  1. It don't let me get into Safe Mode now or before this problem. Thats how this happened, me trying to find a way into safe mode.

I've not changed the boot skin with any type of program.

iirc, you press f1 a lot of times and a menu appears that lets you chose how to boot. you have to do this before the Windows booting screen shows up.

  2. Is explorer.exe running? If not try starting it by going in the process manager and going to file>Run(new task)

Or try pressing F5 untill you get to the safe mode screen. See if you can boot to regular safe mode and change the setting.

i dont understand how explorer.exe would be running since he doesnt get to the Windows Login screen(winlogin.exe calls explorer.exe)

@LEEnoble: try booting into safe mode and change the boot settings back to the way they were.

btw:have you used BootSkin or StyleXP to change your boot screen?

  3. there's a program called Replacer which saves me the trouble of doing that :P

edit:wow this is interesting. the problem was that there were 2 uxtheme files. one at C:\WINDOWS and one at C:\WINDOWS\system32. the problem was that the one at C:\WINDOWS shouldnt have been there. i just killed explorer, deleted it, and the taskbar was fixed. very interesting...

  4. i just replaced the uxtheme.dll file with the new one that can support msstyle themes. however i am having trouble with it. the only problem that i see is that it does not skin the taskbar. does anyone know how to fix this?

  5. i recently installed a program called something toolbar and it's been pissing me off. when i log on to my account, the CPU usage goes to 100% and i cant do anything about it. i logged on to my dad's account and it also activated but it didnt cause problems on that so i removed its entry from the registry. i tried logging again to my account and the problem still persists. the CPU usage doesnt go to 100% but the program is not running. anyone have any thoughts?

edit:just so you guys know, the program is not spyware. it has a few awards on some websites such as softpedia.

  6. Playing with WB5, and I really like it so far. Not a resource hog anymore thats for sure!

how the hell did you make it change the icons?

  7. CCleaner doesnt remove every trace of the uninstalled programs. i have to do that myself by cleaning out the registry's Software keys, the Application Data folder, the Common Files Folder, the Program Files folder, and sometimes others. if you do this, you might be able to give a +5GB to your HD's storage space like i did.

    edit:@Eldmannen's ideas

    - what's the point of connection to the website via SSL. all that would do is make MrG pay more money for the website(SSL costs plenty of cash).

    - again what is the point of using hashes? are you gonna send em over the internet using encrypted email?

    - i dont think it will every happen because it would take MrG far too much time and besides, what's wrong with Visual Basic(besides the fact that it's a kiddy language)

    - very nice idea :)

  8. A lot of users are reporting the massive slowdown because of it.

Even I experienced it, and I find Firetune is far better.

    hmm. i dont experiance anything.

also back at the topic, i read somewhere that mozilla added some stuff to firefox that reads everything on a webpage to help out blind users.

  9. i use

    - Adblock Plus (based on AdBlick)

    - ChatZilla (XUL IRC Client)

    - CustomizeGoogle (adds javascript features to google.com)

    - Download Manager Tweak (gives a lot of features to Firefox's built in downloader)

    - Fasterfox (network tweaking extension)

    - FireFTP (FTP Browser)

    - FlashGot (integrates firefox w/ download managers)

    - FoxyTunes (lets you control your favorite media player from firefox)

    - IETab (browse pages with IE in a firefox tab)

    - Mimetype Editor (edits what firefox does to files w/ diffrent MIME types)

    - MinimizeToTray (minimizes firefox to the tray)

    - MR Tech's Local Install (this is an extension which combines about 10 extensions into 1. very useful)

    - PDF Download (gives options on what to do with PDF Files. also parses the PDF file as HTML)

    - Spellbound (Spell checking extension)

    - Tabbrowser Preferences (extension to modify firefox tabs)

  10. depends. KDE comes with a few pieces of software such as a pdf reader, office, games, and pretty much other stuff. not sure about GNOME though cause i've never used it.

  11. lets see. avshelltxt.dll wont show up on Windows Task Manager because a program has loaded it into memory which pretty much means it's in use. when a file is in use, you cant delete it(well you can in Linux but not Windows). the only way to do this is through DOS(if you have it installed). if you dont, you can use a linux boot cd to erase the folder and all the contents but i havent used it so i dont know how to do it that way.

as for the second problem, DOS or Linux boot cd.
