  1. If Bing and Google decide to stop providing DDG with access to their search results, they are going to be in big trouble..
  2. The people who have had an entire OS hosed by a false positive would ardently disagree.
  3. Google always gives the best results for me personally. People may object to the amount of data they gather about their users, but Google certainly know how to use that data to give me exactly what I'm looking for.
  4. I had the same problem with Malwarebytes 2.x. Even with real-time protection (and "start with windows") disabled in MBAM, MBAM.exe was being run on startup and CCleaner isn't detecting its startup entries. Nor can I identify a service that is triggering MBAM. I thought this was a 'me-problem' and, suspecting some form of witchcraft; opted to uninstall Malwarebytes. Looks like I'm going to have to send Marcin & Co an email.
  5. Kas, I suspect the reason it's not working is because Gmail (the mobile apps) prefetch the image resources of any received messages so they can be opened and read offline. I have now confirmed this behavior by sending "tracked" emails to my Gmail account while my iPad, Galaxy Tab, Nexus 5 and Mac all have their respective Gmail applications running. With the exception of Mac OS X, MSGTAG is returning the "email read" response before the emails are actually opened. The conclusion: MSGTAG does not work correctly if the recipient accesses webmail on a smartphone or tablet. Why? Because Google are downloading the tracking pixel and embedding it into the email when the push notification occurs. It's a good thing only 1.75 BILLION people have smartphones now. Otherwise, your tracking method would be completely thwarted! Oh no!
  6. Kas, are you using any of Gmail's mobile apps? As soon as my devices recieve a push notification alerting me of a new email; MSGTAG responds with an "email read" notification, even if it hasn't been opened. The tracking only works with the web interface.
  7. Here is a better link on the topic from Google themselves: http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/images-now-showing.html?m=1 I'm to test this MSGTAG software in a few minutes to see whether Gmail's security feature actually works.
  8. Kas, you simply got a notification that Gmail had processed your email - not that the user has opened it. The "single pixel" method does not work, as of December 2013. Read here https://wordtothewise.com/2013/12/gmail-deploys-image-proxy-servers/
  9. Gmail; and soon Outlook.com, proxy external content in emails making tracking methods completely useless.
  10. Finches (Gouldians, Forbes, Stars, Emblema, Zebra, Cordon) and small parrots (Fischer's and Masked Lovebirds); and I have Plum Head Parrots, Canaries and Musk Lorikeets on hold.
  11. I can relate. In addition to my beagle, I have a collection of african tropical fish and a flock of birds nearing 50 specimens. I buy pet food by the pallet...
  12. I live in Australia and our spiders tend to grow rather large. I've had pet birds killed and eaten by spiders. I don't fear them, so much as respect their frightening disregard for life.
  13. This is the most terrifying thing I've read all year.
  14. My evil little Beagle is also called Moose: http://shanegowland.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/06/20140115_140518.jpg
  15. No, but I don't keep anything overly sensitive on my computer anyway.
  16. Brought to you by the developer of DarkComet RAT. Interesting article about it http://resources.infosecinstitute.com/darkcomet-analysis-syria/
  17. I suspect you're right Nergal. As someone who uses this business model, I can attest that it works wonderful.
  18. I'm using a Seagate GoFlex Home. I do not recommend it. At some point I intend to replace it with a Netgear drive bay, similar to the one mta has described. Unfortunately that requires cash, and I sadly spent all of mine
  19. I wish they would prioritize Google results over Bing's. The Bing (and by extension, Duck Duck Go) results for things I often search are totally irrelevant.
  20. Then I have different backup strategies for different data types: - Media and resources, to a Network Attached Storage drive using Windows Sync. - Code: GitHub, using GitHub for Windows - Websites/MySQL Databases: Dropbox, using WordPress Backup to Dropbox plugin - Documents: Google Drive, using the Google Drive Windows, Mac, Android and iOS apps. - Email: I automatically forward all email to a RoundCube install on a remote server. If you include my backups and replications, all of my data currently occupies over 10TB of disk space.
  21. When the original JavaRa developers tried to sell to Malwarebytes back in June 2011, they got this response: I wonder if this new product is the evolution of that idea. It would seem it was the driving force behind their recent acquisition of ZeroVulnerabilityLabs. Marcin Kleczynski is one of the few leaders in the security industry with any sort of long-term strategy. Kudos to him.
  22. All the people who use a product for thousands of hours then scream murder when the developer demands remuneration...
  23. I don't use traditional Anti-Malware software. I prefer to write/maintain my own security solution, which monitors the system in real-time (similar to WinPatrol). When an .exe, .bat, .dll or .com file is added to the system, or modified, my app sends it to a ClamAV server running on my network. Checksums are also compared against VirusTotal. As my security app does all its processing externally and has no user interface, the memory usage is minimal. 9MB at idle. I also keep Malwarebytes installed, but I haven't used it for months.
