  1. It could be. I ran ZHPCleaner while Steam was running and it didn't detect anything related.
  2. That's curious. I have several Steam games too but I don't get any registry values to clean here.
  3. I'd say once a day. Sometimes twice a day. Today the website seems to be down though.
  4. A word of caution for everyone using this software. Check carefully what you are about to remove. This software has got its share of false positives too.
  5. Yes they are very similar. But it seems ZHP scan is more thorough one.
  6. By the way. I think HBCD is discontinued. It's been a long time since an update.
  7. Damn it. I am not sure if posting these kind of threads is allowed here. If not, my apologies. And feel free to move this topic to the security section if applicable.
  8. Hello. http://www.nicolascoolman.fr/ Direct download link: http://www.nicolascoolman.fr/download/zhpcleaner-2/ This is a malware/pups/adware removal tool similar to Xplode's AdwCleaner. This one does a more thorough cleaning so, check the logs (and untick these items you don't want cleaned) before proceeding. It's gets updated A LOT. That means twice a day or so. When first run, it will install itself under the %APPDATA%\ZHP folder and it will create two shortcuts on desktop. To fully remove it,just delete those two shorcuts and the ZHP folder.
  9. I would check disk surface too. chkdsk /r
  10. As far as I know Windows Defender hasn't got any icon in system tray. I would be happy to know I am wrong though. To open its GUI I usually do the route Control Panel -> Windows Defender PS - I am talking about Windows 8.1 obviously.
  11. Thanks Hazelnut. I knew about that. I meant invoking the GUI and having an icon in system tray (like MSE does on Windows 7).
  12. I am now using Panda FreeAV 2015.1 edition. Seems quite good and lightweight. I have discarded (temporarily possibly) Windows Defender because there is no way to open a scan via a right click. It also seems both Panda and other detect some PUPs and adware too that MSE/WD doesn't.
  13. Try reducing Internet browsers cache size. They tend to be humongous by default. 200-300 MB should suffice. I have seen IE to build a cache as big as several gigabytes. Try reducing pagefile size too if it isn't needed. I have 8 GB RAM and my pagefile is 1GB in size. It can grow if needed though.

    Little bitty

Same. I didn't even noticed. LOL
  15. I use Java and I haven't seen (nor I want) Ask in ages.
  16. Thanks for hijacking my thread...
  17. Beware of Panda false positives. Unless you tick the option "ask before deleting a virus" it will delete some legit files without asking. Happened to me.
  18. Some AdFender tech told me next 1.84 version will support https filtering.
  19. Keep Windows Defender. It works well and it's really free and nag-free (also slimmer than the rest although not by much). Then, protect your browsers by running AdFender or some extension like AdBlockPlus (Firefox, Chrome) or uBlock (Chrome). Webmail ad blocker is also available for both Firefox and Chrome. And talking about AdFender. The neat thing is that is not an extension but a standalone program. It will work for all browsers (well, almost all) and messaging apps too. It shares the same lists as AdBlockPlus and, as such, you can add the same user filtering rules. Latest version is 1.83
  20. A very minor issue. Is it 2015 already, isn't it?
