    New PC?

Might be a stupid question. When is it time to get a new PC? Our pc is almost 5 years old. Don't seem to have any major problems with it. Seems to run fine. Our kids use it to primarily check out web pages and I use it mostly for surfing and for my business. What are the signs when it's time to get a new pc? Honestly I don't want to spend the money if I can help it. Take Care, Marc
  2. Hi Krak thanks but it won't work because it says that I must remove Nortaon in add/remove programs. I'm not able to remove Norton from add/remove. Marc

Norton Anti Virus Corporate Edition The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

  9. Hi anyone else having problems with ad-aware? when I click updates it's coming up "the downloaded definitions file could not be read, please update again". not able to update? Marc
  10. I like the old one way better, much faster. Marc
  11. something I'm not clear on... are you suppose to run Housecall in both IE and FF? in other words start the scans in both IE and FF browsers? Marc, from the USA
  12. Hi Mike, I use primarily FF but still have IE(just in case FF doesn't work). Also have Ad-Aware SE Personal. I'm not very versed with PC's and such is why I am asking for help. Are you saying that House call is better than Ad-Aware? If so just to re-iderate.... unistall Ad-Aware if I want to use housecall? You also talked about the IE version, what is that? Marc
  13. Hi, as suggested running House Call/Trend Micro. does it generally take that long to scan? seems like a real long time to scan and detect. Marc

  15. following the direction. downloaded edwido but it keeps closing. Marc
  16. thanks hazelnut, ran ad-aware again and no detections. I think the detections may have to do with my brother surfing the web. I looked in my history lists and saw some porn sites. I have never looked in a porn site, but suspicious my brother is. we share this pc, will him looking at porn sites harm our pc? Marc
  17. just ran ad-aware it detected 2 critical objects and mlu's? removed them then ran it again. after running it again no critical objects...so ad-aware is removing them. my concern is what's causing these critical objects? Marc
  18. Hi and thanks for all the advice. I have been running Ad-Aware a couple of times since I've installed it. It has detected critical objects and then I remove them. I share this PC with my brother. Now it's great that ad-aware is detecting and removing(I hope)... BUT how can one avoid getting these critical objects in the first place? I'm sure although ad-ware removes them it is still harmful for your pc? or is it safe to say that let ad-aware remove critical objects and keep going as "business as usual"? what causes these critical objects? Marc
  19. Hi, Have been using CC for a bit. Is there a set of weekly maintenance things in addition to CC that one should be doing to keep their PC clean and running the way it should. Regards, Marc

    Why CC?

in other words I'm not sure about deleting files permanately. I know I don't want to delete cookies cause of the many sites I frequent with saved user name and passowrds. Marc

    Why CC?

Thanks TwistedMetal, Now was getting ready to run CC and I saw something about Cookies. There are many sites that I have "remember password and user name". What do I need to do so CC doesn't get rid of these for me? And, to get rid or clean all other stuff, besides cookies? I'm an amateur and want to make sure that I'm not cleaning stuff that I'll need. Thanks, Marc

    Why CC?

Hi all, Would like to say I'm a complete amateur. Currently I use a weekly maintenance agenda that was recommended to me. Here's the link to the weekly maintenance check list... http://campus.murraystate.edu/technical/ma...e/ten_steps.htm Someone suggested I use CC. Why would CC be beneficial? What is CC, I have looked at the site? Does one use CC in conjunction to a weekly maintenance check list? Why would I need CC? Marc
