  1. Can you screenshot (or list with full pathname) what Registry Cleaner is finding?
That will let us see if they are a concern or not.

What Windows version and build are you running?
    (Is it an insider build?).

There is currently one know entry that always comes back:
    'LocalServer32\C:\Windows\SysWOW\Speech_OneCore\Common\SpeechRuntime.exe'
That is needed by Windows and so will always be recreated if you delete it.
You can right-click on it and "Add to exclude list" if you don't want to see it again.

There may be others depending upon your Windows version/build.

As the Windows 10 Spring Update (20H1) is almost here then Windows will be adding things to your registry and elsewhere in preparation for that update.

PS. We don't recommend regular use of the Registry Cleaner with Windows 10.
Registry cleaning is not needed unless you have a specific problem, it's an avdanced tool.
Unlike older Windows versions the Windows 10 registry updates/changes frequently.

  2. First thing to do in a situation like that is to Restart your computer, (not Shutdown but Restart, they do different things), and then try again.
(A Restart clears things out of memory, the kernel, etc. and gives Windows a fresh launch - a Shutdown 'hibernates' them and puts them back when you reboot).

Or it could just have been a temporary glitch somewhere on the internet route between your computer and the download server.

Or it could be caused by your Antivirus or firewall settings blocking the download/install, but as you had already downloaded/installed it before that's less likely unless those settings have changed since last time you installed.
Which is possible, AV's do update themselves. (and people do sometimes tinker with their AV settings or with firewalls).

  3. You don't need to tinker with the registry, that's just one method of doing it.

Although I am fairly comfortable in the registry I wouldn't do it that way myself - I'd just use the winapp2.ini, or modify the CCleaner.ini.

The advantage of using the winapp2 is that it is maintained by those who are familiar with it's syntax and use; and so if there are any future changes to Waterfox, or any other app that it covers, then it will be updated to reflect those changes.

  4. It sounds that something may be blocking one or more internet connections that CCleaner needs to make for one (or both) of those modules, which is why Health Check can't complete.
Startup is HC's 'Speed' module and Software Updater is HC's 'Privacy' module.

Did Startup and Software Updater work when you were connected to the internet?
In particular does Software Updater find anything to be updated?
If it's finding something then it may be that particular app update that is causing your issue.

If it isn't finding anything to update then unless you have changed your firewall rules then it's probably Malwarebytes Pro doing the block.

However Malwarebytes doesn't usually block CCleaner, and I haven't seen any recent reports of it doing so either here or at the Malwarebytes forum.
Is your CCleaner installed at the standard location, "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\"?

Possibly Malwarebytes could be blocking the update/install of something that Software Updater/'Security' is finding, which is why I asked if Software Updater is finding anything to update.
If Software Updater, when connected to the internet, isn't finding anything then:

Try making CCleaner an exception in Malwarebytes.
    To do that:

    • Open Malwarebytes and click on either the settings cogwheel or the Detection History card.
    • Select Allow list>Add>Allow an application to connect to the internet.
    • Browse to your CCleaner folder, and add 'CCleaner64.exe', and 'CCupdate.exe' to the Malwarebytes Allow list.
(You could also add 'CCleaner.exe' but as you are on 64-bit that's probably not necessary).

See this Malwarbytes article about the Allow list:
    https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038479234-Add-to-the-Allow-List-in-Malwarebytes-for-Windows

If that doesn't let Health Check work then it shows that something else is going on.

PS. If you look in the Malwarbytes Detection History>History it should show you if it detected/blocked anything.

  5. According to Facebook's statements they weren't 'Hacked' they were only 'Scraped'.
    (So that's alright then rofl.gif)
    https://about.fb.com/news/2021/04/facts-on-news-reports-about-facebook-data/

The average user is not going to be bothered about such technical semantics/jargon - Face-ache let someone steal their email addresses and telephone numbers and other data.

    Some reaction:
    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/facebook-attributes-533-million-users-data-leak-to-scraping-not-hacking/

    Quote

Not all experts happy with the response

While Facebook attributes this data leak to web scraping, this usually involves collecting public information from websites.

In this case, attackers used a weakness in the Facebook 'Contact Importer' feature to mass query private phone numbers and then scrape associated public information that was returned by the tool.

  6. As this is the business edition the solution is going to be beyond this user forum.

I suspect though that it's something in your company's security setup/ firewalls that is blocking CCleaner from working properly. (Most probably Crowdstrike).
Which is why it could work in Safe Mode, because the company filters would not be active there.

It probably just needs a few settings changed in your company security/firewalls as installed on your computer to allow CCleaner through.

If CCleaner is approved for purchase/installation by your SW procurement team then I should have thought they would be aware of this, have you tried contacting them again?

You can contact the CCleaner support team by email on support@ccleaner.com

  7. What you are seeing with things coming back after cleaning is entirely normal, it's simply the way your computer works.

See the link in my signature below this post for a fuller explantion why that happens. (and how you can stop some of it if you want to).

If you can't see my signature for some reason then this is the link:
    https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files-not-cleaned-or-coming-back-solvedexplained/?tab=comments#comment-300043

PS. the Pro version does not clean any differently from Free version.
What the Pro gives you is extra tools such as Scheduling, more Smart Cleaning options, cleaning of startup items (Health Checks 'Speed'), software updating (Health Checks 'Security'), cleaning of multiple user profiles, etc.
It also gives you technical support from Piriform if needed. (We can't answer everything here on the user forum).

As your trial has expired you should be able to see what all these 'Pro' extras are as they will now have a red 'Pro' next to them, and/or be unselectable. (the two Health Check Pro modules will be greyed out).
    eg.
    image.png

TBH I was quite happy using the Free version for years.
(I now have Pro because I'm a moderator here, so occasionally need to check the Pro features to answer questions).

  8. If Custom Clean is still working then I suspect that it's either the 'Speed' or 'Security' modules of Health Check that are causing what you are seeing.

Both of those need to contact servers, and so it may be that your computer is now blocking that contact.
Which would probably be your Antivirus/firewall settings if CCleaner is also being closed altogether.
Although Windows Defender is not known for doing that.

Is your Malwarebytes the Pro version running in real time? What version is it?

Try disconnecting from the internet and then running Health Check, if it runs OK then that shows that it's (one of) the connection(s) that is the problem.
Connect back to the internet and in CCleaner try running Tools>Startup and then Tools>Software Updater - do both of those run OK with the internet connected or does one of them crash?

Then if your Malwarebytes is real time try temporarily disabling Malwarbytes and see if Health Check runs then.

    For more information:

    Quote

It loads partially, stalls and crashes.

Can you explain more just how far it gets before it stalls and crashes?
ie. is it during the Checking, during the Clean, or somewhere else?

  9. 12 hours ago, DIMOJABE said:

I am posting this because there was a Google promo in the last download.  At least Piriform didn't make me un-click an automatic download like Adobe.  But I was really unhappy to see that Piriform is that integrated into Google directly.

CCleaner is not 'integrated' into Google, neither is any other Piriform product.

What you saw is simply an advert/offer for Google Chrome that is included in the Standard installer.
At other times the installer will advertise/offer different things, there are 4 or 5 different products advertised/offered on a random basis.
If someone downloads/installs one of those offers then Piriform gets paid a little bit.

As you see with Adobe it's fairly standard practice and many use such adverts/offers as a way of making a little bit of money, (to help fund free software), although they should make it a clear choice.

That doesn't mean that they are in any affiliated with whatever they are advertising/offering.
Although they do often offer their own, paid for, products. (eg. Piriform is part of Avast so the installer will advertise/offer other Avast products).

  10. Waterfox browser is not on the cleaning lists by default, but you can add it to Custom Clean in a couple of different ways.
(It can't be added to Health Check, what Health Check cleans is fixed).

    The easiest way:
The user developed/supported 'Winapp2.ini' add-on includes cleaning for Waterfox, - as well as other Mozilla based browsers (Pale Moon,Sea Monkey, etc) plus other browsers and apps that are not included in CCleaner as default.
    https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/32310-winapp2ini-additions/

    Alternatively :
    Y
ou could set the required pathnames yourself by modifying your 'CCleaner.ini', see the following article about cleaning Mozilla based  browsers,
    https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/advanced-usage/ccleaner-ini-files/how-to-clean-user-data-from-non-standard-mozilla-browsers
and this thread about Waterfox in particular (note that it's a bit old and so things may have changed).
    https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/49017-cleaning-waterfox-profile-historycache-with-ccleaner-win-7/?tab=comments#comment-287518

A third option is to work out the paths where Waterfox is storing it's caches etc, and add those paths (or selected files from those paths) as 'Includes' in Custom Clean. But that would not give any boxes to tick/untick, and instead you would need to tick 'Custom Files and Folders' under 'Windows>Advanced' in Custom Clean.

  11. Winapp2 is pretty comprehensive and includes cleaning rules for a lot of applications that will not even be on your computer.

You should use winapp2's 'Trim' module to remove the rules for apps that you don't actually have on your machine.
If you don't trim winapp2 to only the apps that you have installed then you have a lot of unneeded cleaning rules that will simply slow CCleaner down.

(Is that why you were asking in another post about selecting/unselecting all entries in a category?)

If you need help with using winapp2 then there is a dedicated thread here:
    https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/32310-winapp2ini-additions/?tab=comments#comment-175835

  12. Presumably you saw a pop-up offer for a discounted renewal price?

Did you use the link in that pop-up offer, or did you close it and then purchase from the main website?
Renewal pop-up offers like that have a special link which you have to use to get the different price from the main website.

If you did use the link in the pop-up then another thing to consider is if you also got a reduced price last year?
In which case the renewal discount from standard price will be about the same this year, so the renewal price including discount from the standard price will be about the same.

If you contact support by emailing them on support@ccleaner.com from the address that you used to purchase your renewal they can check your transaction and if what you paid is what you should have paid.

Note that the support are working over the Easter break but with reduced staff, so it may takea bit longer to get an answer.

  13. If you want to see an icon in the System Tray but don't want Smart Cleaning running then selecting OPtions>Updates> "Keep Ccleaner updated automatically" will also put the icon there.
That also runs in the background and checks every 12 hours to see if there is a new version of CCleaner.

TBH though it sounds like using  'Pin to taskbar' to put an icon on the taskbar so you can launch CCleaner with a single click is more what you are looking for.

  14. If you are meaning "Launch the CCleaner app each time the computer starts" then what that does is run a clean when you start the computer and then close itself, it doesn't stay running.

You will briefly see a flashing CCleaner icon in the System Tray while it is cleaning, but it's only there for seconds so you could miss it.

What is it that you want CCleaner to be doing in the background?

If you want it to monitor for junk building up, or to automatically clean a browser when you close it, then that's Smart Cleaning.
(Smart Cleaning will put an icon in the System Tray whils it is running in the background).

PS. "Minimise to system tray" is a legacy command for old Windows versions where you couldn't pin things to the taskbar. (And you need to open CCleaner and miminise it's interface).
With Windows 10 you should simply pin CCleaner to the Taskbar if you want to access it quickly with just one click.

  15. Which version/build of Win 10 are you running?
And which antivirus (and version if it's not Windows Defender)?

Are you doing anything in particular when CCleaner/other apps get uninstalled?

What other apps are being uninstalled?

Windows itself will sometimes uninstall incompatible apps, and will remove older CCleaner versions, but it shouldn't have a problem with the latest CCleaner.
(Unless maybe if you are on an insider build).

Your anti-virus may also be uninstalling, or quarantining, things that it wrongly sees as threats.
(Or there is a slight possibility that you have a malware infection that your AV hasn't picked up).

  16. Sounds like it was Startup Boost causing what you were seeinhg then.

For the Smart Cleaning notifiction I would try changing it to one of the other Smart Cleaning options and closing CCleaner, open and close Edge to trigger a Smart Clean, then reopen CCleaner and set it back to Automatically clean with notification.
Sometimes a setting just gets stuck and changing it and then changing it back will unstick it.

As for Google/Youtube I'm not sure what to suggest, they sometimes act as if they are above the laws in any particular country.
(Im getting fed up with constant 'give us permission' poups and re-Captchas in Google search, which you get constantly if you are not signed in to Google, or if you clear their cookies).

  17. There seems to be a couple of different things going one here, let's see if we can sort them out.
(Apologies if you already know this stuff, but it doesn't hurt to say it again, and it may help others).

    First Edge and Smart Cleaning:
Edge has now gone Chromium based. (Old 'Microsoft Edge' has been disabled and is gradually being removed from users computers).
Make sure that your Smart Cleaning is set to clean 'Edge Chromium' and not (just) 'Microsoft Edge'.
Also make sure that your Custom Clean settings are set to clean Edge Chromium. (Smart Cleaning uses the Custom Clean settings).

    As well as that:
There has recently been a new feature introduced in Edge Chromium called 'Startup Boost' and it was enabled by default.
Startup Boost pre-loaded Edge Chromium before you opened it, and left Edge Chromium still running in the background when you closed it.
Smart Cleaning wouldn't even know that you had closed Edge Chromium, because it was still running in the background.
In either of those cases CCleaner could not clean Edge Chromium because it was still open and still running in the background.
You have to turn off Startup Boost to be able to clean Edge Chromium, and to let Smart Cleaning recognise when you close it.
    https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/60129-ms-edge-chromium-build-89/?tab=comments#comment-327619

PS. Microsoft have now bowed to pressure from user complaints and Startup Boost is no longer enabled by default - But if you had already had it enabled then you still have to turn it off yourself.

    Next, Youtube:
Youtube is owned by Google; and Google are messing about. (as usual)
That full screen consent thing in Youtube may be an indication that you are seeing one of their new trials.

Google are trialing a new system which is basically a replacement for cookies.
It shouldn't currently affect users in the EU, because as you say it's illegal under GDPR
BUT- If you are using a VPN that says you are in another country then Google don't know you are in the EU and so don't know GDPR applies, and it may affect you.
Other than making sure that your VPN uses an EU country I'm not sure what you can do about that.

  18. Windows 10 'Storage Spaces' are neither SSD or HDD. (or could be both, depending on how you want to look at it).

They are logical/virtual drives that are 'pooled' across several physical drives.
The physical drives in the 'pool' could be a mix of different types of drive, and of different formats - so because of that the 'Storage Space' cannot normally be defragmented.

A fairly comprensive guide to Win10 Storage spaces:

  19. That sounds fine then.

You may want to try one of those checking sites anyway. (TBH the same experts can be found working on more than one of them).
Whilst primaraliy set up to help clear malware they will also take a good look that finds other problems as well.
They don't remotely access your computer, they ask you to run certain things and collect logs that they then analyze for problems and tell you how to fix any they find.
(Occasionally if there are a lot, or awkward, fixes they will write a script to do it for you).

  20. You can simply reregister your CCleaner.

Go to Options>about and click on "Upgrade to Pro"
Enter your registered name and licence key
    Click on "Register"

Você pode simplesmente registrar novamente seu CCleaner.

Vá para Opções> sobre e clique em "Atualizar para Pro"
Insira seu nome registrado e chave de licença
    Clique em "Registrar"

  21. Just to be certain, was this Microsoft themselves?

Or was it a company claiming to be 'Microsoft Technicians'?

Without wanting to be unnecessarily worrying there are a lot of 'Tech Support' scamers advertising on the internet.
Most scammers just want money, but some will keep taking more once they have your card number, the worst will even install malware on your machine.
If you give one of these scammers remote access to your computer then they can install anything that they want on there; and trick your antivirus into ignoring it.
(It may be innocent, but I particularly don't like the idea that they changed the BIOS).

As someone has remotely accessed your computer then if your computer starts to show any odd behaviours, (well more than already does), I would definitely get it checked over for possible malware.
We can't do that here but section 10 of the forum rules gives you sites you can trust and who will check your computer for free. (They may even find the answer to your original problem).
    https://community.ccleaner.com/announcement/15-forum-rules%20/

PS. If you paid them with a credit/debit card then also keep an eye on the account for unauthorised debits.
