  1. Ah, that would explain some of the weird values I've seen. I installed one program on my computer that took about 4 MBs and Add/Remove listed it as 3,500 MBs!! Guessing indeed...
  2. Exploding batteries again... doesn't anybody know how to make a good battery?!
  3. Thanks for the info, Glenn. I am a bit confused though. Judging by the info you listed, it doesn't sound like a new chip at all; it is simply a new way of cooling a processor. The article mfenech linked to stated that not only was this a new chip, but it could potentially be on the market in 1-2 years! How on Earth could a company manage to design a cooling system or supercool running chip that operates at near absolute zero in just a couple years?! Something doesn't add up... I'm wondering if perhaps this new chip (assuming it isn't a hoax) is actually a totally new processor design, as opposed to just some super low-temperature cooling system, which I don't see showing up commercially any time soon! Notice that cooling isn't mentioned at all. It makes me wonder...
  4. Why that's.... that's brilliant! I wonder how many guys have unloaded and then wondered why in the hell the fly is just sitting there taking it?!
  5. My friend emailed me that exact same article, but that is the only place I have heard of this so far, so I'm inclined to believe it is a fake, or highly overexaggerated. If these guys really knew of a new chip technology that was 250 times faster than current chips, you'd think they would know a little more about it....
  6. No problem. I'm sure your first build will turn out awesome!
  7. The change log from the official CCleaner homepage: By updated, MrG is saying it was fixed, so no worries! As long as you aren't using version 1.27, you shouldn't have any Hotfix Uninstaller errors.
  8. Hey Stephen, I haven't tested out either of the parts you are mentioning, but as long as your motherboard has parallel ATA ports and your power supply has molex connectors (four holes in a horizontal line), those drives will both work fine (and almost all mobos / PSUs have these connections). Out of those two drives, I personally like the ASUS one better (larger cache and faster access times). The retail drive should include everything you need, but it would be best to check the description and the pictures to see what all it includes. The OEM drive will most likely only include the drive, and nothing else. Either way, you don't need to worry about buying power cables, as those are built into your PSU, although with the OEM drive, you may need to invest in a PATA data cable. With SATA, there is no primary/secondary/master/slave. Every drive is independent of the other. And your floppy drive does not use the same cable as your optical/hard drive. A floppy cable is slightly less wide, has less pins, and has a section in it that is twisted. See pictures: Parallel floppy drive cable Parallel hard drive / optical drive cable Serial hard drive / optical drive cable So, if you bought one floppy drive, one parallel optical drive, and one serial optical drive, they would all use separate cables. However, if you had two parallel optical drives, and no serial drives, you could put both parallel drives on the same cable (although your floppy would still need a different cable). Let me know if this helps .
  9. I totally agree. As long as that is the ONLY thing they are looking for... But I do have one question: You (Tarun) stated that you didn't download/install it, and you have no intentions of doing so. I was under the impression that this particular WGA tool was a required download if you want to get any updates in the future. I thought it was basically a matter of either download it or receive no further Microsoft Update support. Was I wrong? Will you still receive Windows Updates even if you don't use this tool to prove to Microsoft that your copy of Windows is genuine?
  10. Thanks for that, Mudd. I was going to block it with my ZoneAlarm, but I didn't know if MS would give me warnings about that, so I didn't mess with it. Armed with that info, I'll make sure to deny it permission! And I totally agree with Eldmannen. Whether or not your non-MS software is legit, it isn't any of Microsoft's damn business!! And who is to say that they only look at what software you have? What is keeping them from viewing your personal data as well? Sure, it seems silly to accuse a major corporation of illegally viewing your hard drive's contents, but since nobody is allowed to view the source code, how would we ever know? Makes you wonder....
  11. And then lokoike goes over to the trash when nobody is looking and picks them out because he can't afford food now that he went and spent an exhorbatent sum of money on a shiny new computer. (I'll post the specs as soon as I've finished building it) @ mambonike: Have you recently installed any software that runs in the background, such as a P2P/torrent app (Shareaza, Limewire, etc.) or a firewall? The reason I ask is because these programs can hog a lot of resources and slow down your computer significantly. It can also cause temporary, periodic bottlenecks in games, which is what your problem seems to be (assuming I read it right ). Try to get back to us whenever you get a chance. We'd love to help you out!

    Cheap Sofa!

Our prices are So faKing Low... Don't worry, it took me a while too.
  13. Way to help out Deano there, Dj. Actually, what zaph said made perfect sense. If Deano's decompression program (WinZip or WinRAR or the basic WinXP zip opener, etc.) is set to extract files to the "Temp" folder, obviously CCleaner would remove the files in that folder. And, if the Deano got the files for Incredimail in a zipped file, as opposed to an installer, he very easily could have accidently extracted them into the "temp" folder by accident. Assuming that the Incredimail program was running while Deano ran CCleaner, the program itself would not have been touched, but if the emails themselves are saved as a separate file, they could have easily been deleted. @ Deano: Is there any other software you have recently installed or used around the same time you installed CCleaner? Also, does Incredimail have an option to change the location of the emails on the hard drive? If it does, and if the current location is listed as "C:\ Windows\ Temp\", you should change it to something else (such as My Documents) to prevent any further deletions. CCleaner is designed to clean out temporary junk, and any program that purposefully saves important files in that directory is not designed too well!

    MS Website

OMG LOL!!! Thanks for the laugh d00d! @ K: I don't seem to be having any troubles now, so I would imagine it was just a *burp* on their end.
  17. I was more thinking along the lines of "special brownies"...
  18. Yeah, I actually love Nvidia's new cards, I was just returning the crap to kk56 (he's a big Nvidia fan ). Excellent review of products, zaph! Couldn'tve said it better myself! My only disagreement (and it is just a small one, but I figure I'll give a second opinion) is: Seagate is probably THE BEST hard drive you can buy right now. That 750 GB perpendicular drive that just came out was a Seagate, and since then, they have come out with a dozen other perpendicular drives, which means far greater storage at lower cost to both you and them! I personally just bought a pair of perpendicular storage 320 GB Seagate HDs with 16 MB caches, and I can't wait to test them out! Not to mention, Seagate makes the most stable drives; they come with a 5 year warranty!!! For some things, warranty isn't a big deal, but since hard drives contain all of your priceless data, drive stability is a major selling point, and Seagate offers that. Anyways, hope your comp is coming together well, neighberaaron. I hate furbies.
  19. So DJ, when you makin' us brownies?
  20. Oh, and by the way, whatever you do, DO NOT buy an Nvidia graphics card, as they are total crapfests. j / k
  21. Well, I don't know if this would sway your father's opinion any, but I personally have spent around $5,000 at Newegg.com in the last 6 months, building computers for people professionally. Newegg NEVER sends parts late, Newegg NEVER sends parts damaged (that is, damage due to improper packaging or shipping on their part), and Newegg has an excellent user base that rates parts and lists their pros and cons, so you can always be sure you are making a well informed decision before spending money. If you truly wanted to buy your parts at a store, I can assure you that you would probably spend anywhere from 30-50% more on the same parts! For example, a 300 GB Maxtor HD on Newegg might be $90, while at Staples, it would be $160. And yes, it really is that big of a price difference! Not to mention, by choosing to shop at a store instead of online, your selection is EXTREMELY limited!! You will end up with less than the best, and a dream rig shouldn't have to suffer that fate. Happy shopping!
  22. I'm excited about the startup speed increase. Thanks for the update, MrG!
  23. Buy from New Egg, my man! Every computer I've ever built (and I've made quite a few) has been constructed of parts mainly from that website. My recommendations to your are: get a motherboard that supports dual-core, even if you can only afford a single-core proc right now. Dual-core is the future, and you want your board to be upgradable. Make sure you board supports AMD, instead of Intel. This is actually more of a preference, but Intels generally run waaaay too hot, whereas your AMD will run cool and last for years. Every computer I've ever built has used AMD, and I am definitely impressed! For RAM, no less than a gig, although if you've got $1000 to work with, I would go with 2 gigs. In fact, if you have to shave a little off of the cost of the video card and \ or CPU, I would do it if it means having 2 GBs instead of 1. More RAM will give you a huge performance boost. RAM companies I like are Corsair, Kingston, and Crucial. Hard drive is pretty much up to you. The higher the RPMs (5400, 7200, 10000, etc.) and cache (2 MB, 8 MB, 16 MB), the faster your hard drive will be. Space is totally dependant on how much you will use. Seagate gives you a 5 year warranty, so they are probably the most dependable drive you will find. Optical drive is also up to you. I generally put that last on my list of importance, but if you do a lot of burning, you may want to spend more. Plextor and Sony are probably the best companies (and also most expensive), while companies like NEC, BenQ, and LiteOn will give you a slightly slower, but still good, product. And video card is also dependant on what you will do. The only suggestion I will give you when it comes to video is to go PCI-Express, as opposed to AGP. AGP boards are quickly disappearing, so you will want your motherboard to support your PCI-E card, since that is the new standard. Good luck, and feel free to post any other questions you may have!
  24. Actually, I came up with those on my own. I had all 12 brain cells working overtime on that one. True, religion is man-made. But you also realize that evolution is man-made, as well as Big Bang. Charles Darwin wasn't "divinely inspired". He just made up a hypothesis. I have also read literature stating ways that we can currently disprove evolution! Here is one interesting page that I found searching right now: http://www.unmaskingevolution.com/book.htm Here is a quote from it: There are other interesting points given on that page as well, and you can read the book (as a PDF) for free. Facts like that prevent evolution from being a "theory". It is still a hypothesis, because no one can reason away those facts. Now, of course, you could tell me that my sources are bad, and that that book is full of lies, but then I could say the same about your "sources" which you don't list. The only way for me to truly disprove evolution is for me to go out and re-run all of these tests. As far as all of the skeletons go, that isn't proof in the slightest. Fragments of skeletons are found, and for some reason, that is considered a good enough reason to teach a disproven hypothesis in schools. I have seen no facts, just hypotheses and ideas. That isn't enough to make it a theory. And if the only transitional forms of creatures that evolutionists can find are ones they create (see link), then that is a theory that I won't be putting my trust in!
