  1. Just a thought, Mr.G, immanuel1789 seems to be italian, and seems that CCleaner looks for the Chrome files in %localappdata%. Perhaps the issue could affect some non-english localized Windows versions? (this could explain why it doesn't surface on your test machines) I wrote some messages on the forum about the different Environment Variables, sometime ago: Forum Link Note: On my Windows XP SP3 (italian localized) typing %localappdata% in Start>Run can't open any folder (file not found) Note2: Actually don't have Google Chrome installed (hating it ), but if you think this could be of any help, i will install, just for test purposes.
  2. Having all those registry backup files spreaded all over in My Documents folder is not that good, IMHO. So i have changed the default path in CCleaner.ini to %Program Files%\CCleaner\Backup. Does work fine, what i miss to make the process 100% automatic is CCleaner automatically creating this Backup folder at the install. Another solution, perhaps more complicate (but also more... elegant ) could be add another option in Advanced, to allow users select a default Backup path. In this way CCleaner itself could delete its own old/unuseful/outdated backups, without any need to delete them manually. What do you think?
  3. My XP Pro system have 768MB RAM as well (512 + 256) System Properties show 768 Everest Ultimate Edition show 767 CCleaner show 767
  4. Still done. But it's just for... internal use
  5. As far i can understand of french language, patrox82 is simply asking to localize Defraggler in other languages.
  6. Can't confirm on XP SP3 + IE7. After the clean the cookies dialog is totally empty here.
  7. From the Beginner's Guide: [...] Registry On your left you have check boxes to select what you would like to clean or not to clean. By default, all are selected. Tip: I recommend having them all checked. [...] Edit - About the Help file, this is my idea: Put somewhere an Help (or '?') menu entry. Clicking it obviously should open the .chm file (if installed, but it is not by default ). If the .chm is not detected, then open a dialog saying about 'The Help file is not installed, would you like download it now?', with a link to the download webpage (or also starting directly the download, this is a developers choice). In this way the CCleaner installer will be kept small as currently is, and only those Users that really need the Help file could easily get it.
  8. As said in the past, in my (not so humble) opinion is worth to consider the opportunity to leave all these entries unchecked by default. In that way hopefully the users will have a look to each entry, and to its meaning, before proceed (eg. Shared DLLs - What is this? )
  9. Done. Here is online my italian translated version: Guida di Recuva Clicking the link 'Scarica il Manuale' on the left side you can download the .chm file. I'll update the translation according to your next update. Obviously, feel free to download/link/publish it wherever you like. Thanks
  10. I would like to translate the Recuva Beginner's Guide in my language, and publish it on my website. Obviously all credits will be given to the Author. Waiting for your permission...
  11. Can't confirm on XP SP3. I have create some empty folders in Program Files (and in some Applications folder as well) assigning then some random names ('Log' and 'Logs' included) and they stay untouched.
  12. Maxthon 2 Browser have a built-in feature for this, called "File Sniffer". Browsing a webpage containing a video an icon show up on the address bar. Click it to get the movie URL, or to download the file using the built-in Download Manager.
  13. It should be coming next month
  14. Indeed the selected entries are underlined, and its backgrounds switched to blue. Clicking away the underline disappears. IMHO this behavior is by design, can't realize how can be considered a "GUI bug".
  15. I create these two missing variables (perhaps others are missing, not sure), as follow: Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > System Variables > New Variable Name: CommonAppData Variable Value: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dati applicazioni Variable Name: LocalAppData Variable Value: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Impostazioni Locali\Dati Applicazioni
  16. Finding hundreds of registry entries, or dozens of empty folders can seem a very impressive job... I have noticed that some cleaners are deleting registry entries that is absolutely unuseful to delete, since they will be immediately recreated. Or at next system restart, or running applications. The same does happens with utilities featured to search and delete empty folders. Most of those empty folders are needed/recreated by their applications.
  17. AFAIK Google Earth is listed in winapp.ini, that currently isn't anymore editable, since have been included in the executable CCleaner.exe some versions ago. You can try to add this entry in winapp2.ini instead NOTE What above worked for me, but is at your own risk, i'm not that skilled on the technical side First perform an analisys only, and check carefully in the log that what will be deleted suit your needs, before to perform the deletion. The Windows Registry is... the Windows Registry. (Start > Run > Regedit) and have a look at the Google Earth entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro. But don't make any change if you are unsure about this! Hope this helps
  18. Short and simple: This is the path used by CCleaner to detect the Google Earth install. This is the path i have found in my Windows Registry:
(sorry, english translation by babelfish) They are so-called environment variables. As an example, %Programfiles% on a Windows localized in Italian correspond to the C:\Programmi position, on a Windows localized in English to C:\Program Files, on a Spanish C:\Archivos de Programas, and so on. Ragion for which when Italian we install a program it goes to locate itself in directory C:\Programmi, even if iit's made in USA, I do not know if I explain myself. Now, for some strange reason, I have found that some environment variables used also (but not only) by CCleaner were not set up on my Windows. And this provoked the lacked cleansing some programs that use these variable ones in the paths of winapp.ini and winapp2.ini.
  20. I'm wondering if this kind of issues can be related to the different Windows localizations, as i mentioned in this thread some time ago: Forum Link Please notice the paths reported by the (italian) OP: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Impostazioni locali\Temp\History\History.IE5\desktop.ini 145 byte C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Impostazioni locali\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\desktop.ini 67 byte I bet that CCleaner is looking for Local Settings, there Sorry, i can't do further investigations since i keep my Internet Cache in a different non-default location.
  21. I keep up my previous suggestion. 'Defrag Drive' instead of 'Defrag' on the first tab could help to understand the difference between defrag drive and defrag files. Leaving it as is, in my opinion most users will press the first available 'Defrag' button when the analysis is complete, by... instinct. Edit: Notice that in previous versions the 'Defrag' buttow was grayed and inactive, forcing the users to take some actions (check or highlight some or all files) before use it. Indecent idea: What about to make 'File List' the first tab, opened by default? Edit 2: Moreover, the 'Pause' and 'Stop' buttons on the main window are meaningless when the File List tab is in foreground, since the active and working 'Pause' and 'Stop' buttons, in this scenario, are the ones on the Defrag Progress dialog box itself.
  22. In my opinion it's not that easy and intuitive to use like the previous versions Unless i'm missing something, to defrag the fragmented files only i need: 1 perform the analysis 2 change tab (or click the 'View files' button) 3 check all the fragmented files 4 select "defrag checked' on the right click menu My suggestion is: add a button to automatically check and defrag all fragmented files only, and change the caption on the 'Defrag' button to 'Defrag Drive', to clarify that it will defrag the whole drive. (what above if possible, of course. Be a wannabe developer using Paint is too much easy, i know )
  23. Again: - To disable remove the checkmark - To delete select and press the 'Delete Entry' button (or use 'Delete Entry' from the right click menu).
  24. The UI (user interface) language is choosen at CCleaner install. However, open CCleaner, select the icon at the bottom in the left side panel (Options, in english), select the first entry at top (Settings, in english) and select English from the first dropdown menu you can see. [OR] Browse to the CCleaner install folder (default C:\Program Files\CCleaner\) and delete any language dll file. File name lang-xxxx.dll, where xxxx are different identifiers for foreign languages. In this way CCleaner wil be forced to use english, that is its only built-in language.
  25. Perhaps MSN save your login data in a cookie? Try to move the related cookies (msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com, login.live, don't know exactly what's the good one) into the "cookies to keep" section.
