  1. I just worked through the steps starting from the link in my OP and now FileHippo is correctly offering ccsetup500.exe. So it appears they fixed the error of their ways. But it still doesn't explain why the Piriform site is linking directly to FileHippo for the free version, when in the past it always offered me the free version from their own site, especially since I don't like FileHippo. Thanks everyone.
  2. The Download button for the free version on the Piriform page is coded for http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner but the other two Download buttons are both coded http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/professional. So I have no control over where the file is coming from. Did Piriform outsource downloading the free version to FileHippo? And if they did, they should get FileHippo to fix their page. There's only one Download button on the FileHippo page that offers ccleaner. The others are all for junkware. You can see in attached jpg the exact file name that's being offered when I click the Download button, so it's not on my end (IE11, Win 7 Pro) and clearing browser cache, cookies etc, doesn't change the name of the file that's offered. Thanks for your input.
  3. I just downloaded the latest free version v5.00.5050 of ccleaner from here. The file it saved to my hard drive is named ccsetup500_exe which obviously isn't an executable. I had to change the name to .exe to get it to run (Win 7 Pro, 32-bit). As a test, I downloaded it a second time and it still mis-named the file. OOPS!!
