  1. Sorry I didn’t give a lot of details or explanation to start. I’ve been working on my music files for over a year, but never tried to do media sharing with Windows Media Player until a couple days ago. Most of the time I spent was research and double checking networking until I stumbled on the error DRM message in the event log(see initial post). At that point I tried starting and stopping cryptographic and WMPnetwork sharing and removing DRM folder with no success. I also did System Restore and it didn’t help(interestingly System Restore came up “incomplete unable to restore” unless I did it in safe mode). Since my last post, I’ve done a reinstall of Windows Media Player 11 without uninstalling the current WMP11. Now the original DRM error message is not coming up in event log (which I thought was a good sign) and I get no error messages at all in event log even though the WMPnetworksharing services hangs up at “stopping” every time I until I reboot. Also, even though WMP on my laptop has always found my networked devices (Yamaha RX- V671 and my TVUN55D7000), there is a yellow triangle with exclamation point over them when I see them in my media sharing pane on WMP. I can select “allow” and the yellow triangle changes to a green checkmark but WMP is still not communicating with them. So this is where I’m at now: I was excited when the error message indicating that the Digital Rights Management components are corrupted was gone. I thought it may have been caused by a Windows security update (2862330) problem because it continually cycled me thru showing the update ready to be installed, I installed it, restarted computer, then it would show update ready to be installed, and so on. My update history shows it installed about 20 times! (Here is what I think is a relevant Microsoft bulletin http://support.micro....com/kb/2894518 but I don’t find the CCM folder it refers to in my registry and my attempts to work in powershell have given me error messages as attached.) At this point this security update is a non-issue because it is no longer installed since my System Restore. I would try to work on the hanging in “stopping” WMPnetwork sharing services, but it still seems that something is wrong with communication between devices given the yellow triangle on the devices. If it is drivers then it must be on my laptop (Dell inspiron E1705) since the desktop (Dell Dimension 3000) communicates fine with them. However, it appears all my drivers are up to date. I’m totally frustrated because I feel like a fix could be close at hand but I don’t have enough knowledge to figure it out completely. I’ve spent days on this and would really appreciate any help! Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the response Hazelnut. Unfortunately nothing with the services fixes the problem. I've been trying things for two days and have an event log packed with the same message I initially posted. Tried removing the DMR folder temporarily to no avail, and have searched the internet incessantly and finding no fixesl. Also, there is no more microsoft support for XP. The songs play in WMP on my laptop and I do have songs that I have recorded myself in wave studio. Maybe that's why it won't let me share my media?
  3. Please help! I’ve worked for over a year to get music files organized and now have a Yamaha receiver that can access files in Windows Media Player 11. But sadly, my laptop (using XP Pro) shows event log error: A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration() encountered error '0xc00d2711'. The Windows Media DRM components on your computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service. I know it can work because I used my roommate’s desktop w/ XP Pro to troubleshoot and I can see and play her music files on my Yamaha receiver when I set WMP to share media. All my time and efforts have been successful only to help my roommate play all her music on the receiver, but I can’t play mine. I would so appreciate a fix for this! Thanks! Linda
