  1. Thank you once again codon for sticking with this and continuing to make good progress, despite the criticisms. I understand you are trying to write in a foreign language which cannot be easy. Just rise above and please continue. You are helping piriform and everyday users of CCleaner, for which I am grateful.
  2. You have quoted the piriform site and not me. This is known as a "straw man" argument. I suggest you read that post again. Here I was agreeing with a moderator on the forum, how you twist this into a claim of trolling is beyond me. I think this is a case of "you protesting too much" (if you understand that term). See below. "I THINK" (very important part of that sentence). Where did I say it was ? Quote me or retract and apologise. The quote was to demonstrate CCleaners claims of privacy, nothing to do with last access date. Please quote where I said "Last Accessed Date" will actually reveal the contents of deleted files or retract and apologise. I see you choose to snipe at me from the sidelines and when you are asked to provide evidence for your accusations you hide away. You have yet to summon the fortitude to reply to post #11. I see you lost the courage to retain your post #20 where you mocked the moderators over zealousness. Ironic you accuse others of trolling, here are a selection of aggressive (trolling) opening lines from YOU to me whilst I have been a member here. None of which you were able to back up when challenged to do so. I have been nothing other than polite here, I challenge you to quote me where I have not been ! You most certainly do, yet again !!
  3. He tells you why he had to do it, he was suffering the same deliberate misinterpretation I am having to endure. He felt more confident having to twist words with the trolls in his own language, poor guy was only trying to help ! I am calm. If you read my posts in a calm way you cannot in all honesty say I am doing anything other than joining in the discussion. I cannot understand why you would make such an unsubstantiated claim, I appreciate your friends with the long term members here but it is not fair to abuse your position. I would be interested to see how you are misinterpreting my posts. Please quote some better examples where your accusation is more clear. You are projecting your own personality and perception onto my posts. Normal users to me is just the everyday joe public, humble users not a computer expert, long term CCleaner expert or moderator etc. It seems as if a few here are deliberately trying to misinterpret things that are said, why is this ? I hope posts are left unedited so we can clearly see the truth. I suspect you will indeed close the thread as reading through it all kind of proves my point. I would however like to be able to reply to Alan_B as he has demonstrated more trolling behavior towards myself than anyone else on this forum. I hope you have the good conduct as a moderator to allow that. It would also be nice to see a bit of impartiality and equal moderation. I suggest you take another read through the entire thread and reprimand those that deserve it. It would also surprise you to read my posts without the unwarranted ill mannered attitude you have attached to them. Perhaps then you might realise I have been trying to help here ! Good grief ....
  4. When wiping an entire drive provide option for random single pass. Zero pass is OK but a random one has some theoretical benefits (on magnetic media). A further benefit of a random pass is for Truecrypt users. Plausible deniability. Make formatting after a drive wipe an option. This again will help Truecrypt users with plausible deniability. It also makes it simpler for the user to see that the entire drive has been overwritten when viewing with a hex editor. Possibility to clean an attached boot drive. To make this request clear, allow the user to boot with their C drive and then attach a drive from another computer (containing an OS) and be able to clean it as it it were the local drive. Obviously there will be some limitations to this. Option to remove Meta data from office files and pictures. Removal from PDF's would also be a nice feature. The ability to remove multiple instances would be very useful, allow a user to select a folder and remove all meta data from the files and folders within. To be honest the meta data removal should be a major priority, many people have little or no idea the amount of information they unwittingly send along with word docs and pictures etc.
  5. Hello Andavari I am very sorry I didn't notice your post until now, thank you for your help and reply. I had managed to work it out but it is good of you to post to show others.
  6. THANK YOU VERY MUCH CODON !!!! Awesome work ! Please do not allow Nergal to deter you from your efforts to help us. He openly admits and seems proud of his demeanor " Interests:being grumpy ". So on behalf of the normal members here who just want to get CCleaner fixed thank you and please continue.
  7. Well spotted Mike ! Thank you for taking the time to report the bug.
  8. Thats quite a serious accusation, please quote your evidence or withdraw your comment. Posting unsubstantiated claims is not conduct expected of a moderator. Again you are misrepresenting, only one of the three quotes is from the business pages. To further compound your misjudgment the CCleaner core is the same on both free and commercial versions, so the quote is relevant.
  9. Oh dear, this is a little confusing. I was quite prepared to believe Nergal when he said... If Nergal's assessment of CCleaner was accurate, then I would have expected other moderators to back his statement especially after I pointed out the inconsistencies with the text on the piriform site. However now it seems as if you are trying to cover over the subject. As Nergal's assessment and piriforms statements are so dissimilar, who are you suggesting the public should believe now ? Nergal or piriform ? As for those asking to provide code. The fact that this privacy omission has been around for about 3 years, at least, tells us something about the incumbent testing team. To expect new members to provide all code for the fixes, immediately is not realistic is it ? Repeatedly asking codon to provide you with code is not fair, he has pointed out the bug and taken the time to explain it very well I think. Have you considered the fact he may not know exactly where all the data resides ?
  10. Found another one... From here.. http://www.piriform.com/business/ccleaner-benefits More... From here.. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
  11. Found another one... From here.. http://www.piriform.com/business/ccleaner-benefits
  12. I think we can all agree with your assessment of CCleaner. However I think the following text is misleading users. Taken from here... http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
  13. There are other missed privacy issues also ... http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=37073&st=0
  14. @radonflex Great first post !! Welcome to the forum. @codon Again great work, its nice to see that someone is fixing this. You have already gone beyond what I was finding. Thank you for your efforts.
  15. @codon Well codon you seem to have everyone "All Shook Up" (Elvis). In my effort to "Stay Clean" (Motorhead) I realise CCleaner is just "Not Enough" (Van Halen). It was good of you to recommend a "Substitute" (The Who) but you were treated like a "Smooth Criminal" (M.Jackson). Perhaps you need to be "Going Underground" (The Jam) when you next recommend a "Fix" (Sisters Of Mercy) you might do better sending a "Message in A Bottle" (The Police) or perhaps a simple PM next time. You could do it "Time After Time" (Cyndi Lauper) but I guess if you do you might get sent to " San Quentin" (Johnny Cash). Thanks for sticking with this problem and helping everyone here. You are a "Hero" (Bonnie Tyler).
  16. codon once agian thank you for your work !! I love the musical references ! This is the most significant upgrade for CCleaner in a long time and you have been entirely responsible for it. Well done and thank you very much for sharing. As for your last "sarcasm" point, it would appear that you do indeed have the biggest one here !!! ha ha !
  17. Thank you for posting again codon and for still trying to help everyone with this problem !
  18. I think he was trying to show us with the highlighted menu selection in the picture he posted. English is not his first language. He was right, that software works and does remove the nessary files. Thanks codon, you found the problem and took the time to come back with a solution !
  19. Ha ha OK, I have done it for you. Why so shy about contacting nirsoft ? The more that do, the better, as it is more likely to inspire Nir to reply or join in here.
  20. Thank you for this information I hadn't realised CCleaner wasn't open for review. I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned from this. Exactly Especially when reading this statement on the Piriform site..... I have been working today but I have managed to test quite a few versions back from the link supplied by Alan_B. It would appear that this is not a recently introduced bug as I first assumed or hoped. It seems to have been a privacy oversight which has passed unnoticed for about 3 years !!! Someone once said about encryption software that there is "no security by obscurity", I think it would be fair to say that statement could be applied to privacy software also.
  21. Not sure I understand "Your concerns do not seem rational." Please elaborate where you believe I was irrational ? I am sorry but I do not see this as relevant, Nirsoft shows them and that's enough surly ? As far as I am aware a forensic examination was not carried out, codon simply downloaded a publicly available free application and ran it. There was no mention of a forensic examination unless codon is a forensic examiner in which case I apologise. The information codon gave on this thread lead me to believe this was not data residing in the free space or recovered with magnetic force microscopy, it appeared to be just plainly omitted by CCleaner. My suggestion was in an effort to help the developer find where the bug was introduced as per my post. I have beta tested many applications in the past and I know just how easy introducing a bug can be when applying new features. If you are asking me to do it I suppose I can but I would have thought there was already a beta testing team here isn't there ? I wonder if you would be kind enough to tell me who organises the testing team as I may offer to help. Is there a downloadable list of previous bug reports available with fixes listed for the last 3 years ? Thanks for your help.
  22. I wonder if this is a bug that has recently been introduced to CCleaner ? I just cannot imagine these areas have been completely missed for 3 years win7 has been out. Surly someone would have noticed CCleaner wasn't working during this time, I just find it too hard to believe. I am considering this is a possibility and thought it may help the developer track the bug down. Has anyone tested CCleaner before and found that it does actually clear out history etc ? If so what was the last version of CCleaner that worked ?
  23. Thank you codon for your post and bug report. Until now I simply assumed CCleaner was working but using the tool you linked to I discovered many files and folder names going back to my first install !! I have never had system restore enabled ....not ever ! yet I still find the same privacy leaks you do. I have just performed a full MFT wipe and free space wipe also but Nirsoft still finds these old files and folders. Many of which are to now deleted files, some are from files deleted from external drives which themselves have been wiped. I would love to know how to stop windows (Win7 64bit) from storing this junk in the first place but also is there a temporary workaround until CCleaner is fixed ? I have tried the third party plugins (Winapp2.ini) with all options checked and still it fails to remove this history.
  24. Ahh I see that explains it, I understand now and I wish I had asked much earlier as I have been puzzling over this for some time ! Thank you very much for your help.
  25. Ah yes the dreaded "user error". There are already many settings within ccleaner that can cause some data loss to an extent so I guess we are already living with this possibility. I suggest a pop up warning like we get on some of the other settings may be called for. Looks like we have a plan !
