  1. what do you mean with "Windows Backup" attribute?

you don't need to run Windows Cleanup to remove restore point

    just use CCleaner

    Tool > System Restore

you can remove all except the latest restore point same as Windows Cleanup

Have been usingCC for years and never noticed that! I was referring to Applications>Windows>Windows Backup (18 up from the bottom. At least with "enhancer" installed). What does it remove? One of my three imaging applications is W7's. Of course the image is stored on a different drive. Would CC be removing the archive referrence? Thank you!

  2. Although strictly in lay terms, allow me to relate my experience. I updated to the new version earlier this week. I was most curious how effective the dupe cleaner was so I used it. The next day or so the PC experienced BSOD. I built this PC in May and have never had a serious issue. From safe mode I just used W7s System Restore and all was good. I never associated it with the dupe cleaner so I re-installed CC and tried the dupe cleaner again. After lunch today I woke the x64 W7 SP1 PC from Sleep and my 120gb SSD had gone from 87gbs of free space to a few MBs. I now suspected it had something to do with the duplicate cleaner, of course I still don't know for sure. I restored from my weekly Paragon image I made Saturday (I also image with W7s backup which is very good too.) and every thing is back to normal! Also, why doesn't Cyberfox's spell check work here? That is kind of dangerous for me. lol

  3. I've been using CC for years and yesterday stumbled upon this part of the GUI that I'd never seen before. I googled and came upon this thread (may be more recent) and am more confused. By default, Normal file deletion was checked (good) and by default, Wipe Free Space drives © and Wipe MFT Free Space was checked (not sure good or bad). I've unchecked both the C MFT. The thing is I'm running a SSD so I need to know what I should do. Thank you!

  4. It is difficult to know how to help, until you know what is causing it. First, you want to eliminate possibilities, which I will list below.

    - Try a corded mouse. If this fixes it, something about wifi mouse isn't working right. Update driver/move receiver closer/exchange for another mouse/etc.

    - Check your BIOS settings to ensure USB power settings are correct. If not, correct it & save the settings, then reboot.

    - Check your power settings in Windows itself. Some computers have ability to shut off ports to conserve power for certain reasons. Go into power options & deselect powering down/standby.

    - Update your BIOS to the latest at the manufacturer website.

    - If still having problems after changing BIOS settings, try resetting it to default settings. Overclocks & other changes can cause problems for connected devices.

    - If worse comes to worse, try a USB add-in card & see how your mouse works with it. Save your onboard for other things that don't have that problem.

    - Try a different OS, or even Ubuntu to see how they handle USB under heavy use.

What OS are you using? 32 or 64 Bit? How much RAM do you have? Are your CPU/GPU/Case fans clean & clear of dust?

    * Additionally, be sure your using a proper mouse pad. Some surfaces are difficult for lasers to track, & cause erratic tracking or jumping on the screen.

So indeed, under advanced power settings and USB there was a "Selective Suspend" setting that was enabled. I've disabled it and so far so good, although it's hard for me to believe that an active port would be involved. I also read where fans can interfere with the connection. There are three plus the CPU fan. If it occurs again I'll try a M to F USB cable and put the dongle up on the desk, away from the case. If that fails I'll try the same with a powered hub as there like five bucks on ebay. I love this mouse. It's big and it doesn't have a segmented scrolling wheel and that is the reason I bought it for the old XP machine. It is a little harder to middle click admittedly. I still haven't checked the BIOS yet. It did work fine the first several weeks so perhaps it is dying as Andavari suggested!

Nice reply. Especially like the Power Settings! It is 64 bit Windows 7.

  6. I don't see a peripheral categorie so here I am! I've built a desktop with an Asus P8Z77-M Pro mother board, a Core i5 3570K CPU and a SSD. I use an Asus VE 228h LED monitor. After a week or so with the dongle in any given port, the cursor becomes erratic and eventually it will actually freeze. Sometimes a change of ports rectifies it, other times only a reboot. Definitely not the batteries or drivers. Well I guess you can't always say definitely not the drivers. Any theories? Thank you!

  7. At the grand old age of 64 I built a PC (Went pretty flawless actually, although I was scared to death!) with Windows 7. My old XP machine has these really neat arrow cursors I downloaded years ago but I can't find a matching program on that PC. When I search for it on the www there are dozens and dozens and dozens but I can't find the ones I have. They are in the mouse options on the XP PC, is there a way I can find that file and import it to the new PC or does anyone suspect they know which app I'm looking for? Thank you!

Found their name: alphablend, may still be around!

  8. No one knows (except Brad, the devepoper) what is going on. Apparently it's getting the feed from The Weather Channel again. As you recall, back in October Brad posted on his site (The story) (Not sure why the WOT flags it red but it is safe!) that TWC was now charging a monthly fee, so with WP being freeware Brad had to stop using them. It is still the best and the most amazingly configurable weather app ever!

  9. My wife wanted a spring theme so this was it but it doesn't show the orange mulch at the base of the tree in the forefront, which actually makes the image look better imo. Upon boot, the taskbar is loaded and the full (and correct) image is visable but as soon as the icons load it ends up like this. I've tried numerous resolutions but nothing works. Thank you for any suggestions!

  10. For those of you that were helping me, I have a little update. I discovered that there is a "fool proof" (at least it was for me) three application system to add the Vista Side bar and it's gadgets to XP. Apparently it's been available for quite some time. I installed the three apps and added the weather gadget and all is well! I'm including the link if anyone cares to play with it. Thank you again!

  11.

Wow, that was really nice of you to do! I'll mess with it over the weekend. Also, relative to changing the code, that is what happened in my original thread. It didn't exactly paste correctly. Thank you again and have a good weekend!

  12. Thank you for the replies. The best weather app was WeatherPulse. It included a desklet for the desktop. It could be moved around, you could change its transparency and with earlier versions even change its color. Unfortunately weather.com no longer is providing free feeds to it. I actually have a weather station and am always just one click away from from the temperature and/or forcast but it was also just very convenient seeing the temperature in the system tray and on the desktop when not having any programs or browsers open. I'll paste the code again, not sure why it is not rendering properly. I'm just trying to get rid of the "large" white box. I'm also not sure how to get it on a particular area on the destop but that is just an inconvenience. Here also are the XP directions:

    • Instead of copying all of the code, copy only the URL for the image file. This can be found in the image source tag which starts with < img src="http... Copy the text within the tag starting with "http" and, for Classic stickers, ending with the "gif" or, for New stickers, ending with "ForcedState=".
    • For Windows XP: Right click on your desktop and click "Properties". Go to the Desktop tab, then click the "Customize Desktop..." button. Choose the Web tab, then click on the "New..." button. Paste (Ctrl+V) the URL for the Weather Sticker into the Location box, then click OK. Back in the Desktop Items window, the URL for your Weather Sticker should show with a checked box next to it. Click Apply then OK, and it should appear on your Desktop.

  13. I installed this WeatherUnderground widget with the following html code but it doesn't render properly. Also, I can't figure out how to set the location on the desktop or move it. This is on an XP system with a 1600x900 resolution monitor and the actual code added to the destop is in blue. The border you see is actually just part of the wallpaper. The issue is the large block of white instead of just the widget! Thank you!

  14. I must be honest here I buy really cheap keyboards just costing a couple of pounds and then get rid of them when they get dirty or the letters rub off. I do blast them with an air spray once a week though.

Next time before I throw one out, in the interests of experiment, I will put it in the dishwasher first :)

Cleaning it regularly does seem like a good idea!

  15. So most of you are probably are aware that it is "supposedly safe" to clean a keyboard in a dishwasher. So humor me and assume that it is for a normal non-illuminated one. I use a Logitech illuminated keyboard. Do you think there would be greater risk involved putting it in the dishwasher, e.g. damaging the LEDs or whatever they use to illuminate the keys? No jokes please and thank you!
