  1. Sounds about as credible as selling water-pistols off as 'ray-guns' doesn't it? No, wait .... where did I read that now?
  2. Darn; thought you were going to say they'd FINALLY released V5 Thanks for the news anyway
  3. There already is ... = set 'Wipe Free Space' plus 'Secure Deletion' = just set 'Secure Deletion'
  4. What, people save things to their desktop? ... sheesh that just ruins the picture
  5. I'm sure if the devs are really bored they could explicitly redraw the control on scan completion (just in case someone has been idly playing with the mouse) but do I think it's worth addressing? .... er, no.

    Firefox 3.6 out

Aye; portable is out too ... http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
  7. Some interesting stuff around this site ... http://visionwidget.com/showcase/product/3...-customize.html
  8. I was hoping maybe it was on a different partition to the system one ... improves the chances a lot!!
  9. I wouldn't worry about the first; it's application-related. You can view the content with this utility ... http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/muicache_view.html The last three look like system entries; without looking further I'd guess at leave alone.
  10. Do you back up the registry beforehand, or use the CCleaner reg back-up when you do this? If not I would support other members here in strongly advising against that practice.
  11. So good Microsoft had to copy it for IE8
  12. I didn't need to reboot, but I did follow the instructions and uninstalled first. I didn't try installing over the top - I think I've had problems with previous updates in doing that.

    Excel

Under the 'Applications' tab you should see any entries for MS Office - uncheck the appropriate ones.
  14. I'm surprised they got it out so quickly though ... think they were feeling the backlash. Old Microsoft joke ... A pilot is flying a small, single-engine, charter plane with a couple of really important executives on board into Seattle airport. There is fog so thick that visibility is 40 feet, and his instruments are out. He circles looking for a landmark and after an hour, he is low on fuel and his passengers are very nervous. At last, through a small opening in the fog he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. Circling, the pilot banks and shouts through his open window: "Hey, where am I?". The solitary office worker replies: "You're in an airplane.". The pilot immediately executes a swift 275 degree turn and executes a perfect blind landing on the airport's runway five miles away. Just as the plane stops, the engines cough and die from lack of fuel. The stunned passengers ask the pilot how he did it. "Elementary," replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100% correct but absolutely useless; therefore, I knew that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is three minutes away on a course of 87 degrees."
  15. Can we please make this post a sticky? It's too good a reference to lose.
  16. +1 Incidentally, for those investigating the PortableApps site, you can still just run one of these apps in isolation; they don't have to be run in the context of the full autorun app. So a PortableApps (e.g. CCleaner) build could actually replace the existing non-U3 portable build to give users both options.
  17. Indeed ... but you can 'include' folders created by a non-supported (or supported) app, which is where (at the risk of going astray again) I was coming from originally.
  18. I'd like to see support for recognised CCleaner applications (Firefox for example) that are deployed in portable mode. This might involve having an 'Add Program' button, with the ability to pick from a drop-down supported CCleaner applications that have a portable mode and then for the user to supply the installation path. An alternative could be for CCleaner to provide an on-demand scan to browse the system for such applications. Obviously I can add custom folders, but with apps like a browser it would be easier and more convenient to supply an application path and let CCleaner work out the rest. Thoughts?
  19. I think regardless of opinions on application design, we're all pretty much agreed that deleting empty folders is not good default behaviour for CCleaner!
  20. Wow ... must have been some bribe Not a great showing for Avira this time, following the previous year's win.
  21. Adobe panned for the manual uninstall route though .. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/20/cr...shockwave_bugs/
