I agree, please add "Advanced Option" to Settings so it can be the DEFAULT display. Even more annoying is the slow speed. I analyze first. I use Chrome so there is almost nothing on IE 11. Still the icon spins and spins stuck on “IE history” for 15-20 seconds. But the results show that it is “Temporary Internet Files” that had 1KB in 1 File. That is what slows down cleaning; analyzing is just as fast as it used to be. But when running Ccleaner, it stalls on “IE History” for 15-20 seconds before it moves on and finishes. Even if IE History is not listed after analysis that is the file Ccleaner stalls on.

How do I go back to previous version? This new version is slow cleaning. I see others report slow analyzing, but I have mostly noticed very slow cleaning and the new interface is an awful idea. I also would like old summary list back please.

CCleaner sees my C and D drives as SSD but both are HDD. The hardware is WDC WD10EZEX-60ZF5A0 80.00A80 per Device Manager. I have a Windows 7 sp1 64 bit desktop computer - HP p6-2220t. Windows automatically defrags both so I’m really sure both are HDD. I found a brief discussion of this problem in this forum from 2014 but no resolution or plan to resolve the problem. I am using CCleaner 5.33.6162 (64-bit). I have never used the tool to wipe free space and was thinking of doing it when I noticed this. I just use normal file deletion and once a month when I am using financial records I use secure file deletion with simple overwrite. I have not had any problems but am interested in why CCleaner sees my drives as SSDs and if there is something I can do at my end. If I wanted to wipe free space would I be able to do it.

Most recent update 5.15.5513 (64bit) has CCleaner back to normal. No delay at opening. Pops right up.

I have installed the newest update (per hazelnut post 10/26/2015 @ 7:56 AM) and CCleaner is actually a little slower to pop up the first time. Update made it a little worse.

No Windows 10 related updates have been installed. Not a big problem but I came here to see if anyone else was having a similar experience after the last CCleaner update. I don’t think it is just a Windows 10 problem.

I should add the other suggestion to uncheck "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" in Chrome settings is also done. After I signed in I also opened Google Dashboard and I clicked “Stop and Clear” at the bottom of the Dashboard page. I then click “Disconnect from Google Account” and I was signed out from Chrome. I never normally sign in; I signed in only to make these changes. Still the only way to clean out history is to delete the history file manually and let Chrome rebuild it the next time it is opened.

Thank you very much. I would rather not have to do this manually but so far this does work. I have everything unsynced from my google account, that I only use for email, and history is still only removed when I delete the history file manually. I don't understand why ccleaner still says it deletes chrome history when it doesn't.

I have been to www.piriform.com/docs . I find only information on how to use Registry Cleaner to clean registry. I find no information on how to restore files I removed and saved to the backup file. Are there instructions somewhere that explain how to use CCleaner's Registry Cleaner function? If not, could someone just tell me how to restore files I cleaned and saved and would like to restore? To: Nergal If you are saying CCleaner does not clean C:\Windows\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\SCHEMA.DAT , then that answers my question. I knew it cleaned Index.dat files so I wondered if it was also cleaning schema.dat file. Now I know I am not causing the corruption by overwriting the file when I run CCleaner. For example, if I check MS Search in CCleaner, the next time I start my computer I get string of errors in the Event Viewer about "Search Index" and then it is restored. I wondered, if CCleaner was cleaning SCHEMA.DAT, maybe the same thing was happening and it was nothing to worry about. It is supposed to happen because I cleaned it. Now I understand CCleaner is not cleaning it and something else is corrupting SCHEMA.DAT. I agree it seems to be related to "The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from demand start to auto start". Unfortunately HP thinks it may be a bad motherboard or processor because this same Kernel-General seems to be involved when the fan on my computer sometimes comes on loud (racing) when I turn it on in the morning. A simple restart fixes it and the fan sound is normal and quiet. It is the loud fan that started this whole thing and caused me to discover the Kernel-General error. I was just hoping it was something simple that I was doing myself, unknowingly, so I did not have to send my computer to HP for two weeks to find out what is wrong. I was trying, badly apparently, to explain to Hazelnut that I did not think I needed to completely uninstall CCleaner as it is not in the startup list and could not be causing any problems at start up. I open it when I use it from the desktpo icon. Finally, I turn my computer on in the morning and off at night. In between I am on and off the internet many times surfing the internet. My previous habit was to always clean before turning the computer off and depending on the amout of surfing I might clean it during the day as well. Hope this clears all issues up for you.

To: Hazelnut CCleaner is not on my Start Up list. At the end of a session I double click the icon on my desk top and run it. Just the Cleaner, for routine cleaning of the junk I pick up on the internet. I was really just asking if SCHEMA.DAT was one of the files the cleaner was overwriting and that is why it kept needing to be recovered. I don't know what exact files the cleaner overwrites. I am asking if CCleaner is doing this or if there is some other cause. I have CCleaner 3.18.1707 (64 bit) They are not Flash cookies. They are all IE cookies. They vary depending on where I've been. I use CCleaner frequently so none are ever more than 24 hours old. I just do not know where CCleaner finds them and deletes them. I used to be able to go and see cookies were removed, can't do that with Windows 7, don't know where they are or were. Computer>OS C:>Users>mpw>cookies = access denied Computer>OS C:>Users>mpw>AppData>Local>Temp>Cookies = index.dat file only. No cookies. But CCleaner will show several to be deleted.

I have Windows 7 (64 bit) and use IE9 (64bit). When I use Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Delete and check all boxes, this does not delete all cookies. I go to CCleaner>Options>Cookies and there are many that are not removed. But when I search my C: drive they are nowhere to be found even when I untick "Hide protected operating system files" and tick "Show hidden files, folders and drives" I know after I run CCleaner the cookies are removed. When I go back to CCleaner>Options>Cookies they are all gone. But I am curious where they are stored on Windows 7 until I remove them with Ccleaner. I used to be able to find them on Windows XP. Also when I click CCleaner>Analyze no cookies are listed, but they are listed in Options>cookies and they are removed when I run the cleaner.

What does "FTP Account cleaning" in CCleaner v2.36.1233 do? I need more of an answer than it cleans the FTP Account. What is the FTP Account and is it safe to wipe it out at the end of each session? Thank you.

OK, never mind, this is a unique bazaar quirk of only my computer and it has never happened before and no one has any idea why some of my Favorites suddenly disappear and apparently there is no solution. If I want to use CCleaner I must tolerate the sudden disappearance of Favorites from time to time.

OK. I just went to Favorites to click the link for "NY Times" and it has disappeared again. This never happened until I started using CCleaner. Is there no one who can tell me what to turn off so the cleaner stops knocking out my saved links?

For some reason CCleaner erased two Favorites. One each on two separate cleanings. "ABC News" disappeared before the last update and "NY Times" disappeared after the latest update. Just all of a sudden I went to click a Favorite and it was gone. I think these are the only two, although I have many and may later discover others. Has this happened before? Is there a way to fix this or exclude Favorites from cleaning? Does this have anything to do with cleaning the Prefetch? I am using IE 8 and Windows XP Sp3. Thank you.
