  3. Hello all. I have a pc with windows XP. I have had three different answers to a question I posted on another site and I am really none the wiser.

    The post was as follows.

Should I during the daytime (A) leave my PC switched on?

    (B) Switch it off when not in use?

    © SWitch it to Hibernate?

The first answer to (A) I received said no switch off. This saves electricity. Another said leave it on.

The first answer to © Said don't leave it on Hibernate as it confuses the system. Someone else said yes it was ok.

Not being a PC techie any sensible answers would really be appreciated.

    Thank you

  4. My PC now keeps freezing recovers then messages are sent to ATI a while later is does it again and so on. Would any kind soul suggest a cure.

    Hijacki log attached.

    Many thanks

  6. after start up I suddenly am recieving the following warning message.

    C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.14322\mscorwks.dll cannot be opened.

I would appreciate any info as to what it is and how \i can eliminate it.

    Thank you

  7. I checked the Wanaddo home page with IE6 without any problem but based on its design, I'm guessing that you are running a pop-up blocker.  Did you install the Windows XP SP2 update?  If so, check the pop-up blocker settings.

Alternatively, you may have a bad/interrupted download of the page cached.  Click Refresh.  If it changes, check that your IE settings are Tools > Internet Options > General > Settings > Check for newer versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page

Hi Thanks for the info. Tried your suggestions still no luck. I'ts driving me barmey.

    Rgds

  8. I have sudenly discovered on my IE 6 that if I look at a page for example the Wanaddo home page I have bits of the picture missing with parts of the "page cannot be displayed message" in places where text or pix should be. Yet if I use mozilla fire fox I do not have problems!

    I would appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks

  10. Then try http://www.ati.com/support then click Knowledge Base.

That links ok. It says might need new drivers for the "chipset" I am not sure how to proceed. Here is info from my system info section.

  11. Let it send the crash data to ATI or Microsoft if it that's what it's trying to do. Of course it can also be related to something else, e.g.; a faulty display card, not compatible with some installed running software or game, etc.

The solution "may" already be available in:

    ATI Support->Knowledge Base->Troubleshooter

At the bottom of that page you also create a problem report via a downloadable utility.

Thanks for the reply but the ati link does not seem to work. Regards from the UK

  12. Without the ATI drivers installed the display will default to either 640x480 or 800x600.

My picture is still freezing at odd times but a device which calls itself ati resetting system comes into operation and un freezes it an creates a report to send to ATI.

  13. Not silly at all!

Windows will use a generic display driver until you install the new one, and it will be slow compared to the one from ATI, I don't recommend uninstalling the old version until the new version is fully downloaded.

Do not uninstall and install display drivers in Safe Mode!

I don't remember the exact wording, etc., however from what I think I remember it can cause some sort of corruption.

Hi. Did the reinstall as you instructed so far so good no nasty error messages. Although I did get a bit scared when I saw the size of the images after uninstalling the drivers I thought "what have I done"!!

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards

  14. 1. Visit http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

    2. Click your operating system, then RADEON, then click Catalyst 5.10 Windows ?? - Driver Download. The ?? is just there since I don't know what your OS is.

    3. Make sure you don't download the drivers that require Microsoft .NET because the configuration GUI is extemely slow in that build, instead download the standard installer which is  Catalyst Component "With Control Panel" it's the download that's smaller in size.

Note: ATI has changed their way of allowing downloads "Anti leeching" therefore download managers may not work, and any ad filtering software may not allow you to download the file, use a direct connection via your web browser.

    4. Once the download completes you need to uninstall via the Control Panel Add/Remove (Win9x), Add or Remove (WinXP) the currently installed ATI drivers which are: ATI Control Panel and ATI Display Driver, this is necessary so you don't have mixed versions of drivers. Only reboot after you've uninstall all components this will save you from multiple reboots.

    5. Once the system restarts install the download package, and reboot when it tells you to.

Thanks but silly question. Being that I am uninstalling/ installing a display driver etc will I not lose any picture to my monitor? Did say it was a silly question" And is this all done in safe mode? ps my system XP Home.

    Regards
