Hi Tony (and Mike-lol-now I'm really embarassed)
Tony-you, I have discovered, are brilliant (btw) as I've seen a few pages from another site you're involved with (unless you have someone with the same name). Never underestimate your helping me. I just got impatient and nuts with that file. I went back into my RegSeeker-which has several search functions-searched for that file-found it-then went to find "where it was located in the registry."
It was in 3 keys-HKCU/Software/Windows/Current Version/Explorer\StreamMRU; HKLM same thing except last was 'UserShell Folders'; HKLM-same except for last being 'shell folders.'
Did a search on Google for the exact HK'-word for word-came up with several sites-several pages later.
Sites I felt were legit (on the up and up[like CCleaner here]) I'd used a year or so ago when I crashed and had to learn how to install win98 from scratch and I knew very little, if anything prior to that.
Anyway, after finding the same solution in at least 2-3 sites- I seriously said a prayer first as I, for one, know the danger of playing with the registry. I deleted those keys; restarted several times and so far so good. NO darn file and everything seems to be as it was before. CCleaner is back to working perfectly! When I right click on C (properties) I can use the disk cleanup with no darn DC382 file showing up. It is GONE!!!!
I guess I just followed my instincts as to whether or not the advice seemed trustworthy.(and was willing to take the risk)
**I would not recommend anyone else try this unless they were like you, Andavari-who are experts, and Mike-who I feel is very knowledgeable.**
As I told Mike- to the best of my memory- this is the first forum as to pc's I've ever posted to.
I'm impressed with all of your knowledge and willingness to help others. I hope that someday I will learn even 1/10 what you seem to know and can apply that, as well as help someone else.
I really was feeling I was in PCHell with that file as I use CCleaner about a dozen times a day (give or take).
It's a great program and I believe I am addicted to using it-so for me, getting rid of it was not an option.
Thanks so much again. I'll be coming around still. I still have my messed up registry nad mismatched files-but the major issue is solved for now. Pam
