  1. Put it on earlier today.

    It changed my 32-bit to 64-bit, but haven't realy noticed anything different.

    I noticed it when running lots of tabs. No more memory restrictions and slightly better performance. Also, 64-bit has better exploit protection, but that's more under the hood type stuff.

  2.

    I didn't realize that the FileKeys were being kept in alphabetical order. I'll arrange them that way in future.  I've been using notepad++'s extended searches to find character combinations that would be errors.

    In your latest upload, for this one the middle ; was removed instead of the ending ;

    [K-Lite Codec Pack*]
    FileKey5=%SystemDrive%|*klcp_itp_*.tmp;*klcp_iph_*.tmp;

    should have become

    [K-Lite Codec Pack*]
    FileKey5=%SystemDrive%|*klcp_itp_*.tmp;*klcp_iph_*.tmp

    I fixed that already in the second URL I posted above.

  3. I've been reviewing for syntax errors again:

    [Technic Launcher*]
    Section=Games
    DetectFile1=%AppData%\.techniclauncher
    DetectFile2=%AppData%\.techniclauncher
    Default=False
    FileKey1=%AppData%\.technic|*.old;*.log;*.tmp|RECURSE
    FileKey2=%AppData%\.technic\*\logs|*.*|RECURSE
    FileKey3=%AppData%\.technic\temp|*.*RECURSE
    FileKey4=%AppData%\.techniclauncher|*.old;*.log;*.tmp|RECURSE
    FileKey5=%AppData%\.technicLauncher\*\logs|*.*|RECURSE
    FileKey6=%AppData%\.techniclauncher\temp|*.*RECURSE

    FileKey 3 and 6 are missing the | in front of RECURSE.

    Thank you for going through Winapp2 and finding issues like this. I have done a big overhaul of Winapp2 not too long ago, but I must have missed issues like these. And yes, I keep all the entries in ABC order, so I would appreciate if you can keep them like that as that was one goal of the overhaul.

    I have been passing along suggestions to Andrew (owner of BleachBit) to improve his error checking tool for Winapp2 which he uses for his program. It is very similar to Winappdebug, but checks for more errors and more throughly.

    I have talked to Shane (owner of System Ninja, as well as all Winapp2debug, Winappparser and CCDump) about updating Winappdebug with some of the suggestions you have have mentioned before as well as combining with Andrews tool, but unfortunetly, Winappdebug does not analyze each line of Winapp2, but rather checks the whole entry, so it is very limited and would require a rewrite to change it, for which he does not have the time to do. It is OK as Andrew tool works, but it is a Python script that I do not really know how to use but when I send a update copy to him once a month for BleachBit, he uses the tool for us and sends the errors to Winapp2 Github page.

  4. Has anyone tried deleting the files at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Windows Live\.cache? Seems to be a load of cached installers that haven't been modified since Windows install?

    MS dropped support for Windows Live quite a long time ago. Hardly anything ever used it. I do know some games that did, however servers don't work through it anymore, so deleting it wouldn't have any issues.

  5.

    Added detect2 and filekey2 to this (detects and cleans the last unwatermarked free version that many use):

    [ManyCam Thumbnails*]
    LangSecRef=3023
    Detect1=HKLM\Software\ManyCam
    Detect2=HKCU\Software\ManyCam
    Default=False
    FileKey1=%AppData%\ManyCam\Settings\MoviesThumbnails|*.*|RECURSE
    FileKey2=%LocalAppData%\ManyCam\cache\gallery|*.*|RECURSE

    Updated: https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/commit/237280dca025c23c9943ed13ab884ade6b4a6e68

  6. Added FileKey10....

    [AOL More*]

    LangSecRef=3022

    Detect=HKCU\Software\America Online

    Default=False

    FileKey1=%AppData%\AOL\C_AOL*|*.tmp|RECURSE

    FileKey2=%CommonAppData%\AOL\C_AOL*|*.tmp|RECURSE

    FileKey3=%CommonAppData%\AOL\C_AOL*\bart|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey4=%CommonAppData%\AOL\C_AOL*\spool|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey5=%CommonAppData%\AOL Downloads|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey6=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\AOL\C_AOL*|*.tmp|RECURSE

    FileKey7=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\AOL\C_AOL*\bart|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey8=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\AOL\C_AOL*\spool|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey9=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\AOL Downloads|*.*|RECURSE

    FileKey10=%LocalAppData%\AOL\AOLDiag\AOL\AOLBrowserUSGM\Win32\*\|*.tmp

    ;  above  %LocalAppData%\AOL\AOLDiag\AOL\AOLBrowserUSGM\Win32\0.7.42.1\fcs24DF.tmp

    RegKey1=HKCU\Software\America Online\AOL Instant Messenger â„¢\CurrentVersion\recent IM ScreenNames

    RegKey2=HKCU\Software\America Online\AOL Instant Messenger â„¢\CurrentVersion\recent ScreenNames

    RegKey3=HKCU\Software\America Online\AOL Instant Messenger â„¢\CurrentVersion\Users

    Do people still use this? Also, your FK10 makes no sense, please fix it.

  7. So what does everyone think about the upcoming Windows Core OS, aka Andromeda OS? I guess it is going to be able to run everywhere, PCs, Mobile, embedded systems, servers, etc. I think it is something MS should have done with Windows Vista, to be honest.

    I believe this will also use the new file system from MS, Resilient File System, aka ReFS.

    Can read about some of it here: https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-core-os

  8. For [Avast*], just one detect is enough.

    HKCU\Software\AVAST Software\Avast

    As for AVG, the latest AVG Antivirus is free of cost. No one is going to install an out dated Antivirus 2013, 2014 or 2015 and I don't think these versions get any updates now.

    By the way, AVG SafeGuard Toolbar is not available anymore. This entry can be removed as well.

    Does everyone else agree with removing the old AVG 2013-2015 entries as well as removing AVG safeguard? I mean the new AVG is free so people shouldn't have a issue with using that. Also, AVG 2017 does work on old XP system, too.

  9. I think [AVG AntiVirus More*] should be removed.

    Please change [AVG Protection*] to [AVG*].

    The AVG antivirus more is for 2013-2015, while the other one is for newer ones. We had discussed this in the past and everyone seemed to agree to keep them. They are old and I am not sure if these versions still receive updates.

    Updated the rest: https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/commit/075e0ed23c5aa5dd253012573f23d70efc91fcab

  10. The thing with backdoors and vulnerabilities is that they can come in surprises. They are made on accident and requires lots of research to determine where they are happening from. I don't think they can "guarantee" that there isn't anymore holes. No software can, not just CCleaner.

    64-bit has slightly better protection and much better memory management.

  11. Something to check in Winapp2.ini:

    There are two entries ( [bus-Simulator 2009*] and [blueSky Interactive*] ) with

    =%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\Program Files\   ...

    that probably should be

    =%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\Program Files*\  ...

    to cover 64 bit systems unless these are 64 bit apps only.  Perhaps someone with either of these applications could check it.  I don't have either but it looks like an oversight.

    Also there are a number of entries containing:

    =%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramFiles*\

    that probably should be:

    =%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\Program Files*\

    Perhaps those entries could be checked also.

    Unless you tell me which ones specifically, I don't know what they are. If you could list them, I would be willing to fix them for you.

    Committed your other suggestions though: https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/commit/c87510d69375d5367087fe0c4da7814ac06b8dd6

  12. Revised Entry

    Changed name from [Notification Cache*] to [Push Notifications*]

    Removed HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Current

    [Push Notifications*]

    DetectOS=6.2|

    LangSecRef=3025

    Default=False

    FileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Notifications\wpnidm|*.*|RECURSE

    RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications\wpnidm

  13. When will they learn. They keep adding tat/features to the browser, then removing them a few versions later to 'streamline' cos no one used it. And a screenshots tool? Might have been groundbreaking 10-15 years ago, but now? I really do wonder about the brains at Mozilla (or if there are any!)

    Actually most to all features comes from the community. Mozilla mostly just does security updates.

    I think the screenshot feature could still be useful. I usually use snaggy because it's simple and doesn't need some account, but this might be the replacement I needed.
