2 years after no updates someone from piriform said "quite the contrary of abandoned" - in reality 6 years later still no updates so it's obviously abandoned

yup.. its sad because I still use Defraggler every day...

and I don't know of any other good defragging tools I can use.. lol

    as good as defraggler..

A point to note if that if you use 3rd party imaging tools (e.g. Macrium Reflect) some may feel System Restore is not needed, but only if you use another means of restoring your machine.

I don't bother with third party imaging tools..

I rely on good luck... lol..

so I won't be using CCleaner's driver updater goign forward because of this issue I mentioned with System restore always being re-enabled...

even when I disable it...  and will keep the version on my laptop at v6.02 before Piriform stared doing this on us...

Just for information in case anyone else sees this particular error:

I did some testing, rolling back to 6.04, checking for updates and updating to 6.05, rolling back again, checking again, and so on.
Eventually after 6 tries I did manage to replicate this error, but only that once and not again since.

When I did get the error simply closing CCleaner, then re-opening it and checking for updates again was all that was needed to get the update as normal.

ok I will keep that in mind. next time it happens if it does..

I remember you reported back in August that it was turning on System Restore everytime that you launched CCleaner.

That was fixed in v6.04 so that it no longer turns on everytime - but it still turns on if you do use the Driver Updater.
It's intended as a precaution so that you can do a restore if updating a driver has adverse effects.

I still don't like it being on... I can start in safemode if I have an issue to roll back a change..

I don't want it turning on System Restore every time I check for driver updates...

its eating up my write cycles of my Samsung EVO 970 NVMe SSD 1TB

  4. In the only place I know to check...

    System Advanced properties.

    C:\Windows\System32\SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe

    image.png.b67cd3d44f5b7529888ac66ca8cdbe8f.png

its off right now because I switched it off and have not launched CCleaner again since I last shut System Restore off.

    CCleaner (v6.03.10002)_setup(Pro) is causing it..

as I didn't see it happen in v6.02.. pretty sure..

but I have verified that its happening as I have re-disabled System Restore, launched CCleaner and rechecked the system restore to find it enabled

BUT! for only the C:\ drive.

  5. Every time I get a new update to CCleaner Pro,

the update process launched from within the app itself..

it loads the 64bit exe as soon as the 32bit exe is updated but now gives an error message to

retry or abort the install of the CCleaner64.exe..

    this happens every-time there is an update for the last hand full of updates to CCleaner...;

so what I have to do is manually close CCleaner64.exe and then click retry.. the installer finishes and exits.

    then CCleaner64.exe loads again..

    using Windows 11 Pro x64 v21H2 (build 22000.856)

feel free to ask for any additional info needed..

    please fix Piriform/CCleaner devs.

  6. With the release of CCleaner (v6.03.10002)

every time I load load CCleaner (x64)(pro mode) it re-enables the disabled Windows Restore feature..

    aka System Protection feature...

which will eat up my NVMe's write cycles...

    please fix.

    I am running Windows 11 Pro x64 v21H2 (build 22000.856)

    and CCleaner (v6.03.10002) (pro)

feel free to ask for more details if I missed anything...
