Gutman is also overkil for hard disks...soft disks, like USB sticks and memory cards yes, hard disks no...unless you are scared that they will use an electron microscope to determine what was on your drive (yes, they do this...I am a digital forensics major...but is it EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE...not really used for criminal research).

 

If you are that paranoid, look up jetico software and use active wiping in BCWipe. CCleaner could probably look to this to see some new options in the environment. However...wiping caches while caches are in use gives stange and essoteric results....

[Remove/Replace M$ version of defrag...]

Several suggestions to have defraggler replace itself as the default defragmentation tool:

1) when I open the defrag from drive properties, start defraggler

2) If I have a previous schedule set for M$ defrag...turn it off (based on the GUID of the defrag product)

3) in doing #2, it would also be be benificial to recreate the same schedule with a run of defraggler

 

Note on 2) when this is set up, it can cause disk overwork. This is especially true when move large files to end of disk is used. M$ defrag will undo the work defraggler did...causing it move them all over again upon re-running. That is a lot of disk movement that is unnecessary...

[Defrag MFT & Directories]

Doing the MFT would require that the programmers create the tool to be run as the shell, and lock all resources before windows really starts. That is the only way, besides a reformat to change the MFT into a single segment. I second that I would love this tool to do the MFT...

 

The other would be to extend the ability to move large files to also include entire directories to the end of the disk...

For example, the MPQ files for Blizzard's WOW are huge, those get moved...It would also be nice to move things to the end that never change...like my Program Files for Adobe and Corel image products.

[Duplicate File Remover]

For images, I use ThumbsPlus. It also has the ability to do "similar", allowing you to determine similarity percentage. It will create a gallery of the images it determines as similar so you can manually choose to remove. It is a paid product, but worth the price if you are a web developer (as it has the JASC engine built in), or have huge libraries of images (like images on CDs for graphics/web developers)

[Defraggler should use more buffer memory]

Are you talking about the list creation (especially useful for large drives full of small files) or the moving of files. The best way to move files is by cluster, which works for any size files and any type of drive format.

[Run CCleaner before defrag]

I second that...a "silent mode" option could be added to CC then DF could call it using the registry key before performing the defrag. When DF opened, it could turn the option on/off based on the existence of the key (and may be quick check with FileExists()).
