  1. Greenknight, I am using Windows 98.
  2. Oh, this is also the type of utility that I am looking for. Thanks klumy. The nice thing about it is that is is freeware. Zaphirer, no I'm not using PowerDVD player. I'm not sure what my DVD player is.
  3. Hi, I took a look at CCleaner main page, and it says that CCleaner has been updated on Jan 16th What's been updated? Has there been a bug fix? A new feature?
  4. It's not the hard drive space that is the issue at hand. I'm trying to understand just how I've managed to eat up so much space. I haven't done much to this computer in the past 2 years, so I'm not sure how I've managed to get up to 9 GB. Until I find out how this space has been taken up, I don't want to get a new hard drive just in case its space will get uselessly taken up as well. I guess I should have made a modification to my suggestion. Maybe just the top 50 programs or files that are taking up space should be listed. All I want to find out is which program of file has been gobbling up space on my hard drive. Yes, this is something that's along the lines of what I would like in CCleaner. I would like CCleaner just to list the files like this, not actually include a delete function that could interfere with proper function of the computer.
  5. A feature that allows you to WIPE your temporary internet files, index.dat files under ContentIE.5, or just about any other thing that you want to get rid (old programs, etc) If I am not mistaken, I believe that CCleaner only allows you to delete TIF and index.dat files, but it does not WIPE them.
  6. Hello. I have a suggestion that I hope could be implemented into the next version of CCleaner (if it is there already, please excuse me) I would like a feature that shows in numerical order which programs or anything else (log files, etc) are using up the most hard disk space on my computer. For example, the feature could be like this: 1. iTunes songs folder 2 GB 2. Windows 700 MB 3. Microsoft Office 300 MB 4. 5. 6. Camera Pictures folder 50 MB 100. CCleaner <1 MB I would like this feature because I am trying to figure out how my hard disk space has decreased over the years. When I right click Properties by the C drive, it shows that 9 GB of my 13 GB hard drive have been used up. I can't understand how I've managed to use up this much space. At most, I feel that 3-5 GB should be used up, and no more. I am kind of worried that I have some type of crapware or malfunctioning program on my computer that is generating log files or backups or something that is causing the computer's hard disk space to decrease. I would really really like if this simple feature could be included in the a CCleaner update so that I can understand how my hard disk space has been allocated to different programs and folders in a nice list
  7. Hello all. I used CCleaner for the first time yesterday to try and free up some space on my computer. The first thing I did was clean up my temporary internet files and index.dat files. In the few years that I've had my computer, I have not cleared out my index.dat files (I have cleared out TIF using Internet Explorer). So I was expecting them to hold about 200-300 MB of my old Internet files. However, CCleaner only showed that I had 0.31 MB from my TIF and index.dat files. I find this very hard to believe, given that I am the only one using this computer and that I have never cleared out my index.dat files in nearly 2 years. When I went to check my index.dat files after cleaning, it showed that it only had 32 KB. That sounds right...that's what I would expect after cleaning. I just don't understand how CCleaner did not manage to come up with more than just 0.31 MB. 0.31 MB is nothing. I almost positive that my index.dat files should have had more files in it. Everytime I used to scan my computer with an anti-virus, I could see it scanning the numerous 8 letter folders containing my old Internet files in the Content.IE5 folder. Could someone tell me if this could possibly be a bug in CCleaner? By the way, I am using Windows 98 and IE 6.0 with latest updates.
  8. Hi hazelnut. I looked at that link before. The SymNRT tool does not say that it can remove Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 9.0. If you look at the list, it can only remove: Norton AntiVirus 2004/2005/2006 Norton AntiVirus Professional 2004 Norton AntiVirus 3, 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005/2006 Norton GoBack 3.1/3.5/3.6/4.0/4.1 Norton SystemWorks 2004 Professional Edition Norton SystemWorks 2005/2006 Premier Norton SystemWorks 2004/2005/2006 Norton SystemWorks 2006 Basic Edition Norton Password Manager 2004 Norton Internet Security 2004/2005/2006 Norton Internet Security 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005/2006 Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition 8.2 Norton Personal Firewall 2004/2005/2006 Norton AntiSpam 2004/2005 Norton Ghost 2003/9.0/10.0
  9. Hello all. I am using Windows 98 and I have IE 6.0, with the latest updates from Microsoft. I recently developed a problem with Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 9.0. I noticed that the antivirus resident scanner was not automatically loading on Windows start-up. So when I went to Start-->All Programs-->NA CE to try and load the scanner manually, I received a notification that a criticall .dll file was missing. I was not able to access the program at all, so I decided to delete it and install AVG Free Edition. There is no Undelete NAV CE in the start menu, so I decided to go to Control Panel-->Add/Remove programs When I tried to uninstall NAV CE 9.0 in Add/Remove programs, Microsoft Windows Installer would pop up trying to install NAV CE! But since it could not find the installation files, it just closed the window. NAV CE still remained in the Add/Remove programs list. I tried re-booting in Safe Mode and removing NAV CE 9.0 in Add/Remove programs, and I still got the same problem! I am able to remove other programs using Add/Remove programs (although for some reason the Sunbelt anti-spyware trial version that I thought I long ago had deleted will not delete when I used Add/Remove programs. It has the same problem as the NAV CE when I try to uninstall it) Can someone help me out? How can I get rid of NAV CE 9.0 completely? I should mention, that I had a previous version of NAV CE installed before I upgraded it to NAV CE 9.0
  10. Hello all. First time poster here. I am using Windows 98 and I have IE 6.0, all with the latest updates from Microsoft. I have had a minor problem with IE 6.0 for sometime now. It seems that no matter what I do, Autocomplete still types in addresses on the address bar whenever I type in "www..." I have gone to Tools-->Internet Options-->Content-->Autocomplete and unchecked all the boxes and deleted both the Forms and Passwords. I have also gone to Internet Options and did Clear History. Still, I have these weird websites that will come up in the address bar when I type in "www...." (such as wasana.url when I type "w...") I have a program from Webroot that also clears the history files and temporary internet files (although it does not clear the index.dat and history.dat files). I notice that after I do this, most of the websites that may have shown up in the address bar when I was using IE did not appear again. Still, I have some websites that appear to stick (like the weird wasana.url address) I thought for the longest time that I had some type of spyware on my computer that had integrated into IE and kept track of my websites. I thought that maybe my browser was hi-jacked or something. But after numerous scans with multiple high quality virus scanners and spyware scanners showing no infections, I am beginning to think that this problem is due to a bug in IE or the IE cache files (the undeletable index.dat and history.dat files!!!!!!!) Does anyone know about this problem that I am speaking of? Would using CCleaner or any other program that gets rid of the .dat files help out?
