Do you have any kind of security/boot managers/encrypted drives/boot or windows lockers that would interfere & cause problems? Edit: Have you tried Windows chkdsk utility to test the restored disk partition for fixable problems?

Could they be any more confusing? Labeled as free, then the actual file says Web_Trial_en.exe. Downloading now, to test it out. Let's hope it's truly free, instead of "free" to try. LOL!

Though developers strive to make the registry cleaner as safe as is possible, unchecking the entries below may improve your registry integrity: 1) Unused File Extensions -> Reason -> May remove valid entries -> Example: Uninstalling KMP may not re-associate WMP with .MP3, leaving it "unused". 2) Obsolete Software -> Reason -> May remove valid entries -> Program "age" or infrequent use may flag legit entries as being ok to remove. It is best to review all entries before removal, & only remove those you KNOW are safe.

AVG has had this for a while on their 2013 versions. Don't care for the Metro UI on it, but since I rarely see the interface unless doing a scan, I suppose the only thing that matters is that it works properly. Good program, bad interface.

I don't suppose having a Mac OS partition on the same drive either caused UEFI/Windows/Defraggler to be confused? Didn't know about the Mac partition initially.

I didn't know about the version you had. I just know when I checked online, it looked like they had a trial version. I just made a couple suggestions, in case it would help run Power Shadow under a modern OS, else alternative that would so it would be possible to continue to revert changes to the system by Java/other programs. I didn't know about the older free version. Sorry.

Other registry cleaners may remove more things, but CCleaner registry cleaner is meant to be safe for the average user. If you mean Acronis is wiping your drive, CCleaner also includes that capability in the Tools section. Running a drive wipe will take much longer than simply "deleting trash".

So, if I set CCleaner via includes options to empty the entire Temp folder, that would be the correct way? Or is there some recurse setting I am missing that your talking about? Do the same for the others?

I want to import these WinApp2 entries as includes. In my experience, the CD drivers are always more bloated. Download the basic drivers from the web for your model, & it should work substantially better.

If you right-click power shadow setup under (Vista/7/8) & click properties, then select XPSP2 for compatibility, would it install or function under the newer OS? Granted, compatibility mode isn't perfect & doesn't solve all problems, but there are times when it enables you to run something you need. But that raises another question. As Power Shadow is a trial version, why wouldn't you use something free like Steady State for XP that does the same thing? It's XP only & made by MS. It also allows you to revert or save system changes on reboot, just like Power Shadow. Or are there features that you use not included in Steady State? Steady State is a bit hard to find now, being so old, but it is still possible to find. Do you have a way to check the scheduled tasks folder & delete any new scheduled tasks that are not supposed to be there? I had the thought that because Windows 8 utilizes secure boot, perhaps Defraggler is attempting to run but never finishes. Perhaps secure boot process interferes with it, & causes it not to post? It may be something else, but I wonder if you still have a defraggler task, & if you do, that if you delete it if it would then boot? Normally, the task would be cleared after a successful run, but it may not be ever successfully finishing if secure boot is interfering.

SSD may be faster, but seeing all these limitations makes me glad I have HDD. I can boot cold turkey on my standard sata HDD & be in a usable windows desktop in less than half a minute. Do I really need to shave 15 extra seconds off boot, since applications run in RAM once loaded anyway? AND, I can defrag my HDD. Hooray!!!

So what your saying is, while SSD are fast, HDD are more durable? Go, HDD, go!!! LOL

Just fix the page file drive map color that got messed up on 2.12, & toss in support for drives greater than 2 TB, & I'll be happy

Do you have Obsolete Software checked? That one has always caused me problems with trying to remove both obsolete & also non-obsolete programs if checked. Does removing the checkmark solve the problem?

Part of your paranoia may be from hearing the dangers of defragging SSD, reducing drive life. But recovering is an entirely different process from defragging. So long as you read from the SSD & write the output from Recuva to a different drive, you should be safe.

Yes, that is correct, I suppose. I had hoped that I can include WinApp2.ini in portable CC folder, & CC will ignore it unless I check any entries. Instead, CC checks the entire list, whether anything is checked or not. Which is why I was wondering if there could be added a checkmark box to enable/disable WinApp2.ini I am aware of the methods you list, but I just figured it would be both smaller & less confusing to have 1 CC folder instead of 2 or 3 of them. And I thought that it would be great to be able to enable it when I need it, but disable it for normal cleaning jobs.

This may not be part of your problem, but here are a few things you might can check: 1) If BIOS settings have been changed, reset to default 2) If you have cleaned/blown any dust out lately, reseat your RAM/PCI/PCIE cards If you install multiple things that require a boot, but wait to reboot before you install them all, that can cause problems during or after loading the OS. In some situations, if Windows Updates is on & it downloads a Service Pack update, it may change enough settings to cause Windows to fail to boot past post. If your wanting to backup any files on your HDD, I'd imagine you can boot to a live Ubuntu disk & save them to an empty flash. Obviously, there are many things that can cause these kinds of issues. But hopefully, I have given you a few ideas.
