  1. kept this one quiet for 2 years , Microsoft don't even know how to use their own program , since they are paying someone to write smart spam filters.

however if you try the following with outlook express , spam on your PC should be non existent because you are basically telling the mailman (Internet provider) not to deliver junk mail.

    1. select Tools > Message rules > Mail

    2. click New

    3. check the box - Where the From line contains people

    4. Check the box - Do not download it from the server.

    5. click on contains people

    6. address Book

    7. then add as required

    8. click OK

    9. click options

    10. apply rule if message does not contain the people below

    11. message matches any one of the people below

    12. click OK

    13. click OK again

    14. click OK

    15. click Apply Now

    16. Apply to Folder (make sure Inbox selected)

    17. click apply now

    18. click OK

    19. click Close

    20. If you have just the one rule click Ok

    21. Otherwise click Move Up to make the rule the first to be executed .

    22. click Ok

The above rule will only download emails from the server if the email address is in the rule. All other emails will remain on the server .

which simply means you would have to progressively add addresses to your rule in the future by doing the above steps missing out steps 2 to 4 and 9 to 14.

This will give you the ability to ?report as spam? to your internet provider using web mail and delete them on the server (not on your PC since they were never downloaded in the first place).

If you want to go back to how it was with an inbox full of spam, simply remove the rule

  2. Copy that exactly as it is into Notepad (not Wordpad) and make sure when you save it you change the "Save as type" dropdown box to 'All Files' and in the file name box save it as whatevername.bat (change 'whatevername' to your choice of file name).

If you have saved it correctly the icon for the file will be a little window with a cog in it instead of the normal notepad icon. It doesn't do anything to the registry, it's perfectly safe. All it does is tell Windows to start Firefox, wait for Firefox to close, then run CCleaner (you won't see CCleaner open, it will run in the background. You can check it has run by waiting a minute for it to run then open it normally and analyse and see if it has cleaned internet files)

excellent suggestion . I do both , that is clear private data on firefox and run CCleaner on close . however if you save your whatevername.bat to c:\ instead of the desktop. you can then create a shortcut on the desktop to this the batchfile which will give you the ability to change the icon to your liking and run minimized (using properties option for your shortcut)

  3. Well you will have to remove them yourself. You either want backups or not. If something crashes then do a System Restore, but it won't. ;)

Ok I've just had another look in CCleaner. If you click on Options and Include button you can add your reg files to the list so when it cleans it will delete them.

if you reread my 2nd post I have said I have done this method by including files/folders for removal , but next time you do a registry scan and back this up you would have remove the reference to the files/folders for CCleaner backup in the "include" option until you are satisfied there is no side effect.

  4. If you click on Options and the Advanced button there is a checkbox that says Show prompt to backup registry issues. If you remove the check mark then you won't be prompted any more. ;)

Thanks for your suggestion , however if you read the original post again , I was asking for the option to remove these registry backup files as a checkbox option once satisfied no problems have been encountered . I have done it in the past using custom files/folders but in some cases using this option may require you to keep them or discard them which then requires changing the custom files/folders to suit.

  5. any chance of someone writing some code to add your new options to winApp2.ini instead of editing it manually , ie detects the registry key automatically for the directory files you want to delete. I am a mere novice and know I'm gonna wreck something sooner rather than later . B)

  6. Will there be an option to save settings for cleaning out custom files and folders. My selections are cleared when I turn my computer off then return the next day .

    Awsome program.
