Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 I've been using CCleaner on 4 machines for a couple years - the reg files are definately created by it. On this particular machine I have no problems - had a problem last evening with my wife's (same OS) tried to import and no go. I've been googling it for a few hours myself - I think I might be on to something. I'll post back if I find a solution.

It's my understanding that if something is written to a drive - then deleted - it still remains on the drive until that space is overwritten. All a wipe does is remove what was once there completely - writing the drive to 0's. I may be wrong, but I'm sure someone will let us both know.

When I try to merge or import the backup files back to the registry I get "cannot import C:\my documents ..... error accessing registry." I tried a few different things - I'm admin etc. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

I'm having what appears to be the same problem. Installed nforce mainboard drivers on my wife's machine last evening. When I run speccy the machine freezes. (uninstalled the nforce ide drivers and went with generic windows drivers - seems to have solved this problem)
