then I have to ask if you really think it a good idea to have it or even access it on a works computer?
    If it's on your personal computer then your collegue has no right whatsover to access that, and you should not allow him to.

  7. Please describe what you are doing and seeing, any error messages, and so on.

    Also; what type of drive you are trying ro recover files from, (HDD, SSD, Flash Drive, SD card, etc) and why (deleted by mistake, drive crashed, something else).
    How are you connecting that drive to your machine, What operating system you are using.

    If any other user here can recognise your issue and help then they will.

    If it is a portable version then where did you download it from?

    PS. The dump files are pretty meaningless without a debugging tool to read them and the knowledge to interpret the results, which not everyone will have.

  8. You have replied to a 4-year old thread, if you have a problem then please start a new thread and describe clearly what you are doing and what you are seeing.

    Note that this is a USER forum where USERS help one another  - if/when we can.

    If a questioner isn't getting a response here that's because no other user knows how to help, or because the questioner has't given enough information for anyone to work out what might be going wrong for them.

    If you have paid for the Pro version of your software then you can contact the official support for help, you have paid for it after all.
    There again many do prefer getting help from other experienced users on here.

    Good to hear that the Slim worked, it often does. (Which is one reason why it's there as an alternative).

    However that does tend to indicate the something, probably ZoneAlarm, was blocking the Standard installer from contacting a server.
    Which in turn may mean that it will block some parts of CCleaner itself from working, or from working properly.
    If you see 'Unable to reach server' in Health Check, or 'It looks like you are offline' elsewhere within CCleaner, then that's often a sign of your firewall blocking a connection to one or more of the servers that it needs to check with.
    If that happens then check your firewall settings and allow the CCleaner (and Avast)  server connections through.

  10. It may be something in the new Windows install.

    I'm on my phone so going by memory here but there is a setting that will only let you install apps from the windows store.

    From Memory Settings>Apps>Choose where to get apps from. (Something like that).

  11. Transfering a licence to a new machine is simple:

    1. Install CCleaner Free version on the new machine,
    2. Register/Activate it as Pro using your existing licenence key, which can be found in CCleaner>Options>Licence Key on the 'old' machine.
    3. Uninstall CCleaner Pro from the old machine. (You can then install CCleaner Free on it if wanted).

    To cancel a subscription auto-renewal at the moment usually means contacting support and asking then to do it for you. *But see below.
    There was previously a button in CCleaner to let you do it yourself, but that has been removed for the moment while changes are being made to the account/licence system.

    *Users can't usually do it themselves currently because as said they are changing the system.

  12. It's a security fix for an exploit that's unlikely ever to affect a home user, (unlikely to ever affect anyone), so quietly dropping it may well be their chosen option.

    As with a lot of security 'issues' these days the fixes provided are overkill for the vast majority of users, but needed or not they get pushed to them all anyway.

    How has the security software industry managed to convince everyone that they need to have government/military level security on their home computers?
    It's paranoia running rampant, with millions being paid each year for levels of home computer security that just isn't needed.
    You should match your security measures to the actual (expected) level of threat.

  13. I've never known MalwareBytes to interfere with CCleaner installs.

    I'm not familiar with ZoneAlarm though, and wonder if that may be stopping the installer  from reaching a server it wants/needs to?
    (eg. among other things the installer will check if you already have a valid licenced CCleaner installed).

    I'd try doing the CCleaner install using the 'Slim' installer, 3rd one down here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
    It installs the same CCleaner, it's just a slightly different installer which doesn't contact the same servers so can sometimes get through firewalls that are blocking the Standard installer.

    If that still doesn't work then I'd try doing the CCleaner install while offline, or temporarily disabling ZoneAlarm to see if that is the issue.
    If it is then you'll need to make CCleaner an exception in ZoneAlarm.

    Many of us are active on various fora, you'll often see the same usernames popping up on various ones.

    Beeping just happens to be one of those others where I also hang out and help when I can. I do read most requests for help over there.

    So I would have seen your post there anyway, and would probably have commented there if I hadn't seen your post here first.

  15. Pity, I thought that clicking it - the small blue text not the big button - might still work to defer them.
    (It's done by changing a registry key value, probably not worth digging about manually in the registry though).

    As there are less than 90 days left on your current licence then if you renew/upgrade it using the same email address as when you first purchased (or upgrade to Premium using that offer) that time remaining will get added to the renewed/upgraded licence.
    So there's no reason to wait for time remaining to run down, I do realise that there may be other reasons for waiting.

  16. That's not something I've heard suggested before, I'm not sure just how that user thinks that CCleaner could change that behaviour for one single app anyway.

    It's much simpler than that - Outlook itself is overriding your default browser setting and using Edge,
    That's the kind of thing that Microsoft does, M$ want you to use their own apps and not others.

    This particular one with Outlook always using Edge is known, and easily fixable,

    There is a setting in Outlook to change whether it uses Edge or your default browser, you need to change the Outlook Link Handling settings.

    Note that on occasion an update to Outlook (or to Windows) can/will change that setting back to use Edge, that's another annoying thing that M$ does in some updates.
    If/when that happens then you simply change it back to your default browser again.

    EDIT- I've just seen your thread over on Bleeepingcomputer.
    I see that JohnC_21 has made the same suggestion about simply changing the Outlook setting.
    Pkshadow is an very experienced helper but for some reason seems to have (wrongly) jumped to the conclusion there that you had used CCleaner's Registry Cleaner, as you hadn't even mentioned CCleaner then why he jumped to that conclusion I have no Idea?
    A broken registry would not show just the issues you described with outlook/browser, there would be bigger problems if you had broken the registry.
    (TBH I don't think that he knows CCleaner very well but just doesn't like any registry cleaners, neither do I. Reg Cleaning is an advanced tool for trying to fix things, in general you should leave the Reg Cleaner in CCleaner alone it isn't a cleaning tool).

    it looks like someone has changed the button text and replaced the clickable 'Ask me later' with a pretty unnecessary text about pricing options.

    Myself I'd try clicking it anyway, it might still be linked and still defer the popups if/when clicked.
    ie. if you click that 'Pricing options .....' text and the popup closes then it's probably deferred future popups for a while.

    It wouldn't be the first time that a clickable text has been altered but still does the same thing if/when clicked.

    We know that there are different ones and that they change, so it's always good to see what's current.

    As for the rest, the regulars here have been using CCleaner for years and answering questions here for years  So it's not that surprising when we have more experience of such things than support does.

    My approach for any software is "Support is for purchase/licencing issues, the experience on the user forum is first stop for any other questions".

    You asked about one kind of popup (the reminder notifications in the bottom right corner) and he replied about a different kind of popup (the Smart Cleaning popups in the same place).

    Annoying.
    Lack of training, or lazy/busy and just saw 'popup' so gave the most common stock answer, or who knows?

    You will never completely stop those renewal reminder popups (until you do renew) but they shouldn't keep coming back so often once you have dismissed them.

    How are you closing them? Are you just closing them with the X at the top (if there is one)?

    There should be a highlighted text in them to click, I can't remember just what it says for the renewal one, something like "Remind me later" and clicking that should put a stop on it reappearing for a week or so.
    It is easy to miss it though, it's just highlighted text and not a clear button.

  20. Both those responses were simply agreeing with you, it's forum shorthand.
    So they are relevant to your subject, they agree with it.

    When you raise a ticket you get an automated response email, and that does also include 'generic' suggestions/fixes for some of the most commonly seen issues.
    Of course that's just a stock form, sent out automatically by a computer before any person has even seen that you have raised a ticket.
    Many/most software supports do that. If those stock suggestions do not apply to your issue then you simply ignore them and wait for a response from a human.

    Is that what you are talking about here, just that automated reply?

    A real person should contact you later, after having had chance to read your ticket.
    That has in the past few months been taking a long time to happen, up to a week or more, - although response times do seem to have fallen again to the more usual couple of hours for a person to respond.

    Note that if you don't raise your ticket from the email used when purchasing CCleaner then any reply from a real person will take longer.
    The queueing system recognises that purchase email addres as one that has a valid account/licence, and so has paid for support.*

    *Those who are not automatically identified as having paid for support are put at the back of the queue for any support requests.
    So if/when emailing from a different address then the system won't recognise it, so won't recognise you as a paying customer. You should still provide the emailthat you used when purchasing, so that when a support person does get round to your request they can find your account.

  21. If it's a newer licence and says 3 devices (not an older licence that was 3 PCs) then yes the same licence can be used on PC, and/or Mac, and/or Android devices at the same time.

    Simply install the CCleaner Free version for the device type and then enter your licence key to activate it as CCleaner Pro.

    When you open CCleaner and you are online them it will check with the server if you have a (valid) licence, if your licence is up to date, when it's due to expire, and so on.

    The task that runs everyday (at 9PM in your case. it's a different time for everybody) is the crash reporter.
    It opens on a (daily) schedule and checks if there are any CCleaner error reports/logs to send, if there aren't any then it doesn't send anything. I have confirmed that to my own satisfaction.
    It can be annoying because it briefly flashes a command window on screen, on/off too quick to read it and see what it is.
    You can go into Windows Task Scheduler and change the time it runs - I sugest that you set it to run at startup and that way you'll not notice it.
    (If you simply disable it in Task Scheduler then it will get re-enabled next time you update or re-install CCleaner).

    I'm not sure just which popups you mean, there's more than one type.
    Popups may be notifications from Smart Cleaning - disable Smart cleaning to stop them. (or in CCleaner Pro change the Smart Cleaning options).
    Or they could be advertising popups about offers on purchasing CCleaner Pro - that's the price you pay for running the Free version of most software that has a paid version too. (The way to stop those is pretty obvious, buy Pro).

    Why it would be updating automatically if you have turned that off I don't know, but check that it hasn't been turned on again.
