  1. I get the message, "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter," when i try to turn on my moms old computer, and i dont know what to do. Its really old, and when i put the wnidows 98 operating disk in, nothing happens. It doesnt seem to be responding. She also has norton system go back, and it doesnt seem to be working either. Ive tried everything i could. It doesnt seem to be able to reinstall though. I dont know... Could someone help me out?

    Explorer.exe

Solving these issues may solve why my computer is messing up external hard drives. OK! I know that my computer is missing drivers, error messages always come up saying that. Sometimes when I start my computer, explorer.exe seems to freeze, or stop initializing. I do not know why this is. The way that i solve this is that i go into the task manager, end the explorer.exe process, and then manually start it again in the file bar. All my issues may stem from this, i dont know. If anyone has any ideas, please i really need them. I need this computer for university, which i am currently in.
  3. I didnt really use a program to format it, it was an option when i right clicked the drive, i dont know the specifics of it, but it would work. So when i tried to recover my smaller drive i just had my new drive formatted there also. Both drives use usb. I definately did try both drives on other computers, i also have a desktop here, but they wont work. If you know anything about xtremegear though, after reading reviews or what not, they sell cheap technology, but other than that their setup isnt great, and the customer service is horrible. I know now that, even though this is a new laptop, it crashes occationally, which is due to some missing drivers. Im not sure which ones though, but its my guess that that may be a part of the problem because I did get one of the hard drives form the same company, so its my guess that they wouldnt sell a hard drive that wouldnt work with their own laptops. To elaborate on my driver issues, sometimes when I turn on my laptop, my explorer.exe freezes during its initialization. I have to go to processes, exit the process and restart it inorder for my computer to continue to restart. I believe i mentioned before that the hard drives seemed to mess up my explorer program after they crashed. Maybe it could have been the other way around. Hopefully this is enough information to get close to identifying the missing driver that may be causing the problem, if that is the problem at all.
  4. I recently bought a new laptop form extreme gear. Though they have good technology for reletively cheap prices, the company itself does have a reputation for being a bit dissapointing at times. I do know that almost nothing was installed on my laptop when i first got it and to my knowledge may still be missing some unknown drivers. Heres the problem. Recently, while listening to music on my new laptop off of my barely year old reliable external harddrive, the drive crashes. At first i thought to myself that it wasnt really that old, but crashed is crashed. So i try to take it in to get recovered. Currently i do not have the external here so i cant give you a brand. I do have a different external however, my new one, of a completely different brand name, i-rocks, and type all together. My first harddrive was portable, where this new 500gig one is not. I started noticing a pattern however when just after formatting my new hard drive, it does the same thing. CRASHES! Brand New. Maybe its the brand, i dont know, but its the exact same thing that happened to my other hard drive that ive been using for a while. Personally, i think there is something with my laptop thats causing it, but really have no idea. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? How to stop it? How to recover the data if possible? With my old hard drive, you could still see all the files, it was all still intact to a degree, it just took a long time to load that far, and cause my explorer.exe program to go crazy if i tried to go any further. For my new hard drive, it looks like its just been unformated again. I had to take it to a place to get formatted to begin with because my laptop couldnt do it on its own. I hope all this extra information helps. Please reply. Im just starting university and have enough stress as it is. Heres a logfile if it helps. 5. Is there a way i can get back that info?
  6. I just installed azureus and when i used CCleaner all of my azureus downloads were deleted. Would system restore bring back these deleted files? I had just downloaded 13 gigs of unwatched unlicenced shows. I spent weeks downloading them.

Thanx for the suggestion, though unfortunately i dont know how easy it is to mod a laptop. On top of that the processor doesnt really meet what im looking for. Thanx though, its helps. i can check out what else hsn.com has to offer

Thanks. Also, i mean to point out that when i mean everything, i basically mean games and such, personal programs like video editors, etc. Any drivers or required programs will obviosly be installed on the desktop. Its not like ill have a shortage of space or anything, most of the places ive checked out generally have a minimum space offer of 80 or 100 gigs.

    Laptop Specs

Graduating from high school this june, im looking for a good high performance laptop to basically replace my old and dying desktop. Im using university as an excuse to get my mom to buy for me a decent gaming laptop. This is what im looking for. A 2.0 ghz processor at least, but would prefer something higher, not completely out of the way like 3.0, i still want to be economical A decent video card, since im looking at a laptop, probably something close to GeForce 7900 go, or whatever is good. At least 2 gigs of ram. Hard drive isnt really an issue, because i plan on getting a large external. My friend installs everything on his external and it seems to work. And finally, Windows XP. Vista , whatever its future intentions might be, apparently isnt quite ready for supporting games. Ive done a bit of research, and am told that generally the best prices you can find are at dell. I also discovered that a company called rock (rockdirect.com) in the uk is highly regarded, and after the exchange rate has prices pretty comparable. Overall, what im really looking for is some suggestions for companys or sites that i could check with decent pricing. i want to keep it under or around $3000 US. I hear alien ware has recently been bought out by dell so short of the case, dell basically provides the same thing. other than that, theres really little more out there that i know about the competition, and the best prices. Thanx for any suggestions. I really need it, my current ancient computer is starting to fail finally, and is even having trouble supporting war craft iii. You can imagine what im limited to on that comp.

    Drive Problem

I am using windows xp, and my external model is HY2501-2.5" USB2.0 "http://www.fieondigital.com/product_detail.asp?productId=1261&type=&bc=98&sc=133" but it used to work, and now it doesnt. I have gone onto the website, and used the contact support system, but havent gotten a reply there. Also the driver is available on the site, but the link doesnt work, and ive tried 2 different browsers. My concern is that my friends external but some sort of conflicting driver on my comp, i donno, because it worked fine before he plugged in his external, and my external works on other comps also.

    Drive Problem

I have a problem with my portable drive, but i dont know how to fix it. i think i have a driver issue. i know by usb connection isnt broken or anything, because other drives like my friends external drive still works in em, i also know that my drive works still because it works in other computers. here's the problem. it never needed anything to be installed before to work on ym comp, and i can just plug it into any random comp and itll work, but when i plug it into my comp, it says that i need new drivers, and when i throw in the little disk (which i think is corrupted somehow), or search online, it never works. every link i can find seems to be dead. here's another point which i think might have something to do with my problem. whenever i try to plug in my portable drive with someone else who has an external drive, i wont work. and in some cases i just have to unplug it and itll work, but in others, depending on the external, my portable will never work on that comp. weird. and i mentioned before that my friends external works on my comp. ... so maybe if i were able to locate the drivers from his drive which might be conflicting with mine... this is way out on a limb here and i have no idea if im going in the right direction, please respond with some suggestions, if im in the right direction or not, if you need the model number of my drive or my friends external, etc. thanx
  12. I have a HY2501: http://www.fieondigital.com/product_detail...=98&sc=133# -portable hard drive, and though it has worked in the past, i tried to get it to work on someone elses computer who had a drive from a different company and now it wont work on either computer. i have the driver disk, but the driver on the disk is seems to corrupted, and no matter which site i go so, nothing seems to happen. It holds 80 gb's and its half full, the data on it is really valuable and the only copies of it i have are on the drive, seeing as i am running ouy of space on my physical computer. 13. It WORKED! I can now change skins, and I can even keep the Crash Recovery Program. Thanx for all the help, a lot of ppl said it cant be done and I did it. Now Im off to find some new skins to work with my new windows skins, lol.
  14. Unfortunately that didn't work either, however, I did completely deactivate WindowsBlinds and tried it and it didnt work then either, so maybe its a firefox problem and I'll just have to reinstall it. However the skin thing no longer applies to firefox, so i know its working to a degree, I just cant change the firefox skins. Also, maybe it has something to do with a firefox application I have, I've been reading some of the WindowsBlinds forums and apparently some of the firefox application have issues with WindowsBlinds. The only extention i have is Crash Recovery 0.6.9, which im told has some compatibility issues even with other firefox extentions. So I'll try reinstalling firefox and see what happens.
  15. How do you exlude it form being skinned, ive tried everything they've suggested, even to completely deactivating is but my skins still wont change!
  16. I've been reading on other forums with the same problems, but i can't find any that seem to be able to solve my problem. Ever since I downloaded Windowblinds Application, i am unable to change my Firefox themes. I have the most recent versions of both, and i still have all the icons on firefox, but i just am not able to figure out how to change it. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Driver Problem

Accually now my my computer is opperating pretty well, concidering i have 2/3s the ram, im even playing around with my on computer tv, and the tv listings. however, i still have one issue. for some reason my internet browser is increadibly slow and still crashes. especially compared to my other programs, for example, i know taht a tv program takes up a lot of the cpu and will naturally slow things down, but when i have a web page up and a tv up at the same time, without surfing or having to reload anything, it woll take my browser about 5-10 full seconds to respont to anything, scrolling, typing, stc, while my tv is still virtually instant, even with changing channels and stuff. i dont think this has to do with the video device, but thats why im asking you. what do you think this problem might be?

    Driver Problem

OK, ive been on my computer for a while now and there are still a few problems, not to mention that after i restarted my computer, the same error report came up again saying that my computer had suffered from a serious error. Do you think enough time has passed and should i try and fix my device drivers? and if so, which of the ones listed above or both? even if its not the problem, its safe software and cant really cause any more problems right?

    Driver Problem

Thank you. and it did generate a "send/don't send" dialoge, but for some reason it would always say we cant determine the problem. finally now its identifying the problem, but ill take your advice and just wait and see.

    Driver Problem

i was finally able to dua successful mem test and identified which RAM was responsible, and as soon as turning on my computer after removing the RAM, my computer identified a video card driver issue. I think i might have mantioned something like this above. However there is one problem. This might seem like a stupid question, but I dont know which driver update i should do, if i should do both, they seem to be for different things on the same video card. Driver Problem

Fortunately due to a recent virus, i transfered all my information on my other drive to do the wipe, so information isnt an issue, however, the error reports still say that i have a driver issue. is this all due to my hard drive about to fail, or is there another issue here as well?
  22. Jamex

    Driver Problem

Could that be the problem? or just one of them? my other drive says something like 30 degrees or something, its wierd, and there is circulation in there. I was thnking of getting a liquid cooling system and found a really good deal but was convinced against it, what do you think about that. ill also see if i can clean the fans, etc and see if that will makes much of a difference.

    Driver Problem

How exactly do you do the mem test, i went to the site you recomended and downloaded a zip folder with four files; install.bat, memtestp.bin, rawrite.exe, README.txt. i tried just opening them to puting them of a floppy and booting from the floppy, though it wont work, how exactly am i supposed to do it? Also, like you mentioned above, i think the video card could be the issue. when i reinstalled my video card after the system wipe, i imediately started having problems. Windows suggested i update my drivers but the same things kept happening. for exmple, right after my last post i opened my browser and went onto a website with flash player on it. then a system notice poped up and said flash has ... an illegal action, we recommend the immediate restart of firefox. ive seen this notice before, however the problem seems to be getting worse and this time somehow caused my explorer program to crash. i was forced to restart my computer, which would make about 5 or 6 today alone, not to mention it now takes about 5-10 minutes just for startup to end now, and all that really loads at startup is ati, ewido anti malware, avg free, and zonealarm. if it is my videocard, what should i do, and if you still think its my ram, please help me to figure out the mem test.

Heres the screenshot you asked for. i havent yet been able to do the other thing you mentioned, its dificult through random restarts, ill get to that next. after scanning both my hard drives though, this was the only error

    Driver Problem

My computer recently suffered from a major virus problem which caused the deletion of over 19 gigs of computer information, primarily windows programs, drivers, etc. Fortunately I was able to wipe my hard drive and start from scratch, though I feared that the virus may have done some damage to accual sound card, etc. Right now however, Ive got everything i really want reinstalled, and suddenly my computer starts doing wierd stuff. First of all my firefox has suddenly spontaneously crashing, and to be honest, it happens about every 10 minutes. Fortunately I did download a crash program that reopens all the pages I lost, i cant remember it off the top of my head, but now that wont even work. Not only that, my computer is now increadably slow and non responsive. Every time I do a "Spyware Doctor" or "Ad-Aware SE Personal" scan my entire computer crashes, even in safe mode, and my other scanners arent picking up anything. When I send a microsoft error report, they basically say that it is an undetermined driver issue, and will get back to me when they find out more about it, but they dont accually know whats wrong. I was wondering if, like i mentioned above, it could possably be a hardware problem caused from the virus and if ill have to replace any of my hardware. This isnt the best computer, but atleast i was able to pull off HL2 with a 1.15ghz AMD Athlon processor and about 768 MB of RAM, but now my computer crashes if I play regular HL!
