  1. Personally, I wouldn't delete any manually or using CCleaner until you see if Windows takes care of it for you. If Vista is like XP, C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download will clean itself automatically 10 days after the update. A few small files (no filename extension but they are actually txt files) may remain but they should just be the licenses for some of the upgrades and add-ons included in the updates.

    CCleaner

You can copy the portable version to the disk without installing. If you don't want to save your settings to the registry, select the "Save all settings to INI file" option.
  3. Is Safari.exe in the location CCleaner checks? C:\Program Files\Safari\Safari.exe

    Office

To preserve the recent files list, deselect Cleaner > Applications > Office Office temporary files normally delete automatically when the application is closed. They should only persist if the application crashes.

    Gas gauge

It doesn't appear to be a consistent rule. On my Toyota, the pump symbol on the gauge has the handle on the right but the filler is on the left.

    CCleaner Portable

Damon asked if CCleaner Portable leaves traces. I was just pointing out that the registry entry is created. It doesn't much matter that Windows creates the entry.
  7. You're right. I just tried it and the toggling cookie problem no longer seems to exist. I had given up on this several versions ago ... I would lose my Google news settings approximately half the time, so I just quit trying.

    CCleaner Portable

I tried both and registry entries are created. Even in the second scenario, where the Save all settings to INI file option was set up beforehand on another PC, a registry entry identifying the path to CCleaner.exe on the USB flash drive was created on the cleaned PC in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache.
  9. You mean you want to remain "logged in" ... you can't be "online" if your PC is turned off. For this forum, the cookie you require is forum.piriform.com but this appears to be one of those cookies that toggles back and forth between [1] and [2]. That is, when you log in, it is <user>@forum.piriform[1].txt but as soon as you do something on the site, it becomes <user>@forum.piriform[2].txt (this is the naming format displayed in the Cookies folder). Cookies from sites such as news.google also do this. CCleaner has always had problems with this type of cookie because it displays the cookie in the format used in the Temporary Internet Files folder (no [number] displayed) so it doesn't seem to protect the cookie after it toggles. Also, some sites will log you out automatically after a set time.
  10. Just move the the new e-mail from the new set of Personal Folders to the other. Then go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files You should find that you have two .pst files listed. Remove the unused one. The file is just deselected (not deleted) so if you pick the wrong one, just add it back and remove the other. You can then delete the unused .pst file.
  11. Disable "Hide protected operating system files".
  12. Check the registry and see if you have HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer ClearRecentDocsOnExit set to 1. This key will clear both the recent document list and the run history. Set to 0 to disable.
  13. In Windows Explorer, do you have "Hide extensions for known file types" enabled? If so, disable it and check the "files" to see their extension. I suspect they have none.

    CCleaner Portable

D'oh! Thanks. I forgot the portable is the same as the installed.
  15. This may already have been asked but ... In CCleaner 2.01.507 Portable, where are the settings being saved? I put it on a USB flash drive and, when I changed the settings, no files on the stick nor the hard drive appear to change. They are obviously being saved somewhere because they were preserved after a reboot.
  16. Periodically check the winapp2.ini thread. Since people have contributed entries for the older Photoshop versions, eventually someone may do so for the new version.
  17. Is this within a session, i.e., you haven't rebooted?
  18. It's possible. You just have to find all the files and registry keys that need to be cleared, and write a winapp2.ini entry. Just follow the directions. You may be able to get a head start by looking at the winapp2.ini entires already developed for older versions of Photoshop.
  19. Use a winapp2.ini ... see here Each application listing is triggered by a specific registry key. Which application is it?

    PC clock

Yes, there is a battery. It should last last 5 - 10 years depending on the type.
  21. If you mean CCleaner backups, they should have been saved as a .reg file, e.g., cc_20070913_2108.reg Just double-click the file and it should give you a message "Are you sure you want to add ... to the registry?" Click Yes.
  22. Options > Advanced > Show prompt to backup registry issues just enables the prompt. When you click Fix selected issues, don't you get the "Do you want to backup changes to the registry? Yes / No / Cancel" prompt?
  23. If you mean the e-mail address autocomplete drop-down list, that is stored in the file C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.NK2 CCleaner does not clean that file unless you are using Custom Files or a winapp2.ini.
  24. The amount of energy needed to break the hydrogen-oxygen bonds in water to release the hydrogen is the same amount of energy you get when you burn the hydrogen (recombine it with oxygen). Because of inefficiencies in running the radio frequency generator, you wind up with a net loss. Using electrolysis to release hydrogen from water and then burning the hydrogen is a common high school chemistry demonstration.
