  1. Hi tachy: Go to Option | Settings | CCleaner Home Screen and choose "Custom Clean" (not "Health Check") if you want to start at the Custom Clean interface when you launch CCleaner. ------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2604 * Firefox v110.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2301.6-1.1.200000.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.23.241-1.0.1927 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.09.10300
  2. Hi Rothirsch: I haven't done extensive testing but I don't really care as long as Custom Clean and the registry cleaner work correctly in CCleaner Free Portable . If you download and unzip a fresh copy of ccsetup609.zip from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds then the only two files in the \x64 subfolder (highlighted in red in the image below) are CCleanerBugReport.exe and CCleanerDU.dll. CCleanerBugReport.exe is part of a new reporting tool that collects and sends telemetry data back to Piriform for analysis (this reporting tool was added to CCleaner v6.04 but never documented in the release notes <here> - see nukecad's 23-Sep-2022 post in C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleanerBugReport.exe as Part of v6.04 Pro), and I believe CCleanerDU.dll is part of the Piriform Driver Updater, so if you delete that \x64 subfolder folder I assume those two features would not function correctly. If you only keep ccleaner.ini, portable.dat, CCleaner64.exe and License.txt then your CCleaner interface will default to English, so if you use German or another non-English language you would have to keep the \lang subfolder (highlighted in green in the image below) as well. ------------ Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2604 * Firefox v110.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2301.6-1.1.200000.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.22.236-1.0.1915 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.09.10300
  3. I've been using CCleaner for almost two decades and I personally don't trust any feature in CCleaner these days except Custom Clean. Newer features that Avast / Piriform have added in recent years like Software Updater, Driver Updater, Health Check, Performance Optimizer, etc. are too buggy to be used safely, so I switched to CCleaner Free Portable a few years ago. When a new version of CCleaner is released I delete everything in my CCleaner folder except the configuration file (ccleaner.ini) and only keep three files from the new unzipped ccsetup6xx.zip file - the main CCleaner64.exe executable (since I have a 64-bit OS), portable.dat, and License.txt (optional). ------------ Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2604 * Firefox v110.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2301.6-1.1.200000.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.22.236-1.0.1915 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.09.10300
  4. Hi Rothirsch: No, I think it's a CCleaner bug that has to be fixed by Avast / Piriform, so reinstalling CCleaner Portable won't fix the problem. You might also notice that the size of many of your installed programs is missing in CCleaner at Tools | Uninstall, especially for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store - see my 25-Jan-2023 post in lebsman340's Tools-Uninstall List Not Showing Size of Installed Program For Many Programs. Piriform employee johnccleaner posted <here> on 13-Sep-2022 in lebsman340's thread that they would notify the CCleaner developers about these missing program sizes but they never posted back with a status update to tell us if or when this would fixed. ------------ Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2604 * Firefox v110.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2301.6-1.1.200000.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.22.236-1.0.1915 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.09.10300
  5. Hi Rothirsch: I reported a similar problem in my 24-Jan-2023 thread CCleaner v6.07 - Incorrect Install Dates at Tools | Uninstall. Forum Moderator Andavari posted <here> that these incorrect software installation dates in CCleaner are "a very old bug going back many years". ------------ Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2604 * Firefox v110.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2301.6-1.1.200000.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.22.236-1.0.1915 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.09.10300
  6. Hi lebsman340: I see the same thing in the current CCleaner v6.07 at Tools | Uninstall. Please see the images I posted in my 23-Jan-2023 topic CCleaner v6.07 - Incorrect Install Dates at Tools | Uninstall that show that the Size column of the majority of programs (including 7-Zip) are blank. Of my ~ 95 programs listed at Tools | Uninstall less than 15 have a Size listed. However, the majority of my 48 installed programs at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features have a Size listed, including my current 7-Zip v22.01. Part of the discrepancy in the number of installed programs is likely due to the fact that CCleaner's Tools | Uninstall also lists my ~ 45 Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps listed at Settings | Apps | Apps and Features (e.g., Calculator, Weather, Feedback Hub, etc.) that are available from the Microsoft Store, but that shouldn't really matter. The "Windows Apps" tab of my Revo Uninstaller Free utility lists the Size of all these UWP apps. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2486 * Firefox v109.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.20.230-1.0.1868 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 * Revo Uninstaller Free Portable v2.4.2 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  7. My CCleaner Free Portable v6.07 uninstall tool at Tools | Uninstall seems to have incorrect Install Dates for several programs. For example, CCleaner correctly shows that Belarc Advisor Free v12.0.0 (rel. 11-Nov-2022) was updated from v11.5.0.1 to v12.0.0.0 on my machine on 14-Nov-2022, but: 7-Zip was updated from v22.00 to v22.01 (rel. 15-Jul-2022) on 16-Jul-2022, but the Install Date in CCleaner is 10-Nov-2022. Intel Driver & Support Assistant was updated from v22.7.44.6 to v22.8.50.7 (rel. 15-Dec-2022) on 17-Dec-2022, but the Install Date in CCleaner is 12-Jan-2023 (Note: the date of 12-Jan-2023 is the same date my Jan 2022 Patch Tuesday updates were installed by Windows Update on my Win 10 Pro v22H2 OS). When I go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features the Installed On dates for my current Belarc Advisor Free v12.0.0 (14-Nov-2022), 7-Zip v22.01 (16-Jul-2022) and Intel Driver & Support Assistant v22.8.50.7 (17-Dec-2022) are all correct. I don't use CCleaner to uninstall programs and rarely go to Tools | Uninstall so I'm not sure if this glitch was present in earlier versions of CCleaner v6.x. However, I did find several topics for older versions of CCleaner where this same problem was reported - see jdranchman's 14-May-2012 Most Install Dates in Uninstall Tab Just Wrong for one example. Does anyone know where CCleaner finds the Install Dates for programs (e.g., a registry entry for the last run date or .dll/.exe file property)? ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2486 * Firefox v109.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.20.230-1.0.1868 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  8. I use CCleaner Free Portable and never use the Health Check feature (only Custom Clean), so could someone confirm if the following paragraph in the support article I’m Using Health Check. Can I Customize What Is Being Cleaned? is still correct: I know that Health Check always uses the "recommended" (default) settings of Custom Clean and that any changes you make in Custom Clean do not affect what items are cleaned by Health Check (see the support article Will Changes I Make in Custom Clean be Stored if I Use Health Check Later?), but does the quote above mean that that if you change the basic customization options for web browser and system data cleaning in Health Check (e.g., if you disable cookie cleaning in the Privacy tab of Health Check) that Health Check will just revert back to its default settings the next time you run it? ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2486 * Firefox v109.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.20-230-1.0.1868 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  9. Hi Novice55: See Piriform employee Laurence CCleaner's 18-Jan-2023 post in Wisewiz's CCleaner Keeps Throwing "Debugger" Subkeys Into the Registry, which states: That seems to confirm your 10-Jan-2021 suggestion <above> that the problem is likely caused by Performance Optimizer and that you might be able to wake affected programs on the "Sleeping Program" tab of Performance Optimizer . However, the 12-May-2022 CCleaner blog entry Our CCleaner 6 app is out now with a new, patented Performance Optimizer and improved Software Updater states in part that: This "smart sleeping" of applications by Performance Optimizer doesn't appear to be working as expected, and it would be helpful if someone from Piriform / Avast could confirm that they are aware of the problem and are working on a bug fix. Performance Optimizer should not prevent apps like Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 from launching when the are needed by the user, and expecting users to go the Sleeping Programs tab and manually waking up "sleeping" programs is not a permanent solution. ________________________________________________ I should also note that Win 10 / Win 11 is already smart enough to automatically suspend low-priority UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps and free up CPU and RAM to improve system performance. My CCleaner Free Portable app does not include Performance Optimizer, and my Win 10 Pro v22H2 Task Manager marks suspended processes with a green leaf icon. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2486 * Firefox v109.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.20-230-1.0.1868 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * MS Office Home and Business 2019 Click-to-Run (Version 2212 / Build 15928.20216) * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  10. Hi Wisewiz: Please see the suggestion Novice55 posted today (10-Jan-2023) in their 03-Jan-2023 thread Can't Open Microsoft Programs After Running CCleaner which requires the user to choose the Sleeping Programs tab of Performance Optimizer and click Wake Up for the affected programs that will not launch while CCleaner Pro is installed. That workaround was proposed by CCleaner Customer Support. I use CCleaner Free Portable v6.07 so I know nothing about Performance Optimizer, but is it possible that Performance Optimizer is adding these "debugger" subkeys in the registry when it places a program to sleep? ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * MS Office Home and Business 2019 Click-to-Run (Version 2211 / Build 15831.20208) * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  11. Please note that Novice55 posted a possible workaround today (10-Jan-2023) in their 03-Jan-2023 thread Can't Open Microsoft Programs After Running CCleaner that was suggested by CCleaner Customer Support. I can't confirm that choosing the Sleeping Programs tab of Performance Optimizer and clicking Wake Up for the affected programs would fix the problem since I use CCleaner Free Portable v6.07 and presume that my MS Office Home & Business 2019 C2R programs are launching correctly because my edition of CCleaner does not include the Performance Optimizer feature. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * MS Office Home and Business 2019 Click-to-Run (Version 2211 / Build 15831.20208) * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  12. Further to my 06-Jan-2023 post, affected users might also want to monitor Wisewiz's 08-Jan-2023 topic CCleaner Keeps Throwing "Debugger" Subkeys Into the Registry about how CCleaner added one of these "debugger" subkeys in their registry that prevented them from running their Macrium Reflect imaging software. Once the registry entry was deleted their Macrium Reflect software ran correctly again. Is anyone from Piriform / Avast following up on this? Should affected users be contacting the support team at support@ccleaner.com and submitting logs collected while running CCleaner in debug mode, or does the new reporting tool that was added to CCleaner v6.04 in Sept 2022 (see xClean's C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleanerBugReport.exe as Part of v6.04 Pro) automatically collect the required logs now? I imagine that most users who have managed to trace problems running Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 back to CCleaner and don't have the technical expertise to safely find and remove "debugger" subkeys in their registry have already uninstalled CCleaner and won't want to reinstall it to troubleshoot until Avast / Piriform acknowledges that they are aware of the problem. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * MS Office Home and Business 2019 Click-to-Run (Version 2211 / Build 15831.20208) * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  13. Have any affected users tried disabling CCleaner's Performance Optimizer and re-booting to see if that allows Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 to run normally? The following comment was posted by APMichael on 05-Jan-2022 in Novice55's Can't Open Microsoft Programs After Running CCleaner. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if simply disabling Performance Optimizer is sufficient to remove the Debugger entries in the registry or if the entire CCleaner program has to be installed. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * MS Office Home and Business 2019 Click-to-Run (Version 2211 / Build 15831.20208) * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  14. Hi redwolfe_98: As far as I know, the Sentry Eye technology from BullGuard / Avira that was discussed in AW7's July 2022 thread CCleaner Corrupting Program Files has not been ported into Norton 360. NortonLifeLock also acquired Avast in 2021 (see the MakeUseOf article How Norton's Acquisitions Changed the Antivirus Industry) and I suspect a few features that were added to Norton 360 in recent years like Norton Software Updater and Norton Smart Scan (which is similar to CCleaner's one-click PC Health Check and runs performance and network scans in addition to a quick malware scan) were ported from Avast. I can't see any topics posted in the Norton 360 for Windows forum in the past year from users who reported that they could not run Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 while Norton 360 was installed, but perhaps a conflict is created when Norton 360 users are using CCleaner (an Avast / Piriform product) features like Performance Optimizer and/or PC Health Check at the same time. Kudos to employee MeganCCleaner for stepping in to this thread and offering to help affected users determine why Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 does not function correctly on their systems when CCleaner is installed. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620S v1.21.0
  15. Hi redwolfe98: Thanks, but I already stated in my original post that sfc /scannow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (both run from an elevated command prompt) did not find any problems, and changing the run order of those commands does not change the results. I do not have "ransomware protection" (a.k.a. Controlled Folder Access at Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security | Virus & Threat Protection | Virus & Threat Protection Settings | Manage Settings | Controlled Folder Access | Manage Controlled Folder Access | Ransomware Protection | Controlled Folder Access) enabled in my Windows Security settings. I do not use a third-party app like Startdock's Start11 to tweak my Windows desktop appearance, assuming that's what you meant when you asked if I was using an app to "tweak the windows GUI". As previously noted, my Windows Search errors stopped after I disabled MS Search cleaning in CCleaner (Custom Clean | Applications tab | Windows | MS Search). If the errors reappear while this setting is still disabled then I'll look elsewhere for a cause. The CCleaner v6.06 release notes <here> states in part "Windows Explorer: detects and removes outdated Windows Search data, log files, and shortcuts to recently used files". If someone from Avast / Piriform can't explain exactly what items are cleaned by this enhanced Search cleaning then I'll just move on to another utility for disk cleaning. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  16. Hi Andavari: Thank you for your feedback. I can't say for certain that the changes that Avast / Piriform made to Windows Search cleaning in CCleaner v6.06 were causing my Windows Search errors, but my Windows Search problems seem to have stopped since I disabled the Custom Clean | Applications tab | Windows | MS Search option. It's very frustrating that extra cleaning features added to new CCleaner releases (and possibly optimized for Windows 11 cleaning) are automatically enabled in my Custom Clean settings. I don't allow any "one-size-fits-all" feature like CCleaner's PC Health Check to run on my system and only use Custom Clean because I want to I have complete control over what CCleaner is cleaning. However, that's becoming increasing difficult when Avast / Piriform keeps changing my Custom Clean settings without my knowledge and using vague descriptions in the release notes that don't explain exactly what items / folders will be cleaned - see my Feb 2022 Suggestion RE: New "Windows SubSystems Temp Files" Option in CCleaner v5.90 for one example. I've been a loyal CCleaner user for several years, but I've noticed too many odd glitches and errors on my Win 10 laptop recent years that were eventually traced back to CCleaner. I don't see how I can continue to justify using CCleaner on my system when alternative utilities I've tested recently seem to suit my needs. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  17. The "Other Cleaning Improvements" section of the CCleaner v6.06 release notes <here> states in part "Windows Explorer: detects and removes outdated Windows Search data, log files, and shortcuts to recently used files". Does anyone know exactly what Windows Search data is purged when this new option is enabled, and has any anyone with a Win 10 OS noticed problems with their Windows Search since updating to CCleaner v6.06 or higher? I began seeing errors for RuntimeBroker.exe logged in my Win 10 Reliability Monitor on 19-Dec-2022 and noticed these errors were always related to Windows Search (see details in my 26-Dec-2022 post # 2511707 in the AskWoody thread Upgrade to Build 2364 Caused File Explorer to Be Sluggish and image below). I originally assumed these Windows Search errors were triggered when I updated my Win 10 Pro v22H2 to OS build 19045.2364 during my Dec 2022 Patch Tuesday updates on 19-Dec-2022 but System File Checker (sfc /scannow) and the DISM command Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth did not find any problems with my system files. A few days ago I also realized that 19-Dec-2022 was the day after I ran a Custom Clean with CCleaner Free Portable v6.06. I only use the Custom Clean feature of CCleaner, and after reading the CCleaner v6.06 release notes I confirmed that cleaning of MS Search data had been enabled in my CCleaner settings without my knowledge. Since disabling this CCleaner setting on 24-Dec-2022 and updating to CCleaner v6.07 my RuntimeBroker.exe / Windows Search errors have stopped, although I can't confirm this Windows Search cleaning was the root cause of the errors. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.2364 * Firefox v108.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2211.5-1.1.19900.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.19.229-1.0.1860 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7175 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.07.10191 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620

Dgeesy65 posted in October 2022 in Kamo is Blocking my Outlook 365 that their Outlook 365 runs normally if they turn off their Kamo VPN, and noted that there is a conflict if they try to run Piriform's Kamo VPN and the Norton Secure VPN that is bundled with their Norton 360 antivirus at the same time. 20. Hi aboriqua: I use Firefox as my default browser and posted about this cleaning of bookmark backups on 07-Jun-2022 post in Steve1209's CCleaner 6.00.9727 Keeps Reporting Firefox Cleaning?. I would advise that you prevent CCleaner from cleaning your Firefox bookmark backups unless you are critically low on free disk space. If your Firefox bookmarks are ever corrupted or go missing you can restore them from a recent backup (Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks | Import and Backup | Restore) as described in the Mozilla support article Restore Bookmarks From Backup or Move Them to Another Computer. As nukecad noted, Firefox only keeps ~ 15 of the most recent bookmark backups and regularly purges older backups, and my bookmark backups use less than 15 MB of disk space. Firefox automatically backs up my bookmarks approx. every 3 or 4 days on my system and saves the .jsonlz4 file in my Firefox user profile in the hidden folder C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<firefoxuserprofilename>\bookmarkbackups. I go one step further and manually backup my Firefox bookmarks (Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks | Import and Backup | Backup) about once a week and save them to a removable USB thumb drive just in case some disaster happens and I am unable to restore the most recent bookmark backup stored in my Firefox profile (note: if you are creating important bookmarks that you don't want to lose then a weekly manual backup may not be frequent enough for you). If you are critically low on free disk space and allow Firefox to clean your bookmark backups just be sure you ways have a recent manual backup of your bookmarks safely stored somewhere like a removable USB thumb drive. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2251 * Firefox v107.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.18.226-1.0.1823 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.06.10144 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  21. Hi bgavin: Just an FYI that there is another user reporting in StillTrying's thread CCleaner v6.06.10144 (16 Nov 2022) Will Not Run that they are unable to run CCleaner Portable v6.06 from their hard drive but that it will run from a removable USB thumb drive. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2251 * Firefox v107.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.18.226-1.0.1823 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.06.10144 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  22. Hi TheOwner: Thank you for the warning about this new cleaning rule. I agree that Piriform / Avast should add some context in their release notes wherever they include new cleaning rules with generic names like "Windows Web Cache". See my 25-Feb-2022 Suggestion RE: New "Windows SubSystems Temp Files" Option in CCleaner v5.90 about a similar request I made when cleaning of " Windows SubSystems Temp Files" (which they later renamed to "Network Data Usage" to clarify what was being cleaned by this rule) was added to CCleaner v5.90. After reading your question I updated my CCleaner Free Portable v6.05 to v6.06 and ran a Custom Clean scan (the only scan I allow CCleaner to run) and noticed three new cleaning rules were enabled by default on my Win 10 Pro machine - Windows Web Cache (on the Windows tab under the System section) and OneDrive and Skype (on the Applications tab). As far as I can tell if Windows Web Cache cleaning is enabled then the files marked for cleaning are all located in my hidden C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content folder and only use about 340 KB of disk space (see attach .txt file). I checked in File Explorer and almost all of the files in that directory were created in Oct and Nov of 2022 so there must already be some automated process on my Win 10 machine that cleans up (or replaces) older files in that directory. CCleaner v6_06 Custom Clean New Windows Web Cache Removal Log 23 Nov 2022.txt Vadims Podans' 29-Dec-2016 post in the MS TechNet thread CRL Cache in Win Server states that: Based on what information I've been able to find so far the CryptoAPI performs a similar function in Win 10 and Win 11. I ran a few quick tests and as far as I can tell simply clearing the browser cache in my default Firefox browser doesn't clear those crypto objects in C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content so I'm going to disable Web Cache Cleaning (as well as the new cleaning for OneDrive and Skype apps) for my Custom Clean scans. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2251 * Firefox v107.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.18.226-1.0.1823 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.06.10144 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  23. Hi Dave G: It's difficult to know if running Wise Disk Cleaner had any effect since neither you or Peter N checked to see if MS Office worked correctly after CCleaner was uninstalled (i.e., before running Wise Disk Cleaner). As far as I know AVG doesn't not cause the same issue as Avira and BullGuard, which both include the problematic "Sentry" feature. However, Avira, BullGuard, Avast and AVG have all been acquired by NortonLifeLock in recent years (see the 25-Oct-2022 MakeUseOf article How Norton's Acquisitions Changed the Antivirus Industry) and NortonLifeLock is currently in the process of migrating all BullGuard customers over to Norton GO (a.k.a. Norton 360 for Gamers) per their support article <here>. It might be helpful if you could tell us your Windows operating system [if Win 10 or Win 11 please include the edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version, and OS build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications], the full name and version number of your AVG antivirus, and the full name and version number of your Microsoft Office product shown at File | Office Account. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2251 * Firefox v107.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.17.221-1.0.1806 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Portable v6.05.10110 * Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 Version 2210 Build 15726.20202 Click-to-Run Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  24. Hi Dave G: Do you use an Avira or BullGuard antivirus? If so, then see @nukecad's 11-Sep-2022 post in B Jones' thread File or Directory Corrupt After Running CCleaner for a possible workaround There is a known issue where the "Sentry" feature of these antivirus programs (i.e., the sentryeye.exe engine that is part of the heuristic/behavioural detection) creates a folder at C:\Windows\Temp\sentry_temp . The executables of several programs can be damaged if CCleaner (or any other disk cleaner, like BleachBit, etc.) cleans that C:\Windows\Temp\sentry_temp folder. There is a full discussion about this problem in AW7's 31-Jul-2022 thread CCleaner Corrupting Program Files. If you don't use an Avira or BullGuard antivirus, note that C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Temp is a hidden system folder, so if you want to exclude the cleaning of *.dat files in this folder as CCleaner customer support suggested to Peter N then you will have to unhide it first. Open Files Explorer, click the View tab, and temporarily enable Hidden Items. Then launch CCleaner and you should be able to browse to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Temp and exclude the *.dat files. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2251 * Firefox v107.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.17.221-1.0.1806 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Portable v6.05.10110 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  25. Hi bgavin: If you ever need a previous version of CCleaner Portable just use the direct download link (e.g., https://download.ccleaner.com/portable/ccsetup603.zip for portable build v6.03.10002; https://download.ccleaner.com/portable/ccsetup604.zip for portable build v6.04.10044, etc.). Browse to C:\Program Files\Portable\CCleaner, right click the CCleaner64.exe executable and choose Properties. On the Compatibility tab click the Change Settings For All Users button, and then enable "Run this program as an administrator". Be sure to apply the changes and then see if CCleaner64.exe launches correctly. If that doesn't help you might be interested in reading Pit99's CC 6.x Not Starting on Standard Account about problems running the Slim (installed) edition of CCleaner Free while logged in as a Standard user. Pit99 mentioned the creation of a temporary dynamic link library called gcapi_xxxxxxxxxxxxx.dll that appears for a fraction of a second when you start CCleaner v6.x, and I managed to capture a screenshot of this file when I launched CCleaner Portable v6.05 from my removable USB thumb drive where I keep all my portable apps. I don't know the purpose of this gcapi_xxxxxxxxxxxxxX.dll library but perhaps its brief appearance at launch in your C:\Program Files\Portable\CCleaner folder is part of the problem. Also see @nukecad's workaround <here> in Pit99's thread, who noted that they could only run an installed version of CCleaner Free v6.05 from a Standard user account if they answered "Yes" when prompted to launch CCleaner in final step of the installation wizard (although I have no clue why this would make a difference). Also note that I use the default English interface of CCleaner and only keep the minimal files required to run a Custom Clean in CCleaner (i.e.,I manually delete the \lang, \x64 and \x86 subfolders after ccsetup6xx.zip is unzipped). I doubt the CCleaner developers ever intended for users to run CCleaner Portable from the C:\Program Files\... directory so I wouldn't hold out much hope that they will ever change their v6.x executables just to accommodate this possibility, but Pit99's thread would indicate that there could be some glitch in CCleaner Free v6.x (at least the installed version) when you run it from a user account with Standard permissions. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.2130 * Firefox v106.0.5 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2210.6-1.1.19800.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.17.221-1.0.1806 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7090 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.05.10110 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
