  1. Never mind! Although I had reinstalled CCleaner, I did not first uninstall it; just ran a re-installation, thinking it would overwrite the original installation. Apparently doesn't do that. After uninstalling (thoroughly. . . using Revo Uninstaller), then doing a fresh install, CCleaner now works.
  2. I've used CCleaner free for at least 10 years and have never had a problem with it not running. . . until today. Have the latest version (5.7). It starts to run the Cleaner, the progress bar gets about 1/2 way across, and a message pops up saying "CCleans has stopped working". I have rebooted the computer tried to run CCleaner in Safe Mode reinstalled it uninstalled an optional Windows update that I installed just before running CCleaner disabled Avast before running CCleaner run Avast and Malwarebytes scans. Neither finds anything. run a System Restore (to recommended point) None of this solved the issue. My OS on this computer is Win 7. I also have it on my laptop, which runs Win 10. CCleaner works on it. What's wrong?
  3. CCleaner notified me a few minutes ago that ver. 5.02 was available. Download it. Won't install; progress bar moves <1/4" and stops. OS is Win 7 64-bit.
  4. My AV is Avast. I recently ran CCleaner's registry cleaner and it identified 4 items to delete. Clicked "Fix selected issues", they disappear from the list, but when I run it again, they're still there. I've attached a screen dump showing what they are (3 are "ActiveX/COM" and one is an "Invalid file reference". Tried going into the registry and manually deleting them, but access is denied. My guess is that these registry entries are valid and required by Avast. . . but why is CCleaner identifying them as invalid AND will not delete them? CCleanerWontDelete.doc
  5. My AV is Avast. In the last few runs of CCleaner's registry fixer, 4 registry items related to Avast keep coming up as invalid, but when I select 'Fix selected issues'. . . it doesn't "fix" them. Next time I do a scan, same items come up. See attached file. Why does CCleaner keep bringing these up, but is unable to delete them. I also used regedit to try to delete them, even with Avast's shields disabled, and the system denied my request. ???? CCleaner issues.doc
  6. OK, so I was correct that it is associated with Norton Security Suite. The info in the thread you referenced further indicated that it was associated with the Backup feature of NSS, which I don't use. In any case, after posting the thread, it occurred to me that I might be able to get rid of it by booting into Safe Mode, then running CCleaner's registry cleaner. Guess what? That worked (subsequent registry scans do not bring it up), and has had no effect on NSS working properly. So the problem is solved. Thanks for the quick response.
  7. For at least a couple of months now, CCleaner's registry cleaner identifies "HKCR\Interface\{F0E3A5D7-80C7-4228-90FE-61DF01C417A5}" as an entry that shouldn't be there. It tell it to fix it and it disappears from the list. However, an immediate rescan finds the same entry. I went to the entry in regedit and tried to delete. Denied. Changed permissions on it to allow me to have full control. Tried again to delete. No go. Even ran Dial-a-fix, Tools, Repair permissions. Still can't delete the file. One comment and one question: If CCleaner cannot delete a registry entry, it should say so. With this entry, it SAYS it's gone, but either it's not or some background program recreates it immediately. The question: How do I get rid of this entry... or is the system telling me I shouldn't? BTW, I can't swear to this, but I think this started happening right after I installed Norton Security Suite for Comcast (which I get free). Is this undeletable entry Symantec's fault?
