  1. Old age doesn't count when it comes to... Well, find out yourself by looking at "Top 10 searches today"
  2. Sorry? It makes changes to... Where? It's indeed a very good piece of software. Has helped me and many others numerous times in troubleshooting hardware problems. It seems that many computers, at least here in Finland, suffer from same problem: Electrity has some interrupts here and there. Motherboard gets power too much ---> RAM chips or hard-drive die second. And then we have this faulty operating computer. With memtest86+, I can find problems with RAM very easily and reliably =).
  3. Spywareblaster acts kind of strange on computers which I have installed it on. After installation, updating and "Enabling All Protection", some pages don't load with Firefox 1.5/2 + Firetune - combination. It just stops loading pages randomly. First thought that was because of Firetune's settings, but then I just tried "Disable All Protection" and yes, it worked after that. This really happens with multiple computers, so I have no idea what's causing it.
  4. Many programs, especially games, try to connect to internet when started. Some programs keep "calling" home even after start. Naturally, if you was playing some kind of network-based games, there will be traffic. On my school's network this icon glows pretty often even when no action is taken. However, I don't think you are directly broadcasted or anything, as I feel there's nothing on your computer which may interest hackers etc. Could be some nasty worm, though.
  5. My guess would be bad RAM, because Blue Screen doesn't show up anymore (or atleast not very often ) if your system hardware isn't damaged. Try using memtest86+ for at least 6 passes. Link provided below: http://www.memtest.org/
  6. At least it doesn't load on my browser. Even root directory is empty: http://www.quickonlinetips.com/
  7. I'm happy with No-Script. It does indeed require some attention whenever you visit a new page, but after some time, I myself has noticed that allowing new, trusted sites goes somewhat automatically. When you have gotten used to it, you really don't want to surf the web without it. You know, this does prevent some nasty javascript related exploits in Firefox =)
  8. Defragmenting hard drive is first step on improving boot-times. Default Windows Defragmenter works well, though you may want to take a look at commercial defragmenters like Diskeeper 2007 or PerfectDisk from Raxco. For removing services: don't alter anything you don't understand. Some services which are "recommended" to be disabled may be needed on your system. Allways think twice before disabling any of the services. I personally recommend TweakGuides Tweaking Companion as for general system optimizing, but use this guide at common sense, because some of these tweaks can mess up your system, regardless of what writer says about how secure is alter some of these settings. There is also program called "Microsoft BootVis", which is listed in TGTC guide. It can improve boot times even dramatically (as happened to my older computer), but Microsoft doesn't support it anymore or give it at Downloads- section, because it may in fact do something which produces programs instability, errors or even blue screen. Errors produce mainly on Hyper-Threading processors, so check out if your processor is HT- enabled before applying this kind of things. When you tweak your system, allways use common sense. If you don't know what something means or what is does, leave it alone!
  9. Well Microsoft doesn't support Windows 2000, Windows XP (the original) or Windows XP SP1 anymore, so maybe that's the reason why they dropped support for 2000 on Defender. Altough, I'd never install it in the first place.
  10. I completely agree with that! Even in-game ads shouldn't make their way to real life. What we got then is nothing, as games still cost as much as before. My point anyway was, that this "there is browser-historysupermanipulating spyadwarevirustrojan" (what was on many websites in small time)- thing was a bit of overreaction.
  11. In fact this was kind of false warning. Program works only when the BF 2142 is on, and even then only gathers information of already existing in-game ads, like from what angle you view them, how often, and such. There is more information: http://nationalcheeseemporium.org/
  12. Sorry for small offtopic. But really, in such a small time, there has been so many bugs/issues. Does newest version have some serious coding problems? As there appears to be some weird things like losing Desktop icons, mouse problems, an so on, after installing and running CCleaner. Some of these even shouldn't be "cleaned" or "fixed" by this software. Haven't had any of these issues yet, but I'm beginning to lose faith on CCleaner. -Spy
  13. C'mon, is this how USA is gonna handle terrorists in the future? Like owning them in space combat games?
  14. No, none of them presents on my computer. Double checked with "Hide extensions for known file types" unticked.
  15. Hi! In issues scan, CCleaner shows many Nero 6 entries which claim "Missing shared DLL" and some other things. Last time I cleaned these, whole install stopped working - even reinstall of Nero didn't completely solve all the issues after that. Now I'm on new Windows install, and these entries showed up again. No need to ask me "Fix" them, just reporting so you guys could check if there's something wrong with CCleaner Issues scan, not Nero this time. I also include link to the picture which reveals more information: http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2003/nerouw7.jpg Sincerely, Spy
  16. I've gotten this problem with broken RAM- sticks. Back then it even said that one part of system files/other, kind of large files, were completely inaccesible by Windows Defragmenter. If anything else can't help, I recommend stress testing computer component by component to find possible problems with hardware.
  17. I'd advice against deleting that entry - I have ignored it since version 2005. Deleting it may lead to unstable F-Secure product operation, as happened to me way back. As weird it sounds, when it becomes unstable, it actually creates the entry again. Dunno why's that Wait until you get direct answer from F-Secure though. Best to play it safe Edit: Oops, I understood this whole case wrong, as I first readed that question was is it safe to delete that entry. Sorry.
  18. Without more extensions, simply press Ctrl + F It then gives you a simple toolbar where is everything you need.
  19. Sorry for double post, but I asked for advice at AA's own forum. These files should't really be here... Could it be like that Spybot's Immunize function locks down the files, and when installer notices this, it installs it's own files at root directory? Or something But at this point, I see that something in my system is messed up, though I haven't noticed any other problems like this. Edit: Seems like the "snowball" effect caught my computer - for some reason the errors just keep getting bigger from time to time. Going to format and reinstall later, thanks for that .dll info though
  20. Thanks for the info, now I know that installer wasn't broken
  21. Hi! I have, again, problems with my computer. After installation of America's Army, few .dll files appeared on C:\ root directory. There is the list: atl71.dll (ATL Module for Windows (Unicode)) mfc71.dll (MFCDLL Shared Library - Retail Version) mfc71u.dll (MFCDLL Shared Library - Retail Version) msvcp71.dll (Microsoft ? C++ Runtime Library) msvcr71.dll (Microsoft ? C Runtime Library) Atleast they give some direction what files are supposed to be used for. The problem is that these files are surely in completely wrong place. And why these files chanced directory/appeared mystically after installation of America's Army game in the first place? And last, where these files belong? Any of your help is much appreciated. (again ) Edit: Uninstallation wiped these files of. Though I'm really interested how these files got to the root directory anyways...
  22. Actually CCleaner cleans only "old" prefetch files, as name of that function says. Cleaning whole folder indeed slowes loading times dramatically after reboot. However, I think that this cleaning is safe for use.
  23. Hello Thanks for advice, as I have got that error several times even with a brand new computer. Don't really know where it comes :/
  24. Remember to uninstall the extension first - as some settings may be left over even after reinstallation of Firefox.
  25. Maybe it's because your current skin installed own icons on your Firefox. If that isn't the case, you may want to have a look at "Per application" settings and tune them for firefox.exe found under Mozilla Firefox installation folder. I consider changing skin though, because such problem doesn't exit atleast on my current skin, StealthOS. This program creates some minor problems with some apps, so I advice to test every new program separately before more use.
