  1. Windows 10 'Storage Spaces' are neither SSD or HDD. (or could be both, depending on how you want to look at it).

They are logical/virtual drives that are 'pooled' across several physical drives.
The physical drives in the 'pool' could be a mix of different types of drive, and of different formats - so because of that the 'Storage Space' cannot normally be defragmented.

  2. That sounds fine then.

You may want to try one of those checking sites anyway. (TBH the same experts can be found working on more than one of them).
Whilst primaraliy set up to help clear malware they will also take a good look that finds other problems as well.
They don't remotely access your computer, they ask you to run certain things and collect logs that they then analyze for problems and tell you how to fix any they find.
(Occasionally if there are a lot, or awkward, fixes they will write a script to do it for you).

  3. You can simply reregister your CCleaner.

Go to Options>about and click on "Upgrade to Pro"
Enter your registered name and licence key
    Click on "Register"

Você pode simplesmente registrar novamente seu CCleaner.

Vá para Opções> sobre e clique em "Atualizar para Pro"
Insira seu nome registrado e chave de licença
    Clique em "Registrar"

  4. Just to be certain, was this Microsoft themselves?

Or was it a company claiming to be 'Microsoft Technicians'?

Without wanting to be unnecessarily worrying there are a lot of 'Tech Support' scamers advertising on the internet.
Most scammers just want money, but some will keep taking more once they have your card number, the worst will even install malware on your machine.
If you give one of these scammers remote access to your computer then they can install anything that they want on there; and trick your antivirus into ignoring it.
(It may be innocent, but I particularly don't like the idea that they changed the BIOS).

As someone has remotely accessed your computer then if your computer starts to show any odd behaviours, (well more than already does), I would definitely get it checked over for possible malware.
We can't do that here but section 10 of the forum rules gives you sites you can trust and who will check your computer for free. (They may even find the answer to your original problem).
    https://community.ccleaner.com/announcement/15-forum-rules%20/

PS. If you paid them with a credit/debit card then also keep an eye on the account for unauthorised debits.

  5. The time remaining on the old licence should be automatically be added to the new one, - but it is an automated process and so may it take a few days (up to 15 days) for that to show on your CCleaner>About>Llicence Information page.

    https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039530092-Will-I-lose-any-time-on-my-subscription-if-I-take-an-offer-to-renew-early-

There are also a few reasons why this automatic pocess might not happen, -

    • if you bought a new/different licence key,
    • if you updated from Pro to ProPlus. (Which would be a different licence).
    • if you used a different email address,
    • if there were more than 90 days left on the old licence.

In which case you should email support@ccleaner.com to get the licences merged manually so that the new one starts when the old on ends.

Annoying, but it has always fixed itself in a few days...

If it was CCleaner (or any other app that you have installed) causing the problem then it would keep causing the problem, it wouldn't suddenly stop causing it after a few days.
(Unless the offending app also got an update after a few days).

Like DaveCCleaner I suspect that the MS tech couldn't find the real cause and so was clutching at straws / blaming something else.

There are a multitude of things that can cause the error message 'Page fault in nonpaged area'.

As you say it happens following a Windows update, and that it does usually fix itself then I'd suspect it's a driver error (probably a dedicated Dell driver), and that the driver usually updates itself a few days after the Windows update.
(Microsoft updates are known for installling generic drivers and overwriting the manufacturers driver. NVIDIA is another set of drivers they  often mess up).

    Other possibilities:
Have you changed the pagefile size at sometime in the past? That can sometimes cause paging faults.
A hard drive that is having problems, or even getting close to failing , can also be the cause.
Or it could be faulty or failing RAM.

Here are a few things to try, I'd do them in the order listed:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/how-to-fix-page-fault-error-windows-10,36234.html

  7. No, I said you could roll back - I didn't say that you should do that, and warned against doing it.

Whilst the dryer comparison may have been a bit extreme it was meant to be - Manufacturers issue warnings, or in this case temporarily withdraw a feature, for good reason.

You have been told why WFS has been temporarily withdrawn.

When you asked, you have been told what you could do if you want to keep using it - but that it's probably unsafe to do so.

What you choose to do with that information is entirely your own choice, at your own risk.

Until we know more about when WFS may be re-enabled there is nothing more to discuss.

  8. That's a bit like being told by the manufacturer that your tumble dryer is unsafe, (because others of that model have caught fire), and you should stop using it until fixed but ignoring that warning saying 'I've been using my tumble dryer for 3 years and never had a problem', and continuing to use it anyway.

I would not feel comfortable giving a link to a version that is known to have a possible problem serious enough to have had the problem feature temporarily withdrawn.
As said above such an action is not taken on a whim, there is a good reason why WFS has been temporarily disabled.
If you realy want to roll back a version then you should be able to find one from a web search - but it's entirely at your own risk.

  9. You could install v5.77 again - and use WFS at your own risk.

But why would you want to risk using a feature that has been temporarily withdrawn for safety because of a known bug?

As you can imagine such a decision to (temporarily) disable an option is not taken lightly and would only be done if really needed.

Safer to wait until the bug has been fixed and the WFS option is re-enabled.

  10. For information:

The mods read all posts and will take down anything that is against forum rules, or vexatious, pretty quickly.

If a problem post is not removed (give the mods a few of hours, we are not here 24/7) the users can report a post themselves by clicking on the three-dots in the top right corner of the post and then clicking 'Report' - that flags a notification to the moderators.
Use it sparingly, give the mods time to do their job.

  11. This is a user forum, not official support, so the speed of replies depends if someone who knows an answer logs on and sees your post or not.

If you would prefer to raise an official support ticket you can contact official support by emailing them at support@ccleaner.com Use the same email address you used when purchasing CCleaner.
(I have already flagged your issue to the staff, but that's not the same as an individual support ticket).

You new screenshot shows a different error code from the one you first reported: error code 1638.
Again though, that particular 1638 code says that you are trying to install something that is already installed.

Have you been to the Audacity website and made sure that your Audacity is up to date?
(Although TBH I don't think this is to do with updating Audacity).

As for the hourly frequency: CCleaner's Scheduling cannot be set to run on an hourly schedule.
From your Reliability Monitor it looks like Windows itself is trying to reconfigure the updater every hour for some reason.
(There's also an outside chance that something else is trying to alter/hijack the updater).

In your shoes I would uninstall CCleaner, Restart your computer (Restart not Shutdown), run a scan with Windows Defender and/or your own antivirus (just to rule out any nasties), and then reinstall CCleaner.
See if that cures the issue.

  12. Duplicate threads merged.

It may just be because it's a new version.
It can sometimes take Windows Defender, (and other AV's), a couple of days to recognise the new version.
I don't know if it has any relevence but I note your 20H2 build is higher than mine, I have 20H2 build 19042.867 and have no probems installing or running CCleaner.

    Are you installing from scratch?

From what you describe with the blank page it sounds as if you are using the 'Standard' installer, and it's unable to reach a server it needs to so can't load/show that page.

Try downloading the 'Slim' installer from here (it's the third one down) and once it's downloaded double click it to install CCleaner.
(The Slim Installer skips that particular page and doesn't try to reach that particular server).

  13. You can't stop Health Check doing that, it uses it's own cleaning rules that you can't change.

Instead you have to use Custom Clean which lets you have more choice over what is cleaned or not.

For what you want in Firefox you would untick 'Internet History' and 'Session' in the Firefox section, when unticked  Custom Clean will leave them alone.
(It's 'Session' that keeps your current logins).
Note that those settings have no effect on Health Check which will still do it's own thing and still clear the history and logins if you use it.
    image.png

To set Custom Clean as the default you see whenever you open CCleaner go to Options>Settings>CCleaner home screen

  14. Sorry I may have misunderstood , did you mean that when you "Check for Updates" you are seeing this?

    image.png

It appears to be a bug and it's sometimes showing that when instead it should say that you already have the latest version.

What version is your CCleaner? It tells you top left.
If it's 5.78.8558 then you are up to date.

If it's still 5.77 then you could try Closing CCleaner and waiting a minute, then reopen CCleaner and check for updates again.

  15. What you describe is usually caused by your antivirus or firewall settings blocking the install.

Try  downloading the Slim installer 'ccsetup578_slim.exe' from the builds page:
    https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Once downloaded double click it to install.

(If it still doesn't install then try disconnecting from the internet and then double clicking it again. Note that if that works it indicates that something AV/firewall is blocking it and may also block some of the standard CCleaner tools/options).

  16. You don't have to pay for updates.
You only pay if you have CCleaner Free and you want to upgrade from Free to Pro.

Just open CCleaner and click on 'Check for Updates' and then 'Update Now' - and CCleaner will update itself to the latest version.
Even easier is to go to Options>Updates and set it to update automatically whenever there's a new version, or turn it on using the switch in the screenshot below.
(PS. Speccy hasn't had a new version for a while now).

    image.png

  17. I'm not sure why twice an hour but that doesn't sound like CCleaner at all.

Do you have any other Software Updater or Driver Updater installed?

Can you post a screenshot of the  message? That may help tell us where it is coming from.
I know that you say it's from Windows "Security and Maintenance" but there may be something else there in a screenshot that gives another clue.

Have you been to the Audicity website and tried updating from there?

  18. If your licence is still valid then the 'form' where you enter it is in CCleaner itself, Options>About>Upgrade to Pro.

See this article for how to register CCleaner:
    https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional#what-do-i-need-to-have-to-register--0-2

If you mean that you can't remember what your registered name and/or licence key is then you need this page (and yes it could be easier to find):
    https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup

To use the licence lookup you do need to use the email address that you used when you bought the licence, and the licence will be reconfirmed to that email address.
If you cannot access that email address anymore then you will need to contact support from your new email address and tell them what that old email was.
You can email support at - support@ccleaner.com
