  1. Thanks to you and all the others that have posted pertaining to me being back after my "vacation." It's good to know people recognize I exist and means a lot to me. Being ancient itself makes one feel alone. You people are tops. Thanks again.
  2. My replaced Hip is much better. The Ribs I broke are healing fine, and the damage to the Knee is improving. Now if I could only keep the old Heart doing it's job all would be well. Just out of the Hospital last Friday. But, I'm alive and feel well. Spent most of the day in the field trying to kill the weeds that are growing around what I planted. We have had more than 8 inches of rain since June 10. Never saw the sunshine for 8 days while it just drizzled. I'm not complaining but I would like for it to spread out a little. Here the annual average rainfall is 16 inches and most of the rain comes in April and September. June, July, and August usually brings no rain! To try to keep my sanity I grow a Garden for the friends and neighbors. Doesn't cost much to do it and I don't charge anything. Have peas, beans, watermelons, cantaloupe, okra, squash, tomatoes, and the old stand by for this part of the country, Black-Eyed Peas. They are growing so fast that I can't get the tractor and plow into the patch as the vines have grown across and twisting with others. Know this is a rant and 99 of 100 people will ask, "So." Feel good today and taking advantage of it. Am I still Senior on the Forum? Will be 76 if all goes well on Dec 1 this year. If you want, hope everybody lives as long. A picture of my new hip bone. The ball part broke off the old one.
  3. I enjoy life as much as it will let me. The past 6 months almost brought it to a halt. In another few weeks I think I'll be able to get out and see the old guys I pal with. I will say one thing for all of you. Enjoy every minute you have. Minutes slipped by are wasted. Wish I had the talent to write, I would write a short story of my life and I think it would sell. People would say, " he couldn't have done all that!" But it was fun. Wish all could have been with me. Mudd
  4. Been a long time since my last post. Spent a long time geting over some problems. Am now better. Turned 75 last December and hope to make 76. Getting old is not a lot of fun for me. To much illness. Still enjoy reading the forum. Mudd
  5. Never got so many "happy s" on a birthday. I guess you people already know you are a special group. If you hadn't thought about it that way, I'm letting you know now. Old men kind of get sentimental that way.
  6. You folks now have an old fa*t of 75 years on your Forum. Dec 1 here in the States was my day. The Hospital stays are more frequent and the pains sometime more intense but I'm here. Because of you and your expertise, I spend less and less on Computer repairs and certainly enjoy the fun you have on the Forum Now I'm shooting for 5 more years. Don't expect to make it. Didn't expect to make 75 so who knows except for the Man! Thanks for allowing me to be part of your group.
  7. Hope the link stays active for two more months at least. I'll be 75 in Dec, that is assuming..............! Wondering if I'm the oldest. I remember not to long ago I saw a 70+ member but can't remember the details. I've always sucked the hind-t## because I was the youngest of 8. If I'm the most elder here, will finally have been first at something,
  8. I'm going to jump in here again, probably for the last time. I've read the entire thread and surprised to find I have posted here in the past. Surprised because I have had a Stroke and it has kept me away from a PC. I lost a large part of Memory because if it. I hope Capman is still around as he was the one that invited me to the Forum. Am 74 now, hope I make 75 in December. After that anything goes. My Grouch is typing this. I have no typing skill left. So thanks for letting me post on the board. Still can read so I will be able to know how things are with you. Enjoy every word I read on the Forum. Respectfully,
  9. I was near 71 when this post was started. Now I'm 74 and a lot has happened in the past three years. I still enjoy reading the posts and using some of your ideas. Thanks for allowing me to be here.

    June Desktops

Can't remember where I found this. Reminds me of my Old Grouch trying to see what I'm doing with the PC.
  11. The Backup Program is the one in the Vista System. Don't think it is named as such. Have tried it twice and it failed each time. For instance, did the complete backup of all files, except for OS files, then reformatted. Tried to restore. The Backup has a Restore Feature and it failed to do it's job. Some programs would not run after. It replaced zero icons back on the desktop. It was generally a mess. I have Vista Home Premium 32Bit. It's late for me here in the Colonies. Will return tomorrow. Thanks for the information.
  12. Just now tried to rename folders and try the Unlocker that way. I could rename Windows but PC would not allow me to rename Programs. Got the same answer as before.(Atch above) I tried to follow the procedures referenced on the error window and got to a Microsoft page. Was doing OK until I got to an item giving directions to do so and so for Debugging. That part was not in my directory. I forgot to state that I'm using Vista. I believe the instructions were for prior OS's as it mentioned ME once as well as XP. Saw no mention of Vista. Back where I started. However, I don't keep a lot of data on the PC so if I had a good backup I wouldn't mind a reformat. Was going to buy and download Ghost but the price pushed me away from that. Had the program long ago and liked it. Wasn't as expensive then.
  13. No harm in trying. I believe the trouble is that I'm actually trying to delete system files.. They are copies but still system files. I may never get rid of them until a reformat. There are 8.9GB of files, making the system exactly twice as large on the hard drive as it should be. If I ever get them away, I'll be sure an post with the solution. Thanks for the guidance.
  14. Tried the Command Prompt Del and it would not accept a drag. Downloaded the program you mentioned and it refuses to be kind. See below. Will try something more desperate later. Thanks a lot for your help
  15. Thank you Humpty. Going to try that/those as soon as the Football game is over. The Dallas Cowboys need somebody to cheer for them!!
  16. I had a freebie Backup and Restore Program (not anymore) that made a duplicate copies of "everything" and placed it into a folder called Backup, placed it on the C drive. I had to use the program. Now that all is well I tried to remove all the files it put on the C drive under Backups and can't. I've tried Safe Mode without luck. What I'm wanting to remove is a duplicate of the files that are supposed to be there. Is there a way?
  17. Thank you, that was the ticket! I used to be able to find things like this before I got "dumb and old." Your time and effort is appreciated.
  18. I should have mentioned the OS,sorry. It's a Vista Home. I got to the place you mentioned and am seeing another problem. The area includes, "Computer Name, Full Computer Name, Computer Description, and Workgroup." To the right is "Change Settings." I'm able to change Computer Description but see no place to change Computer Name. In addition, your reply almost beat me posting the message!! You were quick tonight, (night here). Thanks,
  19. When I first setup this PC I made a mistake in spelling the name I gave the computer. I'd like to correct this error but darn if I can find the proper place. Guidance please.
  20. Not so young Andavari but, I've tried to keep my mind young by doing young things, like the Computer for instance. Three year ago took a course on Locksmith. Don't know why but did. Unfortunately my body wouldn't listen to my mind. It's old, very old. Would probably exceed the Post limit to describe it's problems. But I'm going to die young at heart no matter!!!
  21. Feel like I've joined a Nursery Group! Wow, when do we have cookies????? Be 73 soon.
  22. Most everyone knows this one I think.
  23. n8chavez. I agree that is a drastic step. To much so for a beginner like me. Thanks anyway. hazelnut. Thank you for the information. I ran the one for msc. and it has straighten out the few I clicked. Almost glad I had this problem as to learn the fix and where to find it. Thank each of you. n8chavez. Tried SFC earlir and it was of no help.
  24. Having trouble again with some of the Window items not opening, such as "Manage when right clicking on My Computer; in Administrative Tools in Control Panel, Comptuer Management, Even Viewer, etc." Had this trouble once and never could repair it until I did a restore. Now it's here again. Don't want to do a restore and loose things unless I have to. I have a restore program but it is very weak and not dependable. Below is what I get on the items above when I try to open them. Would appreciate suggestions to get around this.
  25. Glad you are pleased with your work and the Forum.
