  1. Nope, my gif and username simply reflect that I used to work in the nuclear industry. (There were some things about that work that were secret, but most of it was just routine). PS. They are not actually our bosses, all the mods here are simply trusted users who get 'invited' to do a bit more and we do it for no pay. Piriform/Avast employees can be identified as they all have 'CCleaner' in their username and use the CCleaner logo as their avatar.
  2. No problem, but please re-register with a more appropriate username.
  3. You don't normally have to reboot for a CCleaner update to install. Still not sure just what is going on for you, it's not ususal, but as it installed during a reboot it could be something to do with your antivirus or firewall settings? (Just guessing). Good to hear that it's now updated.
  4. This is normal and is how a computer works - Some files come back straight after you have cleaned them. (But are now empty). So if you go again they will be found to clean again. (even though they are already empty). For an explanation of why that happens, and what you can do to stop some of it, see the second half of this: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files-not-cleaned-or-coming-back-solvedexplained/?tab=comments#comment-300043
  5. Health Check does have two aspects that Custom Clean doesn't do automatically, they are availaible seperately in the Tools menu though. In Health Check they are called 'Speed' and 'Security' and they run every time you run HC. If you are using Custom Clean then they don't run unless you run them seperately from the Tools menu , where they are called 'Startup' and 'Software Updater' respectively. I personally don't see the need for them running every time (especially Speed/Startup) and think that it's a waste of time having them run each time you run Health Check. (I'd go back to the older 'Easy Clean/Quick Clean' which didn't include them). PS. Whatever made you think that moderators don't get frustrated answering the same questions again and again? Of course we do, we are human, but we get appointed moderators firstly because we like helping others - so we answer politely and we (usually) keep our grumbles to ourselves. We also grumble and criticise changes to CCleaner and the other Piriform software if we don't like the changes that are made. (And you should see some of those grumbles them in 'Private/Staff' sub-forum, you get the same on any forum but kept private from the general members).

    Schoked

On behalf of forum users everywhere can I say thank you for that post. We all make mistakes from time to time but it is rare on a forum to see people admit that they may have made a mistake.
  7. Go into Options > Smart Cleaning and the automatic browser cleaning section. You can click on the down arrow for each browser and change the settings for each browser. If you want the browser cleaned on closing but don't want a message about it then change it to 'Automatically clean on closing without notification' for that browser. You can have it set differently for different browsers.
  8. The icon in the System Tray can be put there by Windows for two reasons: If you are using Smart Cleaning It you have CCleaner set to update automatically. It may also be put there if you have 'Minimise to system Tray' set in Options>Advanced; but that's really for old Windiws versions (Vista/XP). Running at startup just runs a clean when you turn on your computer, it doesn't leave an icon in the System Tray but you may see a flashing icon there for a few seconds. If you want a CCleaner icon that you can click quickly then I suggest that you 'Pin' CCleaner to the taskbar. In File Explorer go to 'C:\Program Files\CCleaner and right-click on CCleaner64.exe In the menu that pops up select 'Pin to Taskbar' and you will get an icon like this that will launch CCleaner with just one click: PS. Could you please re-register with a different username if you want to make posts in future. I'm sure that you are not trying to pretend to be a moderator, but it may confuse others.
  9. Health Check uses it's own cleaning rules and you cannot change them. It is set to clean what most people want, - But of course you may want something different and that's what Custom Clean is for. The ticks/unticks only apply to Custom Clean. - As the name says Custom Clean it is customisable to give you more control over what is cleaned or not cleaned. Health Check always does it's own thing and ignores any ticks/unticks. So if you don't want Firefox history cleaned then you have to untick it in Custom Clean and then only use Custom Clean not Health Check. You can change which one CCleaner shows you when you open it by going to Options>Settings and changing the CCleaner Home Screen.
  10. Technicaly it is correct because the full name is/was "tracking cookies". But the 'tracking' was dropped in general usage long ago, because it gives the wrong impression.
  11. Can you explain more what problems you are having? Where did you purchase CCleaner from, have you had a confirmation email of your purchase? Please don't post any specific reference or licence numbers, or any pesonal details, on this open forum - sombody could steal them.
  12. The moderators here agree that the wording used in Health Check leaves a lot to be desired, some of it is infantile and some of it exaggerated, and we have been quite vocal about it in the 'staff' forum. In the end though we mods are only trusted users not company employees. For myself, I particularly don't like that Health Check calls cookies and Internet History 'Trackers', giving the false impression to some that something malicious may be following their every keystroke.
  13. OK, still not sure why it's not working for you. Just to check- v5.79.8704 is the latest version, which version do you currently have? If you have an older version you are clicking on 'Check for updates' in the bottom right corner? But no worries, there are other ways to update. Download the 'Slim' installer from here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Once downloaded double click ccsetup579_slim.exe to install CCleaner v5.79.8704. It should pick up your currently registered Pro licence automatically. If for some reason it doesn't then go to Otions>About and 'Upgrade to Pro' by entering your registered name and licence as asked and then clicking on 'Register'. (So you may want to make a note of them before updating - Options>aAbout>License Information). You don't have to pay for updates if you already have a current license.
  14. Not sure why you saw that, it just worked OK for me here. Could you try again; it may have just been a glitch in your connection. Come back if it's still being a problem.
  15. There is something Chrome related still running in the background. This link is specific to CCleaner and Chrome running in the background: https://silicophilic.com/ccleaner-not-cleaning-google-chrome/ EDIT- Oops Hazelnut beat me to it.

  17. Is your C drive a Solid State Drive (SSD)? If it is then you should use the 'Optimize' option of defraggler which is designed for SSDs, rather than 'Defrag' which is designed for HDDs. From the support article on the different types of defragmenting and optimizing: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/defraggler/technical-information/defraggler-and-ssds It's an old debate as to whether SSD's should be defragged or not. And the answer is: Generally not. (But there are exceptions). SSD's don't realy need defragmenting, certainly not as much as a spinning disc HDD. Because of the way that they work it doesn't (usually) matter if an SSD is fragmented, it will still be read from just as quickly as if it wasn't fragmented. I won't get all technical, there's plenty of that online about the difference between SDD and HDD if you want technicals. SSD's have a limit on the number of times that data can be written to them. (There again even HDD's have a 'lifetime' before they wear out, but that's much longer than early SSD's). With early SSD's those limits were relatively low, and people were less aware of the differences between HDDs and SSDs. So the advice then was to never defragment them, to avoid 'using them up' unecessarily. Newer SSD's have much higher 'lifetime' limits, and so an ocassional defrag would not have the same impact on lifetime. (It's much the same reason why you shouldn't use Secure Deletion on an SSD, and shouldn't wipe the free space - to avoid unecessary overwrites. They are not needed on SSD's anyway). If you have Windows 10 then that will do a very occasional 'inteligent defragment' of an SSD, as and when needed. So I'd just 'Optimise' an SSD, if you want to, (or just leave it alone), and let Windows defragment it if/when needed.
  18. Other things you could try: Have you tried searching your hard drive for the photos? Depending on how you transferred them they may have been put in a folder you didn't expect. Do you have your Android phone synced? If so there should still be a copy of the deleted files in the the sync trash bin. This tells you how to recover files from there: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128858?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
  19. Did you read the posts above ? (Particularly the posts by Sandra and Jenny). PS. Please also read number 15 of the forum rules: https://community.ccleaner.com/announcement/15-forum-rules /
  20. With the Pro-plus package you do need to download each of the applications seperately, and register each one using the same key. It's done that way so that you can pick if you want to download/register just a couple or all of them. You need to ignore all the marketing information, simply download the free versions and then use the key you have purchased to register each one. To avoid all the marketing information you can download the installers for each one from these simple pages: CCleaner: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds Defraggler: https://www.ccleaner.com/defraggler/builds Recuva: https://www.ccleaner.com/Recuva/builds Speccy: https://www.ccleaner.com/Speccy/builds Once downloaded and installed you go to 'Options>About' or 'Help>About' and click on 'Upgrade to Pro', enter your registered name/key, and then click 'Register'.
  21. You can already do that by saving the results of the Duplicate Finder search to a text file. However it is not possible to run the Duplicate Finder from the command line, it must be run from within CCleaner.
  22. CCleaner's cleaning functions are fine to use with SSD's. With the caveat that you shouldn't need to use 'Secure file deletion'. Only use 'Normal file deletion'. Secure deletion is not needed on a SSD, and just gives unnecessary overwrites. Also avoid 'Drive Wiper' and 'Wipe Free Space' (which is temporarily disabled anyway while a potential issue is investigated), again they are not needed with a SSD and would just give unnecessary overwrites. Not SSD related, but if you have Windows 10 then I wouldn't use the registry cleaner either. It can cause problems with Win 10.
  23. How are you trying to renew? How long is left on your current licence? Do you have a subscription? If you have a subscription then it will renew automatically, you can mange that from within CCleaner itself: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020674812-How-do-I-manage-my-CCleaner-subscription-#how-do-i-manage-my-ccleaner-subscription--0-0 If you don't have a subscription then you should get a reminder to renew shortly before your current licence expires: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045224272-Can-I-renew-CCleaner-early- If you are still having trouble then each of those webpages contains a contact link for the support team, or you can send them an email to support@ccleaner.com
  24. Did you not see the big red banner at the top of this page, and every page of the CCleaner forum?
  25. And now Edge Chromium is also rejecting/disabling Google's FLoC (for now at least). https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-disables-googles-floc-tracking-in-microsoft-edge-for-now/
