  1. I believe this is correct. Not all temporary files will be erased if they are currently in use by a program. Some programs such as a given antivirus or antimalware program that is running in the background constantly might always have a temporary file that is being accessed. To double check is simple, disable any protection you have (or background programs in use) then run Ccleaner. Likely though these programs using these temp files will simply re-create the temp file as needed. This is not an issue really. You can locate the files yourself by clicking Start > Run > then type %temp% (note it is important to type temp with the %% signs because there are multiple temp folders in windows and %temp% is the only sure folder it is safe to delete anything from) and click OK (This is safe for XP and Vista only). Within the %temp% folder you can delete anything you like, but notice some files will not delete which means they are currently in use. In some circumstances it can be because of malware because malware places files in your temp directory as well. The underlying point however is that there is a file in use within the %temp% directory.
  2. The cookies you seek can be found via C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files By default you cannot see "Temporary Internet Files" within "Local Settings" unless you first enable viewing "Hidden Files" and enable viewing "Hide protected operating system files". To do so you need to open My Computer then click the "Tools" (in Vista hold ALT to see the tools option on the menu bar) then click "Folder Options" and when the new window opens click the "View" tab, then scroll and look for "Hidden Files and folders" and "Hide protected operating system files". You can disable both for the period of time in which you wish to backup your cookies. After that DO NOT mess with any other files as hidden files are hidden to ensure you do not remove them or modify them. Cookies are fine to modify. After you are done re-enable the hidden files and folders and the protected operating system.
  3. The following item is detected as an Unused File Extension in ccleaner for those using Avira Antivir Premium Unused File Extension {80b8c23c-16e0-4cd8-bbc3-cecec9a78b79} HKCR\{80b8c23c-16e0-4cd8-bbc3-cecec9a78b79} When removed it causes no harm whatsoever and Avira simply re-adds the key (if you scan again the same key will be present). Just wanted to let someone know so that it does not cause later confusion. I figured this out by searching the key via google as well as uninstalling Avira to see if the issue persisted. It did not once uninstalled.
  4. I just wanted to add a possible other fix that has worked for me in the past. Having used another disk wiper program and as an accident shutdown during the process my hard drive had little to no space left. To correct the issue I simply used windows search (not 4.0) to use "search by file size" then I typed in first 100,000KB (100MB or greater) then 500,000KB (500MB or greater) because most windows files will never exceed either of those and most users won't have to many files other than possible game files or movies that exceed those amounts. Also click advanced in search using the "search hidden files" The search will display the largest files once completed. Simply sort by file size, find the biggest file with random numbers and letters, look at the directory it is placed in, then delete all like files around that size range within that directory. Should do the trick if else fails.
